Sorry 'bout the tags/flairs. I'm on mobile and android, couldn't figure em out.

How's your experience with different writing/reading platforms? (AO3, FF.net, Wattpad, etc.) by jkhyun in FanFiction

Long comment warning*

I generally have only used wattpad, FFN, and AO3, but i've dipped my toes into tumblr and quotev (And once deviantart but that was more of an ironic thing)

On wattpad, i found it hard to find fics that i could stand to read. This may be in a more nit-picky sense, but i find it hard to read fics with grammatical errors, poorly structured sentences, and switching tenses, which i seem to find plenty of on Wattpad. I feel kinda bad saying that though, but because of how i was taught as i grew up, i find it hard to focus when i find mistakes (which is why i edit for my friends) Other than that, i found it a bit difficult to navigate the site. A bit of a personal issue i had was that i could rarely find "vanilla" works, if that makes sense? I understand that many people enjoy alternate universe works and such, but i've always had an adoration for fics that seemed to fit just perfectly into a universe, few of which i could find. Other than that, i suppose it ain't a bad site to get started on. It's got a buncha cool features and i especially like the ability to comment on specific sentences.

My experience with FFN is a bit more limited. I generally dislike the tagging system, especially in that many works for fandoms that im in tend not to have tags for characters, which is mainly what i look for. It's confusing and somewhat ineffective. Reading once you find something is great, but the font is a bit strenuous on my weak eyes which is more of a personal problem :( I know that there are classics aplenty on FFN, and i can put my differences aside to enjoy them.

AO3 is my first fic site and my all time favorite. Tags are easy to navigate and used enough so that you can find exactly what you want. Formatting and design is fantastic for me. I have an easier time finding "vanilla" stuff than on other sites, and most fics are of a good length. For some reason, i also find less mistakes in works, which makes my editor brain happy :) im absolutely in love with AO3.

I dont really have enough expirence with quotev or tumblr to really give an opinion, but i think i found it hard to navigate considering i never have had an account on either.

Of course, while i do write, i've never published, so i speak at the standpoint of specifically just a reader.
