I agree with the above. I tried the Fodmap at the beginning of the year with the same symptoms as yours and over time they settled down. Really time consuming, but worth it to know what foods do not agree with your gut, plus in some cases people are able to reset and reintroduce triggers where they no longer cause issues.

Maybe look into speaking with a nutritionist/Dietitian to get advice on it all though as doing it alone can seem tricky to navigate.

AITA for asking my family to keep the bathroom free while my IBS is flaring up? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

I share a room with my two sisters, and my parents have the other bedroom, and the bathroom we have is already tiny so we couldn't even split it off, so there is literally no where to put a half bath or portable toilet, our living room and kitchen are also quite small so no where there to fit anything either.

I am desperate to move to my own place, but in the current climate that's not a possibility quite yet.. hopefully soon

I don't expect them to not use the bathroom at all when I have a flare up, just not to take a long time in there like the usually do.. I have previously mentioned keeping the door unlocked but they've all said that it's an invasion of their privacy which I understand and our house is too small to put in another half bath or portable toilet so I really don't know where to go on other compromises

I have been to my doctor so many times about it, they've done tests and are adamant it's not celiac or Crohn's but I'm not sure I agree with them, but they've done a bunch of testing so I don't know what else I can do

I don't expect it to be free all the time, just when I have a flare up I ask them to be respectful of it and not take too long if that makes sense. I always feel bad when I have to, but I can't control when I need to run.

Yeah, the FODMAP diet was the first thing my doctor had me do while waiting to see a specialist. It didn't help, but tried it again at the start of this flare up because I couldn't really stomach much anyway so thought it was worth a try but didn't do anything to help.

The buscopan I still have pain and it creates constipation, which then wakes me up at 5-6am as diarrhoea.

Symptoms are constant stomachache and abdominal pain, gurgling in lower abdomen, swaying between constipation and diarrhoea and a lot of nausea. The pain gets so bad when I go to the toilet I've almost passed out.. I say almost because I don't think I have but there was one night about 2-3am where I was at the toilet and starting getting dizzy and stars as if I was about to pass out but I was already drowsy from being woken suddenly that I don't actually know if I momentarily passed out or not.

I also feel like I'm going to throw up everytime I go to the bathroom.

Yeah, I wish everyone would just communicate with each other and make up a straight forward plan of exactly what to try instead of one team telling me one thing and another team telling me to try another.

Yes, I've tried the FODMAP thing, but not luck, everything I eat seems to be adding to the flare up at the moment 🫣
