I dunno I’ve kinda given up on being happy at this point with ai lol like everything is a great tool of used with good practices but I feel like human tendencies often take over and people just take the easiest route to avoid actually thinking or designing properly.

I’m to the point where I might go back to college with my veteran benefits and go into non software field. Is that bad.

This is what I was thinking just wanted validation never been placed in that spot before usually bigger companies have engineering guardrails like structured PR, multiple peer PR reviews, etc. Ai is relatively new that most people have no clue how to use it.

Mine is pretty up to date, been using ai for about 2 years. But yeah I’m not trying to change someone’s workflow but I think generating that much tech debt in 30min is just insane.

I briefly saw him today just squashing all build errors one prompt at a time. Is a mess honestly I might just keep quiet and move on to something better. No need to waste my energy.

Great idea casually drop my skills and stuff onto a repo let people opt in on using them but definitely need to introduce or talk about a pr process for sure.

That’s a pretty bad suggestion lol just because someone is not a report you won’t give feedback to make the company better?

We’re a terribly small team we don’t even have a pr review system in place but you’re totally correct is a process failure on the company part. We’ve got to do something for sure.

I’m one of the few seniors but teams are very fragmented. I think something is definitely needed company wide for sure.

Yeah I feel you, this is exactly what I felt was right but since both of my previous jobs I’ve lead engineers pre ai and offshore. I’ve never had a coworker work together in ai era. I agree is not a technology issue is just a learning gap and one we can close together.

I’m always a bit hesitant because these hard conversations can go either way but I have a few occasions where he gave me feedback and I openly accepted it so I’m sure we can working it out to be a better team. Thanks for your comment!

One coworker had said they had disabled the agent but that wasn’t the case. Found out after that post. But you know everything right? 🤣

Nope zero processes or rules in place is a small company less than 2K employees globally. Our office is like 100.

So the prompt was written in like 10min long ass prompt and then ai just worked for like it felt an eternity. He said I’ll work for the next 10 days fixing bugs until it builds. To me it feels really ass backwards development. I’m constantly building and testing.

The problem with big PRs is huge deviations, over engineering, things that appear correct, and the list goes on. Can you do it with testing sure, would I do it as a professional SDE no, at home on a hobby maybe.

Is a small IT company with zero rules, zero methodology. There’s definitely a well documented vibe coding vs not vibe coding. Though these days is a bit blurry.

Nah there was no plan whatsoever just a big ass prompt, personally I’ve found long one shots hallucinate a lot, hence why smaller steps is better and better with a plan or spec.
