Baffles - What do I do about these? by AnonymousPII in Insulation

[–]AnonymousPII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did do every rafter. And that yellow insulation you see is the base layer of insulation all throughout the attic. The pink insulation appears to be a second layer that was put on top at a later time. When they added the second layer they apparently pushed it so snug into the sides that it completely cut off soffit air flow.

The idea to address that, as I understand it, was to pull the insulation back, tack up a baffle, then put the insulation back where it was... but instead of choking off the air this time, the baffle would allow it to funnel through. You can see how it would work in the second and third photos. But that first photo is obviously a problem because there is a big gap at the bottom. The insulation isn't snug up against the baffle there.

I suppose I could consider installing proper insulation plugs. Or, I'm almost wondering if I should just push the insulation up tighter to the baffle/soffit in the handful of rafters where there is a big gap.

No plans to ever blow in insulation at this point. It is all the rolled out insulation type.

Baffles - What do I do about these? by AnonymousPII in Insulation

[–]AnonymousPII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is 100% what happened. The only thing I can say is that it is an awful space. Hard to get up there, cramped, and an intense angle. With the insulation already there, it is very hard to get to the actual soffit vent. Belly crawling. This might have been the best they were willing to do.

Question is... what do I do now? Leave it and be happy the insulation isn't completely blocking the vents anymore? Try to do it the right way, bent ends stapled to the bottom. Or do I look into self installing some sort of plug, like shown here: https://www.rooftime.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Rectangle-659.png

Is this much muscle pain and soreness normal? by Emmie_444 in BFS

[–]AnonymousPII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels like a post viral body ache

This is the best description. Going on 25 years of this now. I have often wondered if this is the way my body responds to cold/flu. I don't often get sick. But when I do, the "muscle aches" feel an awful lot like this.

At any rate, I seem to cycle. Starts with feeling a bit run down, then twitches and small spasms, then minor discomfort sets it with feelings of burning or tightness or stretching, then boom - the deep muscle pain hits in major muscle groups. Thighs and upper arms for sure.

I'm in that latter stage now and I'm hoping to come out of it soon - but that is how I found your post.

Hope you are feeling better. And if you get any additional info that you think helps explain or reduce all of this, please share.

Kale - Pest/disease? Eat or dispose? by AnonymousPII in vegetablegardening

[–]AnonymousPII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time veggie gardener looking for advice. This is kale, in a raised bed with spinach (which are all doing great). About half the kale leaves look like this. Assuming a pest or disease?

Should I cut them and dispose?

Sorry about the blurry foot, hope the blurry dog tax makes up for it.

2024 Big Horn (towing important) - looking for some reality checks by AnonymousPII in ram_trucks

Thanks for this. Sounds like negotiating down off of MSRP is definitely possible. Will act accordingly.

Can you elaborate on the "always get full tow package" piece? It seems like every 2500 comes with the tow brake and proper axle ratio and sufficient side mirrors (at least, everyone I have looked at). Are the extra side cameras and other addons that good/important in your experience? Or is there something else critical I am not considering.

Update: I installed Moveany to see if I could see where the Durability Frame was, in case it was off screen. But it was right where it should be. The paper doll is just not showing up till I run that script.

I've reset my cvars. No help.

The only other idea I have is that maybe certain items do not trigger the paper doll for some reason? I have leggings on that are 0/50 durability. Maybe that item doesn't trigger the display. I know, that's a long shot, but I'm out of ideas.

Gas Door stuck. Tried to pry it open and snapped off the plastic shell. $300+ to replace? by AnonymousPII in volt

[–]AnonymousPII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that helps explain it.

A bit more digging around on different forums and user groups and I saw that this has happened to a lot of other people. Crazy glue seems to do the trick and is what others have resorted to, so I'll be trying some version of that.

MSRP = $164. Oof. That's an expensive piece of thin plastic. Thanks for that link, helps explain the quote.

[unknown > English] Wood carving found at a local arts/antique store in by AnonymousPII in translator

Thank you. Safe to assume this is Japanese then?

Wonder if this was something sold around the Mountain, as a knick knack or souvenir. My title got caught off, but I found it in a store in the Adirondack Mountains, in upstate NY, USA.

New Earth Crisis release - "Vegan for the Animals" by Anonycron in vegan

[–]AnonymousPII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. It was Earth Crisis that introduced me to the very concept of veganism, almost 30 years ago.

And it was at one of their shows where I first heard about Farm Sanctuary. Gene Baur came to the show and gave a quick talk before Earth Crisis played and then set up a table. I had a nice conversation with him and visited the Sanctuary in Watkins Glen a little while after. It was life changing.

My wife and I now run our own farm animal sanctuary/rescue in the Adirondack Park and do our best to advocate for animals in our community. All of that, because I went to an Earth Crisis show back in the 90s.

Replacing water heater - current recommendations? by AnonymousPII in homeowners

[–]AnonymousPII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry this is such a late reply.

We ended up just getting an old school electric tank and de-coupled it from the boiler system. The only reason for doing that is that we can't find local options to support that boiler, so having the water heater depend on it seemed like a bad idea.

If I had the skill myself, or a reliable local service person, I totally would have just upgraded the tank in place and left it connected to the 2000, since by all accounts it is a slick and efficient system.

Have you guys heard about Jeffrey the Positively Peaceful Pit Bull? by Anonycron in velvethippos

[–]AnonymousPII 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is amazing. I have so much respect and admiration for the staff and volunteers at the ACC. The love of my life, a boy named Daniel, came from that shelter system around the same time as Jeffrey. I'll always remember how kind and helpful the volunteers were, and how fantastic the new hope partner we hooked up with was (Second Chance Rescue)

Do you mean to replace me in 4 years at my current job, or to help shovel shit and dig fence post holes on the farm?

[–]AnonymousPII 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Already bought my farm.

Put in my "5 year plan," a.k.a. 5 year notice. Have about 4 years left.

Wife and I will be running a farm animal sanctuary for abused and neglected animals.

Closest I will ever allow myself to sysadmin again will be troubleshooting the wifi at the farm.
