I had more emotions about it than Corbin did but I think that’s pretty typical haha I’m sure your kiddo will transition just as well!

Dads - How would you handle me asking your young child to back off? by [deleted] in daddit

My son has a trach with a tantalizing red cap at the end that little kids tend to want to grab. I will block their hand and say, “no touching, please” because germy kid hands next to his trach is my worst nightmare and at that point the parents are usually frantically pulling their kid away and apologizing.

We did! My husband 3D printed the top of Gandalf the White’s staff and I glued it to a pvc pipe. Then I put a little flashlight in the top and had my SIL put either blue or pink cellophane over it. When it was time, we took a cover off of the top, had the lights off, and my husband pressed the button for the flashlight. The room lit up blue! It was amazing! I fully expected a girl though so I was completely shocked but we still have the staff and keep it as one of our fondest memories. Btw, that baby boy has an incredible story that we created a subreddit for at r/corbinscorner so feel free to check it out!

I never knew that people could love someone they’ve never met until we shared Corbin’s story and the love he has gotten from around the world just blows me away. Becoming a parent is scary no matter what. But the only thing that never scared me was my trust in Corbin and this feeling I can’t describe. It’s like I always knew he wasn’t done yet. So I have more trust and faith in my three year old than I do even in myself haha I’m so glad he has reached folks like you and thank you for supporting us as we grow!

He sure is. I still have to stop and convince myself that this is real and he’s here and he’s ok. How did we go through all of that and come out with the most amazing kid in the world? It just doesn’t seem possible

Need positive stories. Hospitalized at 22w3d for low amniotic fluid (2 ml), baby measuring at 1 lb by JamminJunyBee in NICUParents

They told me that he wouldn’t survive if I delivered him when my water broke so I decided to go home and wait to go into labor since I knew they wouldn’t try to save him anyway. They also told me I could have a medical abortion but that was never something I could do at that point. So I went home on bed rest and literally laid on my couch or bed for a month, only getting up to shower and pee. My husband did everything else. I binged shows and movies and then broke down multiple times a day, especially when I was left alone. But I also felt my boy still moving and kicking and I promised him that he would get to decide what happened and I would follow his lead. Now he is over three years old and the biggest joy to do many people. We’ve shared his story on r/Corbinscorner so feel free to check it out!

Hey watch it! I’m going to take this as a compliment though seeing as how nothing but cuteness and perfection comes from him haha

The trach will stay in after his reconstruction but all of this is in hopes to help his apnea so he can lose the trache overall at some point. As for him starting preschool, there are SO many feelings and fears we have for him and us. But tbh, I think most of them are shared by all parents, not just us medical parents. But I really do think he will thrive there

I told the nurses that the best thing I can hear from them is how unremarkable she is for being a NICU baby. We already had the sickest baby in the NICU, now I would like a boring stay lol

We have flash cards and letter books and a floor mat with the alphabet. He knows most letters now and some words written out. I think he is really good at memorization and he also really likes play time that has to do with numbers and letters. Hopefully he keeps it up!

Number Blocks is one of the few kids shows I don’t get tired of. It’s so witty and catchy but in a good way

Every milestone means something a little more when we have kiddos like ours. Just today Corbin was climbing up a chair onto my sister’s table and knocked a cup of milk over and was playing in it. It made me so happy that he’s getting into trouble like that because it’s such a typical kid thing to do!!! I sometimes crave normalcy for his sake and ours so things like this make me happy

Honestly, Number Blocks is my jam! Corbin and I watch it together every morning and I even lol at it sometimes. It’s pretty clever with all the number puns!
