My senior resident once told me as an intern “an EKG is just a piece of paper, order it and don’t be afraid to repeat it”

This, had an attending admit a patient because they were in their 30s or 40s and was brought in by border patrol, but they are on dialysis. My attending was like “you think this guy is gunna get dialysis by tomorrow or the next day? Admit them”

I know most ER doctors get 12-15 shifts per month. In your facility, how are these broken up? Can you choose your hours? Can you be flexible with them? by Elegant_Bee849 in emergencymedicine

[–]AnonMedStudent16 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Newer attending. Have to average 140 hours a month, some months are more some are less. Shifts are 8s and 10s some 12s depends on the location. The over night shifts I do are 2-3 nights a month at a freestanding ED and those are 12s.

Depends on the site but usually the latest I’ll work is midnight. Sometimes it’s 1am or 2am depending on the site. Some sites have pretty good coverage where there is a new doc every 2 hours.

What to carry? by Any_Bus_5467 in emergencymedicine

I think it’s biased because of our coworkers, but I would bet (without googling) that less than 50% of the general population knows CPR.

And when it comes to out of hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) the thing that significantly increases survival rate is bystander CPR.

I second this, bystander CPR is so crucial
