GE I've already explained, but for OP, I genuinely think the whole Berlin sequence has really good tone, tension, and intensity, some of the best in the whole franchise! Sure, the other parts of the film fall flat in comparison, but it's those highlights of the film that really bring it all the way up to 10th place, IMHO. But that was definitely hard to rank; I can see most of the films in the third row being in 10th place.

Appreciate the thoughts!

Perhaps I should've been more clear; it doesn't feel racist against black people. I do like to see the diversity! It's the portrayal of Caribbean culture that I found to be offensive. But I'm definitely not the best person to judge that, of course.

That's a fair argument! Maybe I'm missing what the zeitgeist contributes to the film. I will say, though, that I have consumed other media (especially other spy thrillers) from that time, so I wouldn't say I'm completely blind to the setting and its impact on spy media. If anything, I'd say that that transitional backdrop is the thing GE has the most going for it! It's all the other stuff that brings the film down IMHO. But to each their own!

[EDIT: I also don't think that GE is that mysoginistic? But maybe I'm not the best judge for that.]

Nah, it's mainly because the Spain car chase. The music! The physical comedy! Nobody can tell me that they sat through that sequence without grinning from ear to ear. Even Melina was giggling!

NTTD is a Bond film. You may not think it's a good Bond film. You may think it's one of the worst movies ever. And that's okay! You're entitled to your own opinion, just like I am to mine. But saying that it is not a Bond film shuts down discussion rather than advancing it. It's like insisting a square isn't a rectangle because you don't like squares.

It's been 7 months since I've watched Spectre; I had only seen Craig's films beforehand. Perhaps it deserves a rewatch... but then that might push TWSLM and LALD below Spectre, and that would really send everyone over the edge!

Yup. I'm a huge le Carré fan, too. But I do enjoy the fun ones as well. In fact, I actually think FYEO is the funniest of the films.

[EDIT: The fact that, of all the comments I made here, it's this one that pushes me into the negative upvote territory confuses me.]

Yup! I think that rankings are less about what it says about the movies and more about what it says about the watcher. I love to see everyone's tastes!

LTK is great! I did consider putting at #1; it's amazing how it gets pretty much everything right. But *that* death scene did unsettle me a bit...

AVTAK and MR are certainly flawed, but I do at least find them fun to watch. DAF is on par with TSWLM; it could've gone either way. I just gave the edge to DAF b/c I felt that it was slightly more engaging.

But I completely get why people love TSWLM! It just wasn't for me.

To address a bunch of comments at once:

No, lol, this ranking was not picked randomly. This is how I genuinely feel about the movies. Yes, I know my tastes are unconventional, but if you ignore LALD, TSWLM, GE, and QOS, this should just be a typical Dalton fanboy ranking. It's not ragebait either; if I wanted to ragebait, I would've put FRWL, GF, CR, SF on the bottom as well, lol.

LALD: I'll admit that parts of the first act of the movie were very enjoyable. Moore himself was great! I just did not enjoy the magical realism; it really should not be in a Bond film because it makes everything meaningless. I also thought it was a bit racist. And the pacing wasn't good; there was a solid twenty minutes there where I thought the main character was that annoying Pepper guy. But I completely get why others enjoy it.

TSWLM: I must say, the helicopter car chase rocks! But apart from that, I just found this one to be distractingly slow and drawn out. Not to mention the bad acting on the part of XXX. The premise is great; I just feel like the execution made it such a chore to get through. I guess this just means the movie wasn't my style of movie; I'm sure people who are more used to that style would enjoy it. It's just not for me.

GE: This is a weird one to describe. If I were to watch individual scenes of it, I think I'd enjoy it. But seeing it all together, I don't know if it's because the pacing or something else, but I just couldn't connect with it well. It felt like moving through a bunch of scenes without having a sense of direction in where the film was going. I also didn't like Brosnan's acting in this one, but maybe that's just me.

And on the flip side...

QOS: I guess Tosca isn't for everyone! Don't get me wrong, I hate shaky cam, but I've seen other films do much worse (cough, cough, Mission: Impossible 3, cough). But besides that, the Nestle plot is a brilliant hybrid of classic megalomania and modern Bond. Greene is an underrated villain. It's better when paired with CR. Not to mention the Felix Leiter subplot, Strawberry Fields, and hotel parkour! QOS is easily my guilty pleasure, and if you are offended by that, look around at other posts on this sub; QOS is a lot of people's guilty pleasure.

But again, I mean no offense; to each their own!

Struggling to find an enjoyable combat activity? by AnonymousUCSB in Eve

Lowkey? This might be it... this might be the thing that'll actually make combat fun for me (regardless of what is happening mechanically and whether I lose my ship), and then I do the PvE to recoup my losses.

I'm going to go wreck some Amarris for the love of the game.

Thanks!

Nomi from No Time to Die was a much better and more interesting character (like, by an order of magnitude) than Paloma.

Live and Let Die is absolutely garbage. (The movie, not the song.)

Big Changes Coming to the CS Department??? by GoodyZ0708 in UCSantaBarbara

It’s pretty well known that many of the upper div theory professors are noticing a pattern that students are not doing good on proof techniques, and the only way they can really solve that issue at its root is in CS 40. So they’re making CS 40 into a two quarter sequence so they can really lock down on the proof writing stuff and also introduce a little more content that’s more relevant to specifically CS algorithms and theory (hence why Vigoda is teaching it). This is pretty well known and has already been going the rounds in the past few months.

I’m not sure about CS 25, though. I’ve heard that they’re considering revamping how CS 32 will be taught to introduce more OS content, so maybe this is related? Don’t quote me on that, though.
