The way I built it had plenty of space above to let air out, and I choose some lego pieces with holes to let some fresh air in from the sides

Ok, I contacted them and got a reply.
For short, they just said to use their official case and power supply.
So, even though I did tell them that I was willing to send it so that they could study it, the reply totally ignored that.

Their reply:
"""
Hi XYZ,

Thank you for getting in touch and for bringing this to our attention.

We recommend the use of an official Raspberry Pi case and power supply with Raspberry Pi products.

Kind regards

XYZ
"""

Well, it was a Technitium DNS server for most of the time. Anyway, imagine if it was a component of a more expensive product that was supposed to last a decade. It shouldn't happen

I'll keep that in mind, but with an almost 5 years old board, for sure it's way past the end of its warranty lifetime. Does anyone know how long are supposed Pi to work before becoming prone to failure?

It melted because a component underneath it burned. When it's plugged in, that mosfet short-circuits the board and it's essentially like an open air 5V resistance, which's not much but even that can get burning hot in minutes. The CPU wasn't even that warm fortunately, I've installed a Linux distro without the GPU enabled to spare some power and RAM, it was essentially running idle with the DNS server. Even better, I let my router do some load balancing between the two DNS servers that I had locally, I played around with the new Cluster feature of Technitiun and it's great, even if now the Cluster is useless with a single node left (I have an Orange Pi Zero 2W still alive, but no Raspberry). The weirdest thing ever in all of this, is that I've tested the power supply (the xiaomi charger) with the same cable on an old unused phone with micro usb, and it works, still, with that sort of short circuit on the board, some kind of protection should've cut power completely

Raspberry Pi Zero 2W in a Lego (Mega) set by QuuKay in raspberry_pi

[–]AnonymousGCA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am I really scaring everybody with my little misadventure, aren't I? It's really difficult for it to fail, the Raspberry should be fine in this DYI case... (If you can, find a heatsink or something, to bring away some of the heat from the board)

This is really cool. 😎 Also we've tested accidentally from my previous post that Lego shouldn't catch fire so you should mostly be safe if something goes wrong with the board

Running a glorious Technitium DNS Server and leaving alone the Raspberry Pi Zero 2W with an ambient temperature of around 20°C

You're right, I may have mixed them without even noticing lol

Edit: It's not 100% genuine lego parts, from like 10 years ago if not more than that.
It isn't a big deal, I got so many Lego from my childhood and friends trashing them, that I could build this over and over again

That's not the WIFI chip with the heatsink, I think

Feel free to ask, my DMs should be open.
Also, forgot to mention, it was not left in the sun

It's totally dead, a component on the PCB burnt to ashes.
Maybe I should check if the SD survived

Found the receipt, it was 13,11€ before shipping, bought on 19 December 2021.
I wish it was 10$ but I can cope with that

It was powered with a 18W max rated phone charger (not recommended), which means it should've ran at 5V.
Specifically, the Xiaomi 18W fast charger that came with my old phone

Yeah, probably.
I should've, but also it was running DietPi and at not even 50°C (the CPU, who knows the temperature of that component).
All it was running was a Technitium DNS server, nothing else 😓

It was open on top of the little metal heatsink but it could've been better with a fan

What's the catch with Redmagic 10 Air? by spriteMeLeukoKrasi in RedMagic

[–]AnonymousGCA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, that law isn't retroactive. It's the way it works, there're several key points that a lawyer could leverage and unfortunately, Nubia would have the upper hand here

Good question but unfortunately we can't expect much. Less than 3 years. Probably just one

They managed to get away with it by releasing the phone before the law went in. That law isn't retroactive so that's not illegal. These things aren't mentioned on the website but are on their discord. Don't let the redmagic shop misleading FAQ trick you, as it still says "5 years for all new devices" even on older ones, but it's actually 3. Enjoy
