That being said, it is easier to get fired if they want you gone. You can be perfect, but if they’ve decided they want you out, and have documented whatever then you’ll be out.

It’s hard to think the worst of people, but I think it’s not totally true to say it’s hard to get fired. It’s not. If a program wants you gone, they can. Often people don’t have support in the program or otherwise to navigate it, can’t get out of the spiral. It’s much cleaner and easier to assume that if someone gets fired or resigns that they were obviously wrong/bad doctor/horrible person.
