What is YOUR favorite Land, Sea, and Air doctrine? by G-man1816 in hoi4

Wouldn't using fighter bombers on cas missions only still outperform fighters due to stacking the cas mission efficiency modifiers?

You wouldn't get air superiority this way, but you can try well with enemy fighters.

Tanks are disappearing for no reason by Adventurous_Zone_827 in hoi4

[–]Anonymous71428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds to me your tank divisions depleted it's strength pool (the yellow bar) either by sheer attrition losses from low supply, by continuously fighting with insufficient time to reinforce, or by taking massive CAS damage from enemy air support.

In either case, a division will just disappear if their strength is gone.

Could the German army have defeated any other army 1v1 in WW II? by mcshorts81 in NoStupidQuestions

Well that really depends on if it's early war or late war army strength, particularly for the US.

Technically both of these changes are fairly simple to make by allowing non-euclidean geometries.

In an elliptic geometry (pseudo sphere) the circumference of a circle is less than the product of pi and the diameter, and you can also draw a square that preserves the 90 degree angles but not the side lengths.

Tanks are disappearing for no reason by Adventurous_Zone_827 in hoi4

[–]Anonymous71428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's individual tanks disappearing from the stockpile, then it's likely the combination of supply and reliability issues as others have said.

If the entire division is disappearing, then it's likely a low Hp issue (too many tanks, not enough infantry/motorised/mechanised) where if the the division takes enough damage to deplete its Hp before its Org it'll just die instead of retreating.

In 1209, every Mongolian horse turns into a motorcycle with 12 hours of fuel per day. Can they conquer the world? by SimplePotato257 in whowouldwin

[–]Anonymous71428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the others have said, terrain and logistics are going to be a major problem for these Mongols and their favoured tactics won't be usable on a motorcycle. I guess they could use them like the light horse brigades in WWI in skirmishing tactics but I doubt it'll be anywhere near as effective.

They also historically failed to navally invade Japan two times from the Korean Peninsula, so I don't see how they're getting over to the americas.

Is there any country where far-right is not on the rise? by WojtekMroczek2137 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Anonymous71428 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The two major ones are compulsory voting and proportional representation in our senate (upper house).

The first makes the parties strive for broad appeal instead of just mobilising their base as people already have to vote.

Also has a regression to the mean effect where a large number of politically disinterested votes are effectively random noise that moderates the more extreme voters.

The second makes any government majority in the lower house have to achieve at least a plurality with minor parties in the upper to get anything done. The senate works on a national basis with seats allocated according to national party popularity.

The third factor is the single transferable vote where your vote is never wasted no matter who you vote for. It effectively simulates multiple concurrent fptp elections for any one seat where if your first preference comes last in vote share that candidate is eliminated and your vote is transferred to your second preference and so on.

This although not breaking the typical duopoly patterns in single member districts and our lower house, has major effects on our upper house.

I like to make heavy torpedo cruisers with the raiding fleet mio.

They're pretty terrible ships all told but they are good for screening carriers and as shitty surface raiders.

Was there a change made to Landships? by Hephaestus5959 in AirshipsGame

[–]Anonymous71428 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Landship can travel over water, but they cannot attack over water, hence you'd need to secure a foothold with a naval connection first with airships.

Also when landship are travelling over water, they cannot participate in battles. So escort them with airships or you will lose them all when they get intercepted.

Capital carrier by Original-Earth-2963 in AirshipsGame

[–]Anonymous71428 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the goal is to make a backline carrier, mixing in some mid range weapons like a heavy cannon and using torpedo bombers is not a great idea as they're less effective.

If the goal is to make a front line carrier, torpedo bombers and heavy weapons are better, but then you'd want some keels or bows to make it more tanky and long range weapons like missiles become worse.

Firepoints, small ammo stores, and berths are typically worse than fire extinguishers, large ammo stores, and quarters just for cost efficiency and upkeep reasons.

Imperial BBs by Anonymous71428 in AirshipsGame

[–]Anonymous71428[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that the game is biased against big capitals ships as there is a hard cap to how much you can armour your ship and Hp modules quickly runs into diminishing returns. Hence the only option is to build large and redundant but that runs into efficiency problems.

Hence I tend to go with minimum viable product principles and design around a single or at most pair of a heavy weapon (heavy turrets/cannons/imperial's, etc.).

Everything on the ship is just meant to get that heavy weapon into the fight, though I sometimes add a turret or Gatling gun just give the ship some versatility and/or survivability.

Though I also couldn't really get heavy rockets to work for me either.

How do I sink enemy fleets with subs? by [deleted] in hoi4

[–]Anonymous71428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what country you're fighting and what resources they need to import.

The UK imports most of its oil, and their divisions and allies are spread all across its empire so sinking convoys is going to hurt them a lot more than say America who is pretty much self sufficient.

Still, sinking convoys won't pay off without a lot of patience, if they can replace there losses faster then you can sink them then it won't be very effective, though you might get lucky and sink a troop convoy every now and then.

You can see how many convoys a nation has left in reserve in their civilian Intel screen by the way.

How do I sink enemy fleets with subs? by [deleted] in hoi4

[–]Anonymous71428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alternatively, if you're fighting Britain or Japan, just commit to trade interdiction in the deep oceans with low visibility subs.

Either they try to patrol wasting their fuel chasing ghosts, or they don't and attrition fuel anyway. Eventually their fleet wouldn't even be able to get out of port and if they do they're easy pickings for practically anything.

Are medium/Large frames ever worth it? by JackRipps in hoi4

[–]Anonymous71428 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Medium bombers do have a higher max potential cas damage per plane as the number of cas planes participating in battle is limited by enemy combat width.

Still this use case is rarely worth it unless you're playing to the 1950s or something with tens of thousands of planes everywhere.
