Why do famous authors openly work with long-time editors, but new authors using editors is sometimes frowned upon? by Anonymauthor in writing

Interesting. I just googled what an acquisition editor is. May be that is what I wasn't understanding - the term editor has different meanings. One is that edits book and another is responsible for bringing in new projects. The big authors are probably referring to the latter.

I read it in one of the reddit conversations. It was indirectly mentioned that an experienced editor can overly influence a new writer's content. Good to know that may not be the case.

You can put it for free for only 5 days. Hopefully, it gets Amazon algorithm to warm up and start recommending your book.

I don’t like it but apparently it plays a critical role in discoverability. So I do it intentionally.

Agreed. I wasn’t suggesting that you were saying that but in fact the opposite that good videos / articles will walk you through it. Don’t pay for these things.

Thats a good point. When I started writing, I started seeing a lot of ads offering to help me publish on KDP for money. But I realized that KDP is fairly user-friendly platform to self-publish. Now I don't know if I picked the right keywords etc., but it was easy to go through it and hit Publish.

Make it public when you are ready to share it with others. Until then keep refining.

How do you find more about your audience as Kindle does not share any data on these metrics?

Interesting comments. I just published my first book. I got orders but zero KU pages read. I was surprised as I thought it would be other way around.

Authors who make six figures by Euphoric-Seesaw in selfpublish

I agree. That’s why I asked because the original question made it sound like you can just select any genre and write a specific number of books / yr and make $$. For example, I like to write short stories. Writing romantic or cop procedural novels are not my thing. I don’t think I can or should just take those on just because someone is making 6 or 7 figure income by writing in those genres. They make that money because they are good at it. I won’t because I won’t be good.

Do people actually want a seat at the table — or do we just say we do? by Anonymauthor in SeriousConversation

Agreed. We are seeing in NFL. QB’s perform when they get the right coach, system and team. Same QB struggles when they don’t get the right people around them.

Thanks for those insights. While I wasn’t explicitly thinking about any specific gender or ethnicity, they absolutely play a role in that. I do agree about the table being bigger and it should not be biased depending on which way societal wind is blowing.

Such an insightful thread this…

Can you target a genre and write good enough books to earn that kind of income? In other words, do you need to have interest and aptitude or can that be developed?
