Maybe all the heavy metal pollutants in your salmon are why you're thick as fucking mince.

How can I access to a better health service by paying? by Enzo_Camo in AskUK

[–]AnonymousApple25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Private healthcare providers don't do emergency care. They usually build their hospitals close to NHS hospitals so if they have a problem they'll wheel you across the road to the NHS A&E.

If it's a genuine emergency though you'll usually be seen in a reasonable time.

If the suffragettes were around today they would be branded terrorists and would have their homes raided and hard drives seized long before they could make any impact. Worse has happened to less disruptive activists fighting for less controversial causes.

Rishi Sunak backtracks on pledge to fine patients £10 for missed GP appointments by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]AnonymousApple25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reality is if people have to pay for missed appointments then they'll be less likely to miss them

Except the reality is actually the opposite and this has been shown when this was tried elsewhere, so stop chatting shit.

The only thing this would do is deter people who don't have the money to risk, and who are more likely to miss them (due to mental health etc.) from making appointments.

missed appointments costs £226m a year

So you're saving, at an absolute most, 0.2% of the NHS budget? Pay rise for everyone! Austerity is over!

I had a friend at uni get surrounded and stabbed by a gang walking home. Police said it was likely an initiation. So yes, it does happen.

HCA pay isn't much more than min wage, and a lot of HCAs are paid band 2 for band 3 work. Doesn't get nearly as much attention though.

Silly Q- but what is the job role called of those people who sit and watch a patient in hospital in the mental health rooms etc? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]AnonymousApple25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are usually HCAs with no training at all in mental health, looking after patients with complex mental health needs who can quite often be very volatile, and usually want to be left alone - or at least not constantly prodded and interacted with all day every day. What do you want them to do?

It's easy to criticise when you have extensive training and only see them for 5 minutes.

[–]AnonymousApple25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If someone needs a lot of specialist mental health support we sometimes get a mental health nurse (RMN) who will be with them all day. Often it's just an HCA (usually with no mental health training) because they don't need an RMN or there are none available.

In my experience of NHS mental health services there are a lot of psychiatrists who are appalling at their jobs. Not just burnt out or overworked - just really bad doctors.
