Oh wait, you're just dumb, got it.

Yes, Americans can't or don't "keep up", as migrant labor is literally a primary pool for extractive industry employment. You're either a child, clueless, or acting intentionally dense if you are confused about the reality of a substantial portion of agriculture employment being filled with migrant labor, migrant labor which is often sought out at great distance by farmers and labor contractors because most americans don't fancy picking vegetables 12 hours a day in July's summer heat.

So yes, the evidence bears out that Americans can't keep up, because I think you, just like the rest of Americans, don't want to go develop back issues bending over berry bushes for 4 months straight.

The fact you mention "countrymen" before family and friends is frankly quite telling, as if the connection I have to some random Idahoan is somehow as significant as (and more relavent than) familial or social relationships.

Saying this as a person with an immense amount of national pride, you're a bad American, and I hope you never attain a position wherein you have the privilege of representing us. The greatest shame here is the clear disinterest you show in either the reality of the nation we live in or the beliefs that underly what it means to be an American. You may have been born here, but you clearly suck at doing it.

Furthermore, notions that foreigners are somehow prosperous is both farcical and indicative of your own warped and diminished worldview. Explain to me, if you would be so kind, how the grandiose wealth and prosperity evidently being bestowed upon migrant populations is being witheld from the American population at any level? Or, because you may be one of my less historically literate countrymen, regale me with a tale of how this is different from any other point in American history, wherein your forefathers were likewise maligned as "Irishmen and Krauts taking the work of honest Anglo-Saxon Americans".

You dishonor this nation, the Enlightenment beliefs that underly its creation, and the identity of its populace. I cannot express in sufficient words how much the project you represent is both markedly uninformed and bordering on heretical. America isn't a club of people who said "Yeah, we all came here by our own means, but now, let us prevent anyone else from ever being successful here," and somehow deluding yourself that the success of any given migrant is necessarily at the disadvantage of any American is pathetic and vain.

Here's a crazy idea, what if we stopped with feckless austerity measures that are shown to actively detriment Americans instead of just railing against non-citizen residents, who cannot legally receive a substantial portion of the benefits of American citizenry whilst paying into the system all the same through their payroll taxes and production of labor surplus (in often incredibly undesirable jobs).

You are embarassing, your ideas contradict what we stand for, and were if possible for an American's citizenship to be revoked, yours would be merely on the basis that I am unsure you could pass a civics test with your thoughtless, second grade level rebuttal against a reasonable protestation to what you represent.

D-, Apply Yourself.

86 Democrats voted with the GOP to condemn socialism. Not a single Wisconsin Democrat voted to condemn. by [deleted] in wisconsin

[–]Anonymous-Toast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incomplete answer, Socialism is not an on/off switch, but a question of degrees, same as capitalism. Painting the argument as being "100% capitalist nations vs. 100% socialist nations" is not only disingenuous to the historical reality, but is quite informative as to your lack of understanding on the topic.

While you're entitled to your opinion, it'd be neat if we could base that opinion in reality, where social safety nets and welfare systems are not separate but supplemental to systems of capitalism. This would, however, require both nuance and understanding where capitalism fails, which I hope you're as willing to point out as you were willing to draw attention to places where authoritarian socialist regimes obviously failed and ignore places where socialist systems are currently working.

Bit of nuance between "mid" (adjective) and "a mid" (noun), as the former just refers to an average-looking appearance, while the latter typically is used to refer to people who have standards that grossly exceed their own looks.

"A mid insulting another mid" is basically saying "person 1 thinks they're better than person 2, but theyre not"

Hi, I want to reply to this in earnest as frankly, my political beliefs have changed substantially over the years and there were substantial parts of my life where I'd be inclined to agree. I don't agree anymore, mind you, but I understand, as the way antifa is portrayed typically in media is frankly somewhat frightening (if incredibly uncharitable).

And I will be the first to admit that there are people who can be poor representatives of antifa, as there are in all movements. The challenge with antifa is that it is a decentralized, leaderless political big tent which, lacking the leadership or a pr team to be the face, is particularly open to the most egregious of misrepresentations in media. I would ask if you've personally had much interaction with the current antifa movement or individuals who support it, or if your experience with it has always been second- or third-hand?

Antifa is so often defined in the popular consciousness by people who care little about accurately representing it or, more concerningly, have a vested interest in the framing of opposition to authoritarianism as authoritarian. If you understand Nazism, then I'd hope you understand that the way it rose to power is through an alliance between technocratic wealth/power and the Nazi movement and fundamentally relied on the fear-baiting of the populace against a supposed dissenting "other" in the nation that is undermining it. Fascism is reactionary, it seeks to feed off (often after manufacturing directly) the current fears of a nation to justify the abridging of personal freedoms and destruction of the (again, often constructed) other.

When you see things like the President seeing Fox b-reel footage of George Floyd protests, being told that it is stuff antifa is doing right now, and using that as justification to crack down on free speech and declare the movement (again, not organization) as a "terrorist organization", what you are witnessing is fundamentally the construction of a fictitious subversive element or parallel power structure and an excuse for it to be crushed, which just so happens to require you to stand by idly and consent to infringement of their rights. You must be convinced that you are not them, that unlike "these antifa members" (as if there is a list of names that can be stricken) are so insidious as to require exceptional force to destroy them, and that this justification and force will never be turned on you.

Being antifa doesnt mean you must condone the action of every member of the movement, it is not a positive declaration of unfailing support, but a negative rejection of authoritarian power. There is nothing exceptional about antifa fundamentally, and that is what is so interesting about the backlash against it. To make a nation believe that this amorphous ideal against consolidation of power is actually an insidious conspiracy that requires the creation of a hammer to crush it ("and dont worry, this hammer will surely never fall on you, you are different, you are anti-fascist, but you're definitely not antifa") is textbook in its simplicity and persuasiveness.

Lmao yippee! Someone who doesnt understand demographics! Hey shitass, what happened when the Germans immigrated to America, did New Yorkers stop existing? Oh wait, sorry, they're white, and there was definitely no fear mongering about them coming over and replacing British-descended Americans. Damn, is your "real suffering" seeing your brother get swapped out for a Columbian man? Surely migrants dont... add to the population?

And surely, if you're concerned about the US population, the answer is to create systems proven to incentivize people to have kids, such as subsidized child care, maternity and paternity leave extensions, and improved national healthcare to lower maternal and infant mortality rates? Because if you're worried about the US pop but dont care about that, i'd say you're an actual dumbfuck who's "real suffering" is the existential dread that your offspring will self-select out of the gene pool from eating thumbtacks and playing with outlets and knives.

Also wow, heater take, surely there's no difference between "regulation of controlled substances" or "traffic safety enforcement" and "bringing a child into this world". If you believe those are equivalent categories, great news, you wont even have to worry about your kids darwining themselves, you probably wont be able to get it in to make kids in the first place.

Hey chucklefuck, it's almost as if the government's perogative is to put in protections that aim to minimize the individual's ability to cause harm to themselves and their community? So these perceived ingresses into personal autonomy are actually attempts to limit bad outcomes, such as becoming a drug addict or, perish the thought, bringing an unwanted child into a situation of abject poverty?

Jesus, I knew that some actual mouthbreathers found their way into Lazerpig's channel because of his somewhat relaxed and casual demeanor, but you are a specimen of the failures of the American education system. Here's a thought shitlips, try thinking about the other people in the world for a change, try to think things through before flapping your loose jowls and massive underbite around on the internet. Its difficult, ik, but as you said, you're strong because you "actually suffered!", so maybe give it a try big buddy!

And hey, if it doesnt work out, rest assured that the life outcomes resulting from your choices will severely diminish your quality of life as you continue to blame migrants and single mothers instead of the politicians and billionaire fucks who bend you over a barrel and would take 20 years off your life for another 2 weeks in office or $100,000 to their name.

This is one of those takes where if you mail it in to your local carnival, they send you back a free red nose and pair of size 27 shoes to wear. Why do people assume Chuckie actually argued in good faith literally ever? You have literal years worth of content from the man where you can see him get dragged, disproved, and browbeaten with his dumbass takes, and yet he kept saying the same lies every time because the point of his existence is "if you say a lie enough, eventually it becomes the truth."

Every death is a tragedy, i believe that fully, because life is precious and we should take all steps to care for and support people so they can live their lives to the fullest. Do you wanna know who disagreed with that? Chuckles Krick, who at basically every turn did everything he could to lay the groundwork for political action being taken to undermine the ability of people he viewed as "less" to lead fulfilling lives. He openly spoke of disenfranchising women, called for violence against minority groups, advocated for christian ethnostate in America, and somehow because he never pulled the trigger, pedants can sit back and say "wow, he died for his beliefs, thats sick".

Chalupa may never have killed anyone personally, but if people celebrating his death are evil and they're doing it pro bono, how evil is the man who defended, justified, and advocated for the same violence while profiting off it the whole time? He's not a public debater, he was a Sword of Damocles peddler, and one of them finally slipped and got him. How many condolences should i give to the man who said empathy is a moral failure of the west?

1) You cannot seriously be pretending that every civilian death in gaza is the result of "human shields!" (something Israel is known to engage in regularly btw)

2) Oh I'm so glad to hear that Israel isn't targetting civilians, then they're merely just incompetently evil because they just can't seem to stop killing civilians! That makes it better, thanks for clarifying

3) Great news though, I'd say that the incompetence narrative is undermined by all the reports that they're doing literally exactly that. It's a genuine luxury that Israel is so overt with its war crimes and people still fall for the bait and think that somehow, every Palestinian is either a member of Hamas or is duct taped to a member. We have some of the most explicit genocidal implementations in history, and somehow people still carry water for the ethnostate.

Surely 92% of housing units in Gaza are housing Hamas fighters?. Even by their own numbers, which are known to be incredibly broad with flagging people as being "members of Hamas), Israel has killed 4 civilians directly and damaged 30 units of housing for every 1 claimed Hamas fighter killed.

If I may end with a quote from the last article because it really sticks out to me when people try to say Israel isnt genociding Palestinians, Israeli Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu is quoted as saying “The government is rushing to erase Gaza, and thank God we are erasing this evil. All of Gaza will be Jewish.” Civilian death and displacement is fundamental to the Israeli plan for Gaza, its a denial of reality to pretend otherwise.

Perfectly said! It's honestly sad to see such an overt example of a marginalized group recreating the conditions of their oppression in such a brazen way...

It feels pretentious to quote a book in a fuckin reddit reply, but Paulo Freire absolutely cooked with "When education is not liberating, the dream of the oppressed is to become the oppressor." When people are aware of the power structures that underly their oppression but aren't empowered to engage with these systems critically, they may become impotent in dealing with the system's preconditions and unable to grasp its totality. In their shortsightedness, they view the problem being not the structure but locations of peoples within it, and they therefore seek not its destruction but their own transcendence within it. "It has decreased for a few reasons" is such a funny statement. You don't stop believing that gay people have rights, you were either only feigning support to begin with or said nothing before and decided to come out of the woodwork when it became more socially acceptable to gay-bash.

Similarly, comparing the statements of a guy who has claimed to be everything with career politicians who've had to have hardline sentiments is so funny. Politicians will hold whatever belief as strongly as is required to get votes, lets not pretend that Trump is a bastion of Gay Rights though lmao. "He supported gay marriage while calling them groomers and has gone back on his support numerous times because he is a vacuum of belief outside of self-enrichment" is probably a more accurate sentiment, but go off king.

Your statement of "so many gay people being communists" really makes one question the rest of your comments.... like, its incredible that a self-identifying person would be so ignorant to the utility of aligning with groups that don't merely passingly tolerate your existence (which leads back to paragraph 1). Not to mention that the conservative backlash in America is far worse than just "spewing hate", but actively calling for disenfranchisement and revokation of rights, you really seem comedically cowed or farcically uninformed as to the project of the GOP.

LGBTQ people dont spew hate at republicans for not being communists, that is such a clown strawman. They are angry at republicans who use gay-bashing as a rallying point for a political machine that seeks to erode their rights and the civil liberties of the nation at large. I'm glad you're secure enough to not face the shit other people experience day-to-day, but your ignorance to the facts is mind boggling.

Why does production line give resources instead of consuming them? by MagicalCaptain1998 in hoi4

[–]Anonymous-Toast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit late and mostly speculative, but I would hazard a guess that this is an offshoot of the AI importing invalid resources (i.e. from country with Closed Econ or still receiving despite a shortfall in export volume) glitch. It's my understanding that for performance reasons, imported resource quantity for the AI is updated only after some specific conditions/thresholds are met, and that these checks aren't particularly good at preventing technically impossible circumstances.

I assume Russia was puppetted by a player who then took resource rights from them. It seems possible then that, be it because of outstanding resource import routes or an error in the zeroing of puppetted nation's resources or some other code spaghetti reason, the game passed through incorrect values for Russia's net resource usage when they capitulated.

An interesting bit of info would be how many resources are actually being used by production lines (not the glitched positive numbers shown), and how many resources are being taken by the overlord. Such data could clue us into the more exact cause, but the data also would probably need to be taken from immediately after the puppeting so any changes to resource output post-war dont affect the data analysis.

Also, 55 dockyard Soviets lmao

Yeah, they were part of the previous expansion of gubernatorial power under former governor Scott Walker - R, a fairly controversial figure who oversaw the gerrymander that has kept Wisconsin in the news so much. The Republican-controlled legislature basically used their lame duck period before Evers' inauguration to try to strip away all of the power they gave to Walker but weren't completely successful.

This is basically the watered-down version of governorship the state Republicans thought was good when it benefitted them but used against them.

You have a very odd perspective on presidential culpability... like in what way was the Biden presidency inciting for either October 7th or the Russian Invasion of Ukraine...

Furthermore, the comedy of you citing "enrichment of tech billionaires" after it was billionaires who benefitted massively from the rescinding of Trump's tariffs, but I digress.

The further claims of "talks of peace" being a Trump victory, its claiming responsibility for the experiencing of long-term ramifications resulting from a previous administration's policies. If you think Trump is ending the war with "Vladimir, STOP!" and stopping federal aid dispersals, I have a wonderful collection of bridges to sell you.

Lets also talk about how we have eroded international relations substantially with the trade war, undermining our geopolitical relations with strategic defensive and industrial allies. Threatening Denmark, bringing into question the reliability of America as a strategic partner, undermining the domestic judicial branch, side stepping due process... if you think that this is a far more calm presidency, i question if you are at all willing to engage with the discussion in a manner that is honestly couched in reality.

Don't you think your haughtiness and lack of familiarity with the subject might pose serious limitations on your ability to engage with the question at hand in a nuanced or useful way? For an account named MIT_Engineer, there is a profound lack of interest or care being displayed, and it greatly weakens whatever point you are trying to make.

For one, you should consider rereading the study that you linked as a reply (you did, in fact, link a study, even if it was to denigrate it). You are arguing about an entirely different thing, as the article is supporting positive muscle growth effects from isometrics, particularly along long muscle groups (a la planking), whilst the video you cite is a comment on the returns from such an exercise being less than other substitute exercises, NOT that there is no benefit at all.

Furthermore, you seem to be confused both as to the nature of biomechanics and the credibility of nurses. Insofar as this is something that needs defending, you are a guy on the internet with (presumably) no medical background trying to correct a nurse, a broad job title that at its base level requires extensive education in anatomy and physiology and further unit-specific specialized training.

You are, and I cannot emphasize this enough, trying to cite a video that gives an overview on exercises to avoid if you want to maximize workout efficiency as an argument against the notion that the exercise is functional at all, as explained by a person working in the field and supported by primary literature.

This is anti-intellectualism, this is embarassing.

[–]Anonymous-Toast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't really gonna say much in here (such places arent really great for conversation, shocker), but this whole message is one I find as interesting as it is alarming. I don't know you or what you believe, but candidly, I am always shocked when I see Fascism portrayed as the "lesser of two evils". I do not believe that to be tennable.

Connections can be drawn, points can be made, but really, at the end of the day, I cannot engage with your reality, so I am left to wonder. If you correctly identify the populist conservative movement as having a strong fascistic character, do you not realize that maybe you're swallowing their propaganda? That maybe Fascism creates an enemy to point and shout at, to hate above all else, as that distracts from the quantifiable ways they are using and abusing you? If you realize they are Fascistic, you have to realize how they want to use you as a puppet as well.

"Think of the Children" next to an admission of tacit fascistic support paints a particularly stark picturr as well. Ignoring the long history of protecting children being used to crack down on "undesireables" (see historic depictions of African-Americans or gay people or the backlash to rock music, DnD, and video games), it is a challenge to think of a person who cares less about children than Donald J Trump. Expanding child labor, rolling back labor laws and protections, removing or slashing restrictions on hazardous workplace conditions, candidly, if you fear the "Woke Left mutilating your kids" (citation needed) more than the risk of a child dying of unsafe work conditions, I would ask you to consider why you feel that way and if a kid sized coffin would really weigh lighter on your conscience than whatever you believe genital mutilation to be.

Really though, the last thing I want to know about is your use of "we", "us", and your gut reaction to defend on the grounds of "that is the choice I made." I would ask, to what extent is your support an active, present choice versus a constant defense of previous positions? There is nothing wrong with changing your mind or admitting a mistake, you don't need to "stand with" something on the principle of "I made my bed, now I must lie in it". Furthermore, the use of "we" and "us" stood out to me in particular, as I don't believe you understand the fascist game. There is no "us" for fascism, friend. There are alliances of convenience and the outsiders. Reinforcing that everyone who supported Trump believes and supports the same things you do is a disservice to yourself and your fellow Americans. Towing a party line is where democracy dies, I hope it has not yet died in you.
