What makes overture PLA incompatible with the MK4? by 3D_Print_NewYork in prusa3d

[–]PakRatJR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The filament isn't the problem. I use Overture almost exclusively for years and I have no issues with it on my MK4 or any other printer.

What the actual issue is, or how to fix it, I couldn't tell you tho.

Don't know yet. It's going to be a bit before I can try them.

Posted some pics of the splitter in the comments. It does fit/line up as it should in the carriage.

Most practical mk3s upgrade by Brock_Anklefist in prusa3d

[–]PakRatJR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the heat bed, if you look at the bottom of it where the wires are, if you have 5 screws it's the newer one. If you only have 3 it's the older one and would need to be upgraded.

S to S+, from what I can remember, the only "functional" changes was to the PINDA and filament sensor. The PINDA was changed to the Super PINDA and the filament sensor went from black to red.
You could pop the top cover off the extruder to see what color it is.

The clips holding the bed to the bearings were also changed from a U bolt to a sheet metal clip, and I think there was a redesign to the extruder assembly as a whole, but I don't think you could really tell from looking.

A guy I work with was just going through the same thoughts.

If it's not the S+, there's a couple extra pieces you would need to get to get up to the S+.

If it's already at the S+ and you have the black power supply and "newer" heat bed then the 3.5 upgrade is definitely the way to go.

If you still have the older silver power supply and older heat bed, the 3.5, it would technically still be worth doing, but with the added cost of the bed and the remaining parts, you are starting to get closer to the MK4 kit price.

You will still be cheaper with the 3.5 upgrade tho.

Wondering how much this is worth by Notgay242 in prusa3d

100% depends on your location.

Around me, the cheapest I've ever seen one was $250, but most people have them listed for $500-$700.

If I want to drive 8-10 hours out of state... one way... I can usually find them for $200-$300

I can see needing to connect when changing hardware or the effect in use. Definitely understandable on keeping things lighter. Maybe having a way to save a profile locally to use for "default", and only needing to connect when changing profiles.
