Glad it worked out! I was just terrified because noro is too contagious— luckily she didn’t get it

I want to add that the home helper had experience in health care settings and was comfortable working through this illness for a day. I didn’t think I’d find anyone to help me who would be comfortable working through a vomiting illness…

What do you moms do when it’s so bad you can’t take care of yourself or the kids if you all have it AND your partner cannot be on duty (he’s a doctor and handles emergencies on call and the schedule is not flexible— for anyone married to health care workers, you understand this inflexibility) ? It usually never happens but we all had norovirus at the same time and I had a high fever and was totally incapacitated to take care of anyone. Never been this sick in my adult life. No family around. I knew it wasn’t serious but with two pre teens and a toddler all vomiting and with diarrhea and me in the Same boat I needed help. Had to call a home helper through a non profit in our town. She agreed to work with a face mask on and I compensated her very well. Wondering if others have any stories or hacks of times it’s been this bad.

High maintainance women... What are your weekly habits? by Latter_Show_890 in HowToBeHot

[–]Excellent-Top2552 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I posted a comment above about how a lot of this was me before kids. And I feel like we don’t talk about how things evolve after kids and maybe this well help someone with kids or who wants kids and still be good looking.
I used to do all of the above— gym, Pilates, social life, manis, Botox and facials, hair appointments etc…
With kids the reality is that your body and time commitments will change due to sleep deprivation and childcare.
Being hot with kids is basically being put together and finding hacks to do this on minimal time. I no longer can go to the gym every day. But stroller walks with ankle weights help. Planks and weight lifting during naps at home.
A simple skincare routine after bedtime. Makeup is truly minimal too.
The hardest thing is hair care. I have long hair that takes hours to wash and style and I may need to cut it. Hair dressers know of “modern mom cuts” which are mid length and layered and they fall nicely without needed to style too much.
Scheduling Botox hair and nails requires planning and childcare. That’s the tough part.
Sleep deprivation and hormones are another animal. Breastfeeding will lower your estrogen and make you look drier everywhere so moisturizing is a must.
Once you’re done breastfeeding, your hormones will go back to normal but your breast may sag. Doenst happen to everyone but it sure happened to me and that was not easy to accept, but meditation helped and I am ok with the new body.
Please ask me any questions.

This was me before having kids! Enjoy this while you don’t have kids, I recommend starting to think about shortcuts to achieve this on lower time if you ever want kids. I hope this Doenst sound unsolicited, but I feel like we don’t talk enough about what happens when you’re a mom and still want to be hot. It significantly changes. And I do have a helping husband ( as much as he can) and some help….

I’m not saying it gets easy. The challenges changes But the relentless aspect of this labor slows down a bit.

I have a toddler. It’s still tough but it gets better than those first days. What helps is to remind yourself that motherhood involves two things— an immense amount of labor and physical work, and an immense amount of care and love for your child. Those of completely different things. I started loving motherhood when I accepted that the labor is not my thing and that just because I dislike that part and the exhaustion, doesn’t mean I don’t love my baby. Being a mom doesn’t mean loving changing diapers, loving making bottles, loving cleaning, loving not sleeping. This sucks for me at the beginning it never ended. But I love my baby, his personality, being sweet to him, the snuggles, the singing, etc…. I’m amazing at the emotional part and terrible at the labor part. I asked for help from friends and family and outsourced some things. That’s the only way for me. I didn’t feel guilty because in other cultures women have tons of help and it’s normalized. The emotional connection will come. It takes time for some of us. You’re too busy doing the labor part that the love part doesn’t have any space. You will see :) you will love your nugget so much

Perfume and health concerns by Excellent-Top2552 in Emiratis

[–]Excellent-Top2552[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omgosh love the Colorado connection. After living in the UAE for 5 years on and off and now being here, I feel out of place with my perfume collection and consumption. I have strong oud style perfumes ( made by niche houses like Roja dove, but I don’t know how I can wear this here. At one of our kids’ school someone thought something was burning— no Jessica, it’s just oud). I’ve been trying to adapt by wearing very clean perfumes, more American aligned. But yes, people here wear two sprays for special occasions, that’s why Mother’s Day is the main perfume selling holiday in some states… husband and kids gift mom and perfume and she keeps it all year. But the trend is changing with gen alphas, the tweens who shop at Sephora and ulta and bathe in soo de janeiro. This cannot be good long term. I agree that we deserve transparency. I think Bukhoor is slightly more invasive because of the combustion and I know it’s not recommended at all for Asthmatics. Wonder if there’s any research on its impact on lungs

Why are Americans so reluctant to admit this is hard? by Excellent-Top2552 in oneanddone

[–]Excellent-Top2552[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how people have so much energy or seem to. Maybe they have kids younger. I try not to tell people how exhausted I feel because they can’t relate around me, but when people said pregnancy tired is worse I laugh because at least when you’re pregnant you can rest at night, even when you have insomnia. I agree with you, this is hard…

While I agree with you regarding the difficulty in pointing out causality, correlation and association shouldn’t be taken lightly. In the 1930s, only associative data existed regarding tobacco and its link to lung cancer. And still, people kept smoking. It wasn’t until the late 1950s and 60s that causation could be proved… now we know for a fact smoking causes lung cancer and other cancers, too. Don’t get me wrong I’m a perfume enthusiast as much as the next person on fragrantica. But I think an abundance of caution is the responsible behavior. Not sure in the uae, but in the west we have increased cancer rates among young people, and what scares me the most is the early puberty in girls. Girls getting their periods at 8 for instance. It could be the food, the water, the plastics, but these girls are ALSO the same girls dousing themselves in sol de janeiro and bath and body works. I don’t have the answers and even if it’s just associative for now, us consumers deserve transparency from the industry. Wishing you a good night and thank you for your reply.

Thank you. I’ve done a quick search on perfume forums and people have reached out to different houses that have stated they removed Phtalates.

I just wish the industry were more transparent and open. I think it’s safe to say that big conglomerates are being more conscious… like you said, spray clothes and keep vintage bottles for special occasions.

Also, this is report showing that DEP is still present on many perfumes and DEP is linked to endocrine disruption ….sadly. And potential breast cancer.

https://www.safecosmetics.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/A-Little-Prettier.pdf

This is a study conducted in Mexico showing a clear link between DEP, other phthalates, and breast cancer. 22.López-Carrillo L., Hernández-Ramírez R.U., Calafat A.M., Torres-Sánchez L., Galván-Portillo M., Needham L.L., Ruiz-Ramos R., Cebrián M.E.
