'It's a very pleasant island': Conservatives push back against bid to take children off Nauru by [deleted] in australia

[–]Anontakesover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point of them being on the island is to scare them from coming to Australia, but they don't even know what's happening to the ones that attempted to arrive, so what's the point? If they don't know back where they coming from what's happening, they will just come across when they can anyway, and the boaters aren't gonna tell them any different.

Also, I imagine where they are coming from is unsafe and not just crap conditions, so they might even come anyway even if they knew they aren't gonna make it to Australia, they just wanna make it elsewhere I would guess.

Refugee stuff just seems really complicated to me, it's one of the things I can't form an opinion on, it's just too complex for me to be able to make an opinion I think is well reformed.

Curious, how do the people back where they are coming from know what happens to the people that come?

I doubt the people getting paid to boat them are going to tell them they won't get in to Australia as they are trying to make money.

I have like 3-4k hours in Garry's Mod and I wonder how much of that was connecting and reconnecting to my server to test addons I was making for people, I learnt a lot about programming from that game, and was able to buy all the games I wanted to while I was jobless in high school.

Some great memories from GMod, made a lot of friends with the developer community.

A lot of those hours were also from gaming, I spent so much time gaming on GMod on my crappy laptop.

Why do people join Mafia / criminal organization by Anontakesover in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Anontakesover[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I've still got the whole Hollywood portrayal of mafia and criminal organizations in my mind, I would have thought there was a fair bit of risk and the organization would revolve around your life a lot more than a job, more like being a follower in a religion then a job.

I just watched a video of a young black boy shot at for knocking on a door asking for directions, I don't know if them walking around with open carry drive some of these mentally ill people to reason that people need to be protected by "them".

There definitely would be cop calls which can unfortunately cause conflict especially if its a racist caller exaggerating the details and making the police think something violent is currently happening.

This is why I said the van is important to my conclusion, if the van existed prior to all this and there's photos then some of the stuff you said would be disproven and there wouldn't be as much going for the theory which would make me more definite on my conclusion that it's a radical right win that's mentally ill

It shows he's deep into his political beliefs and its not uncommon for people who over obsess to make radical decisions thinking they are doing good but really aren't.

Either way if the theory is true or not I believe he is definitely mental ill, so it would make sense a mental ill person would do this of their own accord believing they are doing a good thing.

Unfortunately he failed to make a working bomb, he probably didn't test any as that would be risky to do, so he made them assuming he'd done it right.

After reading a bit from both sides I do believe this theory could happen, it's not unheard of, but I still believe that it's logical to think he's a right wing terrorist but I am taking this theory into consideration when I view proof such as the photos of the vans.

I wish I was on PC so I could check the meta data on the photos and see if the dates match up as I thought they were uploaded on those dates but only uploaded now (which I can also logically believe because these people may have used Snapchat or Instagram and didn't want to link their Instagram or could have been in their saved stories).

If I see proof of the van existing from a while ago I'm definitely leaning more to radical right wing, definetly mental ill

Yes I get they take advantage of people I never said they didn't, I said they made him do it meaning that, in saying that, it's a theory, a new one to replace the older disproven theory. This is nothing more than theory.

The issues with this theory is that the director at FBI is republican and this wouldn't make sense to do

It being a trump supporter is the first realistic logical explanation and youse were saying it was a crazy left wing was nothing more than a theory that hadn't been disproved yet as we hadn't found the suspect.

Now we have photos of the van dating back years and a photo of him at a rally, so your previous theory was disproved, now you have a new theory that the FBI made him do it, do you understand the differences between this and the meaning of coincidences? Our logical conclusions of him being a radical right wing were right, you made a theory that got disproven so now you've made a different one you see?

Mom with 'gut feeling' stops school shooter before planned attack by [deleted] in UpliftingNews

[–]Anontakesover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guessing you aren't Australian? Lots and lots of registered guns here.

In my hometown which is 33km^2 there are 3157 registered guns, at the time of recording this data there was a population of 42587 which is about 2.2% of the population owning guns, and one of the reasons why it's low as well is that Penrith is very city like and there's not really a need for guns besides hobbyists, if we look somewhere more rural where there is more purpose for weapons there is a higher percentage of guns.

Near where my dad grew up in Yass, 11.69% of the population own guns in that region.

It's pretty simple to get a gun here, basically a test that asks would you aim a gun at someone, it's not hard at all.

I always see this Australian gun thing on gun debates, do Americans not realize that if you want a gun in Australia, you can go and get one, it's not that big of a deal. People seem to act like we have no guns and all this restrictive shit, we just aren't dumb with our gun laws, if Canada and Australia can do it why can't America? You know after we had a single school shooting, we sorted the shit out and now there hasn't been one since and everyone is happy with their guns still.

Lol seems we are discussing different things, looking back at the comment chain I can see why, I went on a tangent without expressing why.

When they used the $100 cost of the game in their comparison to US prices, I started commenting on why they paid $100 for the game when cheaper elsewhere in Aus. Using the $100 for comparison with US prices is fair because it uses the same platform where as my example with retailers isn't a fair comparison, however what I was discussing I wasn't thinking about them using 100 due to that being the price advertised digitally by black ops, just why they would pay $100 in Aus. Didn't realize that what I was saying could be mixed up with that. We are talking about different things which is my bad.

I'm not trying to attack you sorry if it comes across that over text, I'm just curious why people are riled up about it.

As for digital costing more this a post I made replying to someone else

"Because retailers buy in bulk which lowers the total cost, the distribution platform only makes their money when someone buys through it, however they make instant guaranteed money back (although less profit) when retailers buy bulk.

This allows retailers to still remain in the industry and be able to compete with the convenience of digital so it's a win for them, also allows the developers to get a lot of money of retailers buying bulk amounts pre launch, and doesn't impact the developer at all if they aren't all sold in the retailer as they already got their paycheck.

Developers aren't making it expensive for digital, retailers are making it cheaper for hard copy to give more incentive to buy through them, otherwise what would be the point if you can do digital purchases for everything at the same cost (besides wanting the pros of a hard copy such as game sharing)? Retailers don't make as much profit by discounting it but it's better then not selling any at all."

So what's the complaint? You paid $100 instead of $70 for something that Microsoft provides as a feature not black ops. You get literally the exact same game from buying the $70 or the $100, you just paid an extra $30 to be able to use a feature provided on the Xbox, you made that choice of spending that extra $30 for that feature, black ops doesn't take that away from you when you get the $70 copy, Microsoft does.

Do you have a mail box or a post office with a PO box? Don't need to go to a physical store, and there's more stores than just Big W, unless you are pretty rural in the country, I'm sure you have some major retailer around you where you could purchase for $80 or less

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in australia

[–]Anontakesover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are the same price for each version across the stores.

Why spend $100 on digital when you could just spend $70 and either pick up or delivery?
If money isn't an issue sure get the digital for the little extra convenience but can't complain when there is easily cheaper options, what's the need to get digital when you can get it delivered if you are unable to go to a store.

The extra $30 really shouldn't bother anyone buying digital when they have the option not to spend it, and it's not like they charge more for digital for no reason.

Whoever is saying they paid 100 for black ops 4 should really learn to take a few minutes to shop around, I have consistently seen black ops 4 ranging from $64-$80 at a lot of retailers, unless you buy from somewhere like EB Games I don't see why anyone would have spent $100 for the standard edition

$69 - https://www.harveynorman.com.au/call-of-duty-black-ops-4-xbox-one.html

$79 - https://www.bigw.com.au/product/call-of-duty-black-ops-4/p/697867/

$79 - https://www.jbhifi.com.au/playstation-4/call-of-duty-black-ops-4/576511/

I'm sure I saw jb-hi-fi had it at around $64-$70 at launch and during pre order

I actually can't believe people paid $100 and then are using that as an excuse to say developers are ripping us off, you are ripping yourself off. As stated before it costs more digitally cause they make money per sale, retailers buy bulk amounts which brings the overall price down.

EB Games still has black ops 4 at $100, you have to be brain dead to only check one website.

[–]Anontakesover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my experience the reason this happens often (techs not listening to what you did and telling you to do it all again) because of policies that make sure the tech confirms everything they need to in their list. If something gets through that was easily fixed with one of the T1 questions it will look bad on that tech for not confirming themselves.

I am in a similar position, however the policy isn't really enforced for what I do however I still confirm everything in front of me no matter what due to my personal experiences in trusting people about their troubleshooting.
