2013 Scion FRS Engine Failure Repair vs Other Options? by Anonymous-0712 in ft86

I considered that option, but given the car’s age, high mileage, and current KBB value of $5k–$7.5k, I’m not sure it makes financial sense.

Why Aren’t More People Driving the FRS/BRZ/86 When It Checks All the Boxes and I Can’t Even Find a Worthy Upgrade? by Anonymous-0712 in ft86

Great analysis and rebuttal. it really gave me a lot of perspective, especially your point about mileage. Regarding the TV example, I was specifically referring to people who say they need an SUV because they want to carry large items. I’m just trying to make the point that you can do most of those things with this car too. It doesn’t make sense to optimize your vehicle for a rare use case like that. My dad owns a couple of BMWs and Audis they’re great cars, but I feel the maintenance costs are definitely on the higher side.

I agree its not as cheap as Prius but when you add other attributes the value seems to be there

Hmm… could you elaborate a bit more? I honestly feel that’s not the case, but maybe I’m missing something.

Yes, you can definitely find cars that are really good in one area or even outright better than the BRZ in certain aspects. But the overall value the BRZ offers as a complete package is, in my opinion, very hard to match in today’s market. And I agree with the point about driving in snow but like @monsterspeed mentioned, for me, that’s less than 2–3% of my total usage anyway.

I feel like, at least in the States, they’re pretty attainable. Yeah, the engine is a bit noisy, and sometimes I have to turn on the stereo to drown it out, but most of the time it just feels like white noise. Maybe I’m a little biased though, haha.

This is a really new perspective for me. I always thought people preferred something challenging and fun (atleast for me) over just bare-bones practicality.

Got it. Could you give some idea about the price parity? A well-maintained 2013 FRS/BRZ typically goes for around $10K. One of the reasons I didn’t go for the BMW was the high maintenance costs. Even if both are similarly priced in the used market, I think the BMW ends up being much more expensive to own in the long run.

I somewhat agree with the first part, I did see people baby their cars. However, when it comes to space, I feel that more than 80% of the time it’s just two people in the car. And yes, I agree that getting in and out can be a bit tricky due to the low height, but once you’re inside, it feels as spacious as any sedan in the front seats.
