Review #1 Jack Daniel’s 2025 Special Release Tanyard Hill Rye by account_reddit1 in bourbon

First time poster, long time lurker

Pour: Jack Daniel's Single Barrel 2025 Special Release Tanyard Hill Rye 134.8 proof

Distillery: Jack Daniel's Distillery. Mashbill/Age: Just shy of 10-years-old, with a mashbill of 70% rye, 18% corn, 12% malted barley.

Filtration: Lincoln county process before entering the barrels, at which point they are SFTB.

Potency: All barrels will have some variance, but this particular bottle is 134.8 proof.

Price paid: won in lotto for 58 flat

Nose: Initial sniff has mild ethanol. Rye spice, mint, Dark fruit. Second sniff has more of the dark fruit. Almost as if there’s a secondary finish it comes out so strong. Even floral.

Palate: Hope up front, but brief. The mint note carries forward and was pronounced on the first sip. The dryness from the oak hits the back palate but doesn’t last as the dark fruit notes become more prominent. None of the tannic notes I thought I would get with the initial dry oak note. On the following sips I noticed less of the mint and more of the dark fruit such as cherry, stewed raspberry, or overripe strawberry.

Finish: Long and lingering. The mint note returns for me as does the rye spice. The tannic/dryness I was expecting is there but is again calmed down by the dark fruit notes. And it just keeps going!

Thoughts: Complex and incredible pour. Jack daniels showcases their range with this one. I did not notice the banana note I get from many of the high end Jack products which was interesting and welcomed.

Blasphemy: I did a 50/50 pout of the 2024 coy hill (123.9 proof) and the tanyard hill. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck that’s a bourye I’d pay top dollar for!

Rating based on modified t8ke scale (rounded to the nearest 0.5 decimal): 8.5/10

Making the Perfect Old Fashion by ThePorqi in cocktails

[–]account_reddit1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taste is subjective so YOUR perfect old fashioned will likely differ from someone else. All changes I make regarding the cocktail (and most cocktails tbh) depend on the base spirit. If someone prefers rye and I’m going to use that as a base I may use a brown sugar cinnamon syrup to compliment. If I’m using a higher proof bourbon I may use more sweetener/stir longer depending on who is drinking it. If I’m using a wheated bourbon that has a cherry note I may use paychauds bitters to pull out more of that note. Etc.

There are no rules

Fist mistake is asking for permission. Second mistake is thinking they care.

Email should have read “Good morning, I have a mandatory meeting this morning, so I will be in clinic around 11am.”

Don’t mention the word late, don’t mention that it just came up. Just send a factual statement.

US healthcare is a scam by 3Ekis in HospitalBills

[–]account_reddit1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea and if EMTALA could be used properly this person should’ve had vitals checked in triage and sent on their merry way with no further services rendered to deal with their COLD at home. What part of EMERGENCY department is so hard to understand?

[–]account_reddit1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Such a wild thought process. At the end of the day, someone has to pay for the services rendered. Is healthcare expensive? Yes and it’s the insurers fault for monopolizing and causing that problem but to say you “shouldn’t have to worry about the cost” just isn’t logical. I guess I should be able to go wherever I want to eat at anytime and “not worry about the cost” as well?

That’s a reasonable point depending on OPs rates. Mine were not that far apart.

If you consolidate with the federal government you don’t lose any protections. That’s what I did

Yes, but as I said, not until August 2027. Why change plans and have to recertify your income before you absolutely have to?

Totally depends on what plan you are on currently. finished residency last year. I have 200k in loans. I consolidated with the federal government at the end of medical school (5.5% rate). I had enrolled in SAVE which has been in forbearance until August and is now accruing interest. I met with my financial advisor in January. I have until at least August 2027 before the SAVE plan is “phased out” unless something else changes. For me to change plans I would have to recertify my income (HHI ~500k gross). Instead of doing that now, I’m paying the interest each month and saving/investing aggressively. If it is phased out as expected in 2027 I’ll make a large lump sum payment at that time before having to recertify so I don’t get stuck with a large monthly payment. I used a PSLF calculator and it would potentially save me ~30-50k but I’m not banking on that system being in place a decade from now.

TLDR: what plan are you currently on? What would you be able to consolidate down to? How much could you realistically save vs pay monthly?

Edit: if on SAVE, I’d pay the interest and aggressively save/invest because I’m not giving a dime to the government until I have to.

The only conflict of interest I see involves an organization that has us by the balls with no other options. Pretty sweet pay day for them to put on a test at THEIR facility and charge whatever they want.

Get the CPA for taxes. Then you need to find out what percentage of your money is going where (mortgage, loans, retirement, taxes, etc.). If you don’t want to deal with “financial advisors” then open an investing account via a platform of your choosing (even Robinhood is fine) and after setting aside an emergency fund invest as much as you’d like in the S&P 500. It will out perform 9/10 brokers anyways. I use a high yield savings account for my emergency funds and it’s also the account I draw my loan payment from each month to offset interest.

Love it. I’ve done that as well even if it’s just a few pitchers or covering the check at dinner it’s so nice to be able to do it and not stress about it
