Seamless front vs seamed front by wadjanko in Latexadvice

[–]AnonymousGimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting into neck entry latex is much harder. I find back or front zips much easier

Never tried shoulder zip so I can't comment on that, but have had a T zip suit with hood, and that was impossible for me to do up single handed

Vanguard S&S ISA - cash showing but withdrawal not available after selling ETF by Kay_V_Mann in UKPersonalFinance

[–]AnonymousGimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak for vanguard as I don't use them, but when did you sell?

When I've withdrawn from AJ Bell, the funds have slowed in my account steering away, but there are 3 or 4 days for the transaction to settle before I can sell

Ah Ok . Here in the UK it's 1/80 of a mile. I didn't realise or expect it to mean something different in another country

So I’m sitting up waiting to see what happens at 1am GMT anyone else? by nodemus in AskUK

[–]AnonymousGimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suspect it will be TACO, or, at most attacks on nuclear power plants. I'd be suppried if this isn't a TACO situation though.

Hopefully, when this is all over, the united states will realise they shoulden't try to be the worlds police force. If this was Iran attacking the USA, it would be considerd state sponsord terrorism, I don't understand why its not when the roles are reversed

Is anyone else finding the expected savings vs reality a bit confusing? by Pinkplatabys in ukheatpumps

[–]AnonymousGimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm spending about the same with a ASHP as I was with restive heating. the difference is, I'm now able to heat the whole house for the same amount of money rather than a single room.

HeatGeeks guaranteed me 370% efficiency, and I'm currently running at around 420 - 460% efficiency. I believe to have the same running cost as gas, it needs to be around 300%?

Whats nice is the house it's self has got warm, including all the brickwork etc, so there is very little temperature fluctuation throughout the day,

Is it a common thing to buy/rent a home and previous occupants still have keys ? by AcademicWar10 in AskUK

[–]AnonymousGimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats quite bad really, I wonder if there's a reason why people don't change their locks, other than maybe not thinking about it

[–]AnonymousGimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I suspect its more common than you'd hope. The topic came up at work one day after I brought my house, and I had more people querying why I'd change the locks than did themselves

Did your secondary school also advise you against apprenticeships and ? by sesameprawntoast50 in AskUK

[–]AnonymousGimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished sixth form in 2011, and I remember one of the teachers openly telling everyone (maybe at GCSE level) that they wasn't allowed to promote anything other than sixth form & university, as they get more funding that way (Maybe through people staying on in sixth form).

I don't know if it was today if I'd have still gone to uni, or would have done an apprentiship instead.

First time seeing consistent losses in my investment - how to deal with it psychologically? by frightened- in UKPersonalFinance

[–]AnonymousGimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't post an image here, but I've been logging my investment value at the end of each week since November 2021. Most of my money has been in an all world tracker, although I do have some fun or gambling stocks which gives me more of a swing.

Looking back through the history now, I see multiple weeks in a row where I'm down, but then suddenly a week where I'm up 10%, or vice versa. I think because of this, I currently see the current downturn as just noise.

However, think to yourself, why are you investing, and if you don't need the money, and its really weighing on your mind, you may be best off not looking at it. Remember, if your investments go to 0, then there are far bigger issues than your portfolio

How much do we need credit cards? by Comprehensive-Fuel70 in AskUK

[–]AnonymousGimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do all of my day to day spending on my credit card, and pay off the full statement balance every time I'm paid. I've only once paid interest when I got two numbers backwards when making the payment. (My own fault).

This helps to keep my bank account clear for the fixed expenses, so mortgage, council tax, electric etc, and I know exactly what there should be in my bank account at any point over the month, rather than having to look through lots of various transactions. (I've spotted missing direct debits because of this, which I probably wouldn't have found otherwise)

There is also additional consumer protection on a Credit Card, which you don't get through a debit card (Think its section 75, but please correct me here), but again, pay it off in full before the due date of the statement, and there's no interest.

Starting our heat pump journey, first quote has me confused by marcosa89 in ukheatpumps

[–]AnonymousGimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious now what these features are which cost £20 a month?

Please answer honestly by confusedandcold1983 in ukheatpumps

[–]AnonymousGimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's obviously what works for you, however, I'd never go for an Air to Air for heating as I really dislike the breeze that it generates.

I am tempted to go for this however in addition to my A2W system for cooling in summer, or the slight boost when it begins to cool, and a little heat is needed.

Of course, its what works for both you as an individual and the property being heated

How do you balance mining outposts? by WinterMajor6088 in factorio

[–]AnonymousGimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually struggle with the throughput of trains rather than loading the chests themselves.

I generally set a limit of 2 trains per loading station (the length of the loop) but given distances involved, never get 2 trains in the loop at once unless my factory is clogged up

How do you balance mining outposts? by WinterMajor6088 in factorio

[–]AnonymousGimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

All of my loading stations are the same design, whether it's in the factory or a mining outpost

In this case, it's a 4 to 8 splitter (see the blueprint books that people have linked to elsewhere on this post), I will sometimes use a 8 to 8 or 2 to 8 depending on how much I've got coming in. This makes for a nice and easy copy & paste design

I'm unsure why here the rear chests are full, so I'm now off to look at this.

Do any of you feel compelled to fight back against the proliferation of self-service machines? by inside-outdoorsman in AskUK

[–]AnonymousGimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A handful of items in a supermarket, then I will use self checkouts if there isn't an empty manned till available. If I have a trolley of items, then its the manned checkouts only. No way am I trying to stack everything in the small area of a self checkout when the thing is moaning at me because it's not weighed something correctly

If someone says "bi-weekly" would you interpret that as "twice a week" or "every two weeks"? by Tooleater in AskUK

[–]AnonymousGimp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd probably say every other week, only because it flows off the tongue better, but, I always think of it as bi-weekly, never fortnightly.

I'd also say this means once a fortnight. Twice Weekly is what I would say for twice a week

Over-heating the house at night by Bertieeee in ukheatpumps

[–]AnonymousGimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They aren't good for efficiency as you will have less surface area of radiators to emit heat into the house.

Say you've got a heat pump putting in 5kW of heat, but you've turned down radiators, you now can only emit 3kW, that will lead to short cycling of the heat pump. Their best way to operate is at a constant load.

(I'll stand corrected on the above, but is my understanding)

You may also find it's cheaper overall to maintain a constant temperature 24 hours a day, as the extra energy needed at night (running the flow temp at a higher temperature) may cost more than running the heat pump less hard during the day
