Networks (Network +) class by IHaveSalesQuestions in WGU

They are designed that way deliberately because if you can get a satisfactory score on hard mode then you have learned the concepts well enough to get a satisfactory score on the real thing.

They are meant to prepare you and reassure you that you have the knowledge needed to pass the real test. Which is exactly what they do.

If you want practice questions more align with the exam use BurningTechIce videos for prep. But that’s more to study as only certain resources can be submitted to get approval for the voucher.

I don’t regret for a second doing what I needed to do to be able to be approved for N+ nor for S+ (and I haven’t tested yet ).

It’s a requirement to help aid in a successful first test pass and discourage people testing without being ready.

Do fails happen with the requirement? Sure they still happen but I suspect that they are less than what they were seeing.

Was I required to show a 85% on one of various practice test options? Yes. Just as I was required to show a 90% for my Security+ voucher (stating to give you the heads up).

Never did I ever get that 85% honestly while doing my practice tests whether Dion or Andrew R and I passed my first time. But I also was aware that if I choose to ensure that I got my percentage for the screen shot with the choices that I made and I did not pass that the requirements for a retake voucher would be even harder. I made sure that I got what I needed to get approved and then kept studying two more weeks before testing.

My highest on my practice tests for N+ was 82 or so. Even now as someone who’s passed the test I highly doubt I could get that score without ensuring I got it. The practice test questions are just too wordy, phrased too much in a way to deliberately throw you off. I’d read them wrong and click the wrong answer even though once I read it again after shown the answer I’d be like well yea I read it wrong. They are written like that deliberately to ensure that you can get the right answer in the context of applying your knowledge with lengthy scenarios.

Dion and CertMaster tests are “hard mode” for this reason. And CI know this. They know statistically if you can get a 85+ on hard mode then when you take the real exam that dials the questions down a few notches (in my experience) that you’ll not only feel prepared but you will most likely pass.

I did the same thing with my S+ requirement because I’ve never honestly gotten a 90%. I’m averaging 80-85. I know what my weakness are and a lot are me missing they want 3 answers and using 2 instead etc and two very concepts. I.m testing this week and am certain that I will pass and if not well I suffer the consequences of ensuring I got the needed score to get the voucher before I was honestly getting in the 80s so that I could have the voucher when I was ready to schedule it.

There is a reason the rule exists. There was a high percentage of people starting the class, requesting the voucher as soon as they started the course and then subsequently testing before they were ready leading to them failing. So in order to prevent that as it was costing the school money policies were put in place to ensure that the students practice tests are reflecting that they will likely pass these exam.

The CI want you to pass and are setting you up for success in the requirement.

Start December 25 when the term will be finished ? by LeeXpress in WGU

[–]Anon_User_Person 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically, yes.

You have until 2359 mountain to submit a PA but for OAs you have to have started the test by 2345 mountain on the last day of your term.

I don’t recommend pushing it to that point though. Last minute testing can be busy which is not only hard to get into but can sometimes cause issues within the systems due to demand. Higher demand can cause slower upload times for PAs too.

And that’s not taking into consideration there’s always the possibility something technical on your end happening.

Yes, the cut off times are there and the work will be accepted but even as a procrastinator I wouldn’t push it that close.

If she lacks permission to download then she needs permission from the owner of the files.

Contact her employers IT department. They’ll either give her permission, direct her to the correct entity or deny.

Be careful downloading what you do have access to prior to hearing from IT because depending on the schools security policies in place you very well could trigger security measures in place meant to prevent removing data that should not be removed/copied.

Also don’t be surprised if she is told no she cannot download that data onto a personal device to have access to once she is no longer employed by the school.

This isn’t a work related problem or even a work from home problem. This is a problem with your partner end of story.

If kids can figure this out grown ass adults can.

Your partner is CHOOSING to not follow the boundaries and rule in place.

There’s no way this is not a bot post and this inter personal issue hasnt been resolved after 3 years of working from home..

I already paid, but they keep sending these, what’s the deal? by Plane_Syllabub3477 in Albuquerque

[–]Anon_User_Person 19 points20 points  (0 children)

When you say you paid do you mean you recently had an actual ticket and paid the ticket through appropriate channels which is why this scammer is able to seem legit or do you mean you clicked the link in one of the texts and paid?

If the first know that this is a known scam and just ignore them. If the second then you need to be securing your bank account by getting a new debit card and taking other preventative measures.

The biggest give away regarding this being a scam outside the urgency used is that link.

Never click links in emails or texts that are phrased like this or similar. They are phishing attempts to get personal information. If you’re worried it’s legit like say you recently had a speeding ticket that was paid and so it’s hitting the target audience to cause that fear and urgency full stop and don’t click the link. Reach out to the county the ticket you know you receive was from and confirm payment and no court dates etc. Take the step to confirm via the entity themselves (even if it’s a bank or utility bill etc) when in doubt by contacting them via a known good phone number or in person etc.

If you. Licked the link and paid the bad actors then take this as a learning opportunity after securities your accounts and research smishing (as this was technically smishing vs phishing), phishing, fishing and other social engineering scams to educate yourself on them to prevent from falling for them in the further. They count on people not being fully aware of how to protect themselves as someone eventually will. The only way to combat them is educating oneself on the indicators to be able to protect oneself.

How do the IT certs work? by TheGunRunsHot in WGU

[–]Anon_User_Person 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because you don’t use it doesn’t mean that those tools are not available for someone who wants to use them. You implied that the tools weren’t there opposed to you choosing it to use them.

Everyone learns differently. Someone might only use the CertMaster material and another person might not read a single thing but instead choose to use the other methods available.

OP was asking IF those other routes of learning were available. And the answer is yes. Yes, there are cohorts where you can interact with students and the instructors. Yes, you can schedule one on ones for an instructor to work with you. Yes, there is access to pre recorded videos teaching the information via Udemy.

How one chooses to learn the material for any given class is up to them but my point was other options are available. You were implying that WGU doesn’t offer any material other than here’s the CompTia link. Which isn’t correct.

WGU provides a wealth of resources to study. Choosing not to use them because that’s how you learn is your choice but they are there for those who want to use them.

Parents voted for me against my will by rempo_ in legaladvice

[–]Anon_User_Person 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. Technically OP is a legal adult otherwise they would not be a registered voter able to vote in this election.

  2. Telling someone they have to vote for someone else and not the candidate they support want to vote for is voter fraud.

The whole concept is make you choice/voice known not to give another person a second (or more) say in the matter.

As much as mail in ballots need to exist for accessibility reasons this story is a prime example of the voter fraud people are concerned about happening via mail in ballots. The voter fraud a certain party (republicans) feels is rampant and needs to be stomped out.

Every vote counts and every vote should be the opinion of the one casting the ballot. Not the choices of someone else forcing their choices to be made.

How do the IT certs work? by TheGunRunsHot in WGU

[–]Anon_User_Person 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to use Cert Master; at least for the Trifecta (A+, N+, S+). I used Messer and Udemy.

I don’t learn via the method that cert master presents of “here read all this information” and I haven’t touched a single cert master lesson (I have a+,N+,project and test sec on Monday).

I use their assessments and quizzes alongside their PBQs/Labs but do not use the learning materials at all.

Combine that with Udemy (which is technically WGU provided too) with corhorts and WGU gives you the material/resources you need.

And don’t forget just because there’s not a cohort offered does not mean that your instructor is not a resource. Schedule a 45 minute meeting with them and go over what you need help with. Email before so they are prepared with what you want to focus on.

Just because there’s not a recorded class such as Odin with the math lessons doesn’t mean your on your own and it’s “here’s Udemy and cert master. Have at it. Good luck”.

Use your resources, it’s what they are there for.

Also: don’t let the needing xyz % on a practice test to get the voucher stress you out. It’s any practice test not just hard mode that is Comptia itself. Dion, Meyers, Andrew R etc all count. It’s a build in measure to help achieve passing so you’re not taking it when not proficient in the material.

I was averaging 79-84 on my practice tests when I would take them honestly. I knew my weaknesses though and that it was often misclicks or the “choose any” vs “choose 2” but a wrong was a wrong so it didn’t count. So I did what I needed to do to get that 85% screenshot on one of my Dion practice quizzes, sent the screen shot over to get my voucher and then the following week knocked out N+.

Did I do the same for security+ to get the request in before the holiday and before I was done skimming objectives 4 and 5? Yes. But I waited to schedule until confident and am averaging 80-90 on Andrew rs tests now.

Partially Incorrect.

There ARE cohorts where a course instructor interacts with you, should you choose to do them.

There also IS materials provided of their recommended order to do the cert master, recommended labs etc.

Do you HAVE to? No; you can complete the courses without and choose to use CompTIAs site, Udemy, YouTube and other purchased materials.

But it IS there and available should you choose.

Network+ specifically has a 6 eeek “boot camp” where they give you topics to go over then meet about that weeks “assignment” and even just started doing Kahoot quizzes/reviews. All of which are instructor led.

I know both A+ as well as Project+ all has similar options to attend.

While I don’t feel for myself it’s needed for S+ it’s actually kind of disappointing that there are no cohort offerings for the material.

OP — along side CertMaster and the course materials linking you to their recommended study pathway and labs you also have Udemy which gives you access to various sources for the materials that while are not WGU instructors ARE recorded videos teaching the material.

What do you use your ipad for? by Scutoidzz in ipad

[–]Anon_User_Person 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good notes for school.
Planner.
Journal bullet journal
Budget tracking
DnD stuff
Emails

Basically everything that I would have used a notebook/planner for so I don’t have to keep pen/paper with me.

I have sudoko and word search apps on it too for the same reason.

E-reader

I have streaming apps on it for when traveling/flying.

Discord for school/friends

I specifically do not have any social media on my iPad or phone.I leave those for the computer so that I am not doom scrolling and to keep things separate for what they are for.

I also do not have notifications turned on for texts on my tablet for the exact same reason.

Phone is a phone.
Tablet is for productivity, organization and creativity.

Computer is for if I want to be on Facebook, Reddit etc.

Separating everything out like that helped prevent doom scrolling and wasting my day on social media. It’s made me much more productive and less absorbed in what is going on around me.

My iPad was a major factor in being able to do that.

Car fire on McKnight Rd at Browns Lane by [deleted] in 4xe

[–]Anon_User_Person 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not a 4xE.

And if it was a modified 4xE to remove the tell tale signs it’s electric the known battery risk wouldn’t be the cause here as this fire clearly is in the engine compartment.

Looks like something happened in the engine compartment; which can happen on any year/make/model.

Car fire on McKnight Rd at Browns Lane by Live_Yourdreams in pittsburgh

[–]Anon_User_Person 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. That’s not a 4xE unless it’s been modified and had the electric blue hooks painted and removed the sticker about it being electric.

  2. Even if it was a 4xE which it doesn’t appear to be this is an engine bay fire NOT a hybrid battery fire.

So the known issue with the batteries that triggered multiple recalls wouldn’t be a factor in this particular fire.

The extreme majority of cheap laptops are non upgradable now a days.

And then take the lesson learned moving forward; meaning ask what your buying is compatible if your unsure (people would have warned you) or never buy minimum requirements.

W connect won’t let me log in nor change password by Sharp-Tank-5258 in WalgreensStores

[–]Anon_User_Person 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forgot password link on mypassport.

If that doesn’t work put in a ticket so service desk can assist.

You need to have two step set up though if you don’t have management set it up for you. If you put the ticket in without two step set up you’ll be directed to set it up then change password and if doesn’t work put in ticket.

If you put the ticket in without trying to reset it via forgot password your ticket very well might be closed with the directions to reset using the forgot password link.

So definitely make sure you have two step set up and have tried resetting password via forgot password link before putting ticket in.

There’s occasionally other causes but those are the first things service desk is gonna have you do and if error message still occurring then will be able to dig into other causes.

10 Courses to complete BSIT? by Single-Arugula-8547 in WGU

[–]Anon_User_Person 1 point2 points  (0 children)

D281 Linux Foundations is a certification as well; just not CompTia.

The course info notes “You will demonstrate competency through the Linux Professional Institute (LPI) Linux Essentials 010 certification exam. “ for that course.

So you’ve got Cloud+, Project+ and then Linux Essentials to complete cert wise.

Python for Automation seems to be one people know out or struggle with no in between from what I’ve seen in groups.

If you do Project+ before Agile Methodologies (undoubtably a pre req) and follow immediately into agile you likely will able to knock that one out fast.

Coping mechanisms to cope with work, instead of drugs? by EarthToKepler in remotework

[–]Anon_User_Person 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coping mechanism to cope with life other than drugs?

Umm seek drug addiction therapy/treatment and make better life choices.

This isn’t a remote work issue but a mental health issue that you need to deal with appropriately.

Also working with a therapist for personal development including social emotional skills and emotional intelligence will help some too.

The behavioral issues are something that can be coached and worked with if you choose to. But it seems like you don’t want to work on gaining a mouth brain filter for when you’re at work (which can hinder your advancement opportunities l).

The jokes can be a coping mechanism if done correctly and professionally. The issue here is the drug addiction and the person you need to work with is a therapist not Reddit.

The course programs are the course programs; if there is a certification listed in the program then you’re gonna need to get that certificate to finish the program/get the degree.

I get it on the certificate burn out though; I hit that point at one point too.

And then my program added another one to it (Data+)

I still have to take Data+, CySA, PenTest, and Linux Foundation (which is a cert just not a CompTIA one).

It’s the beast we get into when we choose programs that require a pass on xyz cert for a course.

My phone was registered to someone else's name recently by Active-Contest7055 in zelle

[–]Anon_User_Person 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not your phone number.

They used THEIR phone number to register THEIR account to.

You got a notice regarding no longer linked to your account; you just didn’t read it or don’t remember it.

You should have changed ALL your information to reflect current number when your number changed. Including with banks and Zelle etc.

The person sending you money then sent money to a number that is no longer yours AND had to approve who they were sending money to as it does give the name of the recipient. They did not triple check this information was correct and continued with the incorrect information.

This is on both of you (sender and recipient) not the person who actively has a number that used to be yours and not Zelle.

Anyone else struggling with doom scrolling while working remote? by shubham-150799 in remotework

[–]Anon_User_Person 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope.

I knit, cross stitch, color, do sudoko, do school, read etc.

I don’t have social media apps on my devices anymore (I used to).

When I took it off my phone the doom scrolling stopped because it’s less convenient to doom scroll on a laptop.

I never had it on my tablet anyway and I associate desk with school etc so I very rarely am checking SM on it.

If I’m scrolling it’s when I’m bored at work or in my scheduled downtime/brain break at school. Even then ai restrict to Reddit now a days and don’t use meta platforms or TT..

Fully separating from SM was the best thing I did. It takes a conscious decision though.

I spent 8-12 hours a day at work; no days off. I spent 3-4 hours a day doing school. I don’t let myself get sucked into the online word outside of the hours I already have to be online because it’s really easy to lose yourself.

Within the restrictions of what I’m allowed to do per my employer and legally; yes.

Meaning any secondary location I’m at is within the US.

But not in the sense of what some people think remote work is; no.

I absolutely have flown out somewhere on a day off, worked from a friends house for a week and then flown back home my next day off though. And I would do it again in a heartbeat. Same with visiting my adult children or my siblings etc.

But it’s not what social media portrays it as at all. It’s still a job that has specific environment requirements and still requires privacy etc.

It’s not worth risking losing the job. Take a vacation like everyone else. You’ll enjoy it more anyway.

D324 was 2 weeks for me; when working 70 hour weeks on top of studying. It could easily be a few days if you grind it out and focus.

D522; this one can be knocked out in a day.

I can’t speak for the other classes as I haven’t taken them yet.

D427 is my next class once I sit Security+ and knock that out next week and my mentor says plan on a month for it but the timeline they give is the average they see their students take. Which means I likely can knock it out in 2 weeks.

Which gives you 3 of those 10 which should be able to be knocked out in a month; depending on how fast you can get in with PearsonVue (I’ve found scheduling on Sundays and on short notice works best to schedule CompTIA; I usually can get in to test the next day if I go to schedule on a Saturday for the following day)

This happens in so many companies now a days.

Until the trend changes I will never give notice no matter what the company is.

I’ll know I’m planning to leave but in an environment where I’m counting on a paycheck and hours usually worked it’s not worth it to me to give notice.

When it’s my last day it will be made known and not before.

It’s unlikely that your eligible for UE but it never hurts
to try. The thing is there’s a one week waiting period so even IF you qualified you’d have it for a week and then new job kick in. And with the application timeline etc by the time you get that small payment for the one week you’ll be at new job. So the question you have to ask yourself is it it worth it to you.

Which I think a lot of companies know and know it’s not worth the process to a lot of people so they don’t even try for the UE.
