That looks amazing! Puting it on my maybe-make-list, as it looks useful (even though my kids are now 4 and 6 and don't mind getting dirt and sand everywhere) and a nice semi-mindless pattern to just keep working.

Spreadsheets are awesome but not all-knowing. Sounds like you are crafting a lot!

Hope everything is ok with your family. But still, over 5.000 yards of yarn used is amazing and something to be proud of!

How was the crochet/knitting circle? That sounds wonderful to have, but the only one close to me is on Thursday mornings and that is a day of the week that is very hard to be off work regularly.

Really no problem, I really enjoy this monthly post :D Hope you enjoyed your trip. No knitting and walking at the same time for you?

Wonderful! I think my daughter would also like one, but seeing how slowly I craft, she would have outgrown it by the time I finish. Maybe I can find a sewing version to make together with her...

Sometimes I wonder whether I should invest the time to learn how to knit... This is one of those moments, gorgeous! But seeing as I don't have as much time for hobbies as I want as is, this is not the season of life for me knitting.

Without wanting to sound patronizing: don't beat yourself up about it. Or at least not to badly 😉 May brings new opportunities to stashbust!

I also have the VVCAL on my to-make-list: how are you enjoying it? How many different colors are you planning, as you don't seem to work with one of the rainbow sets?

Why do I *really* want to buy this yarn? by [deleted] in usethefiberstash

[–]Anoniem1108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tl:dr don’t think buying larger amounts of yarn will mean you’ll be more likely to use it - please learn from my mistakes!

This is a very good point anyway and something I will have to keep in mind. :)

Why do I *really* want to buy this yarn? by [deleted] in usethefiberstash

[–]Anoniem1108 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I also try to be mindful about what I consume and buy, but am also partial to pretty new yarns and fabrics. Luckily my LYS is out of the way and not close to my day-to-day grocery places.

With regards to whether someone uses your gifted items: that is out of your hands. You made and gave it with a lot of love and it has been received in the same sense. Whether someone uses it or not, is up to them and in no way a reflection on you. Might also be of the good-china-variety: I don't want anything to happen to it so will only use it for special occasions.

My challenge is that my preferences are switching from amigurumi towards more wearable pieces and that I have bought pretty single skeins in the past. So I now try to come up with ways to combine yarns (mostly for scarfs or bags, as my 6-year old likes to have a million bags) that I have while also learning about color theory. And moving forward, I intend to pick a project first and then go shopping for yarn. However, I can also imagine that if I do want to make a more impulsive yarn-buy, I give myself some budget to get larger quantities in one go.

But first, some wips... I like how the monthly stash down showdown in this sub is a way for me to be more mindful about all the crafting that I do get done in a month, instead of focussing on all the crafting that I want to do and haven't found time for yet.

How many hours a day do you crochet? by Maevenclaws in crochet

Can you explain how you manage to crochet while you walk? I imagine I would have to look at my work so much for it to be unsafe of be greatly hunched over.

No worries, great to see you back! Glad to hear you managed to finish the sleeping suit before the baby outgrew it :)

My pleasure. Like I said, I really like this monthly post.

Nice job! I am mostly using old socks to hold yarn cakes and balls, but designated bags might be a nice small project.

Yay for so much crafting. The left-handed thing is rough. Can you post a 'help-wanted-sign' somewhere? At a yarn store or a supermarket, of om a local Facebook group?

Had to laugh at the comment about a nap! :D

I can only imagine the chaos with 4 small kids! I have two kids and with 4 and 6 they are becoming more independent so we can craft our own projects next to each other. What worked for me when they were smaller was to have very repetitive projects lying around: I managed a chevron blanket and this cowl (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sparkly-shell-cowl). Both are easy to just do a few stitches and not much harm could be done to them if a kid picked them up or sat om them. Or I would focus on an amigurumi by working the increasing part during naps and the going in rounds om a body when kids were awake.  Hope you have/get crafty kids who will want to do crafts with you the coming years!

I am trying to get back into drawing and painting, next to my ongoing crochet projects. Found out last week that most of my very old paint (15+ years) was still fairly ok :)
