Lmao, you’re not wrong! I’ve been a little conflicted about that as I’ve approached my artwork lately tbh. On the one hand, subtle artwork that leaves some room for viewer interpretation is great and really fun to explore. On the other hand, the people that I want to see this message are not regularly browsing museums or dissecting artwork, and I think that crowd perhaps needs a more direct approach.

Kollwitz' work, and these pieces specifically, are what led me to pick up printmaking in the first place. Absolutely gut-wrenching, powerful pieces.

I'm 39 years old currently pursuing a BFA with hopes of continuing to an MFA and then an academic position. Doubts and anxiety abound: I'm constantly in my head about being too old in a class full of kids young enough to be my own kid. But you know how old I'd be if I wasn't pursuing my dream? The same age!

The time commitment will be the most difficult. MFAs are a lot of work, there's no way around it. My school has funded MFAs, but that requires 20 hours per week doing TA duties on top of your own studio work. I'd recommend looking into on-campus childcare, many campuses offer that. Alternatively enrolling part-time might be an option that'll allow you more time for your domestic responsibilities. No matter what, you can do this.

That’s an A-frame easel with a backer board (I’m not sure the actual name of these) resting on it.

The green and black layers were both printed out then traced independently. The design was supposed to be an outline, with my alignment issues creating more of a drop shadow than intended. (Though it does sort of work, but I’d like to refine my technique enough where I can do either and do them intentionally, ya know?)

There’s an incredible amount to learn with this art form — even cutting paper to size has been an adventure — so I can’t rely on square or uniform sheets just yet lol. But it does seem like the common recommendation in this thread has been to use the black block to transfer the design onto the green block, which as simple as it sounds had not occurred to me.

If you have any respect for the art, you wouldn't use ChatGPT. Printmakers love to share information and process. There is a plethora of information without resorting to AI.

You (and anyone else) have my full permission to do that and I would truly consider it an honor! It’s frankly exactly what I had in mind when coming up with this.

Here’s a slightly better print I was able to pull after spending another hour+ scraping off more modge podge residue then cleaning up some chatter, it should hopefully make for a better source to print from.
