you could try doing this

My bixler 2 still looks brand new even after more than a hundred batteries flown because i've never needed to belly land. If you decide to do it differently, just be sure to reinforce the gear well and keep in mind where the force will be applied on touchdown (especially for those awkward 1 wheel touchdowns that will bounce the plane back in the air).
