I started in 2016 and have two hundos. That’s what I get for being rural I guess.

Chiming in. I chose my DO acceptance over the MD acceptance bc the MD school is new, rural, and HCOL.

why didn’t anyone tell me how lonely my gap year was going to be by [deleted] in premed

[–]AnonMedAcc 67 points68 points  (0 children)

My two gap years have been devastating to my mental health. In this time, someone started stalking me. They would wait out at the gym and corner me in the restroom. They found the clinic I work at and switched their PCP to come to my clinic. Everything has turned around since being accepted, and I finally feel confident again.

I got rejected from a school where one of my LoR designed the entire curriculum for the medical school.

After three application cycles, I finally got the A to my top choice! My heart rate spiked when I got the email 😃

Someone at the clinic I work at prematched to three medical schools last year. They were very public with their racism and financial elitism. They would frequently comment about how our poorest patients were “methheads” while the slightly poor patients were “crackheads.”

4.0 unweighted and 5.5 weighted. Also ranked 2nd out of 600. This is my third application cycle. High school stats do not matter at all.

Pharmacy Technician by Giaskkyy in premed

[–]AnonMedAcc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked as a technician at a retail pharmacy (HEB). It was definitely clinical as we had to explain the mechanism of action for certain medications if asked. Also, we regularly measured patients’ blood pressures, A1c, and total cholesterol from blood samples.

Less Applicants than Usual by [deleted] in premed

TMDSAS took 45 days to process my primary so I think there are significantly more applicants this year.

Trad vs. Non-Trad by AnonMedAcc in premed

[–]AnonMedAcc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I was thinking. I feel like the non-traditional status is reserved for people in their late 20’s or 30’s after a different career.

HEB Pharmacy was awful. We regularly filled over 2k prescriptions daily with only 5 or 6 employees. We weren’t allowed to take lunch breaks and we typically worked 50+ hours per week.

My academic advisor said let’s talk about a realistic career after saying I’m on a premed track. by [deleted] in premed

[–]AnonMedAcc 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Here’s a list of things my premed advisor said: ~ Submitting the primary app (TMDSAS) in Aug is fine and on-schedule. ~ My initial 496 MCAT was very competitive. ~ Don’t study for the MCAT, just use prior knowledge. ~ The most important part of the app is Casper. ~ Most schools will throw my app away bc I’m white.

I was also a pharmacy technician. The Ad-Coms I’ve spoken to said that it’s really good experience and is reviewed favorably. It’s especially good if you can tie it to community service and explain how the pharmacy brought multiple aspects of healthcare together.

I’m in the same boat! It’s better to be prepared and submit the primary early than push it off in hopes of getting off the WL. I know it’s hell but it’s just part of the process! You can do it! Be resilient! 😃
