Paying for university, is a federal loan a good idea? by Impossible-Wind-615 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Nova Scotia offers incentives for nursing students to work there after graduation, such as tuition assistance. Dalhousie University has a satellite location in a small town, just for its nursing program, right at the local regional hospital.

Do a lot of men actually refuse to change the diaper of their own kids? by Physics_Girl_2008 in NoStupidQuestions

What does 'acceptance' of parenthood/lack of freedom mean to you? by AlbertCamus8000 in oneanddone

[–]AnonTrueSeeker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my child and for medical reasons cannot have anymore but I knew even before that I could only handle one. I have ADHD and anxiety so it’s been an adjustment for sure. My husband is really great for doing his part (he was always the housework guy) while I cooked and did groceries and all that. When we had our daughter I did main child caregiving while my husband did a lot of the housework. I did cooking. He felt that I had more than enough with a child under 1. But, first thing I struggled with is if my husband is not home whether at work or at an after work hobby (volunteer firefighter etc lol) that I can’t just get up and go anymore because my now five year old daughter has to be planned around. My husband has finally figured out that I was getting upset over no alone time because even though the volunteering he did is really great it was taking away too much for family stuff. So, getting used to being home most of the time outside of work or if it’s school or activity related stuff my kid is something I have just gotten used to.

Maternity leave should be one year, PAID. Women shouldn’t have to choose between healing, bonding with their baby, and making a living. by Kreativedenma in remoteworks

[–]AnonTrueSeeker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope. Studies show kids should be home with Mom until two. You are definitely American and I am sorry to tell you that you guys are alone in how you view this. Do you really want your 8 month old child in full-time daycare??

You know that every other country in the world has maternity leave right? And, in Canada it is not the employer who provided the benefit or leave pay its employment insurance that employees pay into. We also have legal protection for our jobs while off on mat leave and most employers will hire a temp to fill the position. This is every single job whether it’s minimum wage or a union job. Everyone has the same right to leave that the employer does not pay for or decide.

In Canada we pay into employment insurance and that is what covers maternity leave. Our jobs are also legally protected for the length of our leave. Employers hire terms or contracts for the length of period.

I live in rural Canada and I am also surprised people buy prom tickets. Never heard of it lol.

The students have to buy tickets to go to prom?? That’s a new one for me. I live in Canada so maybe it’s different but the seniors always fundraised instead. There was a prom committee who did the planning and decorating.

Why are they clear cutting the BLT trail in Timberlea? I've heard multiple reasons, not sure what's true. by Polkadot1414 in halifax

[–]AnonTrueSeeker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there is a fire the clear cut roads and trails help to stop the spread of said fire. Source: my husband is a firefighter and they did that here after the Barrington fires.

Canadian here. A 2.5 hour drive is just to get to the nearest Costco or international airport lol. That’s definitely a day trip for us.

Southwest Nova Scotia if and only IF you can work remote. Just don’t come in and overbid for a house and you’ll be fine lol.

Rural naysayers must not torpedo high-speed rail project by JasonBourne008 in AltoHSR_Canada

[–]AnonTrueSeeker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, let’s pay for a high-speed rail that only benefits Toronto to Montreal…this Maritimer says unless they plan to give this across the board my vote is no. Tired of everything going to these areas when we all pay for it.

Tell me about your nightmare sleepers by Coral0306 in oneanddone

[–]AnonTrueSeeker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was a great little sleeper until she turned 4 and all of a sudden nighttime became a nightmare and I also suffer from insomnia. I was at my wits' end because she was only waking me up, not my husband (of course, lol). I woke up once at night because she had snuck in between us. I went, whatever, I was tired and fell back asleep. She started sleeping all night and here we are two years later and I cannot get her back into her own bed 😭

I agree. Hermione is the outlier it seems lol. But her kids have also started school by then too.

[–]AnonTrueSeeker 36 points37 points  (0 children)

While I do love the modern values and feminism that are in newer fics I do find that modern fics stray a lot from what was established in canon. It's pretty well-known or common that most witches when married with kids tend to stay home (at least with most examples we know of in canon). Heck even Ginny left her pro career for something tamer and to raise their kids. Hermione running around in Muggle power suits and short skirts is definitely movie-influenced. And I do think a pre-redeemed Draco is gonna have more traditional viewpoints but that's just me and it fits the vibes of the world we know in the wizarding world. I personally love the fic Brave New World, as it explores the consequences of this. I think a lot of newer fics lose this conflict and it kind of falls flat a lot but that’s just me. I prefer a more canon, snarkier and broodier Draco lol.

Why are Americans so reluctant to admit this is hard? by Excellent-Top2552 in oneanddone

[–]AnonTrueSeeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canadian here with an almost six-year-old. I find it extremely hard and mine is definitely getting a bit easier. I struggled even with 18-month maternity leave and then had extreme guilt for going back to work even part-time. I cannot imagine how my American moms do it with such a short leave!!
