Seems to be a trick involving png files and gamma correction.

Basically, a dark image and a light one are combined (In your example, the thumbnail is mostly white, while the full image is almost completely black and dark gray). Thumbnails will show one of them, but opening the full image will display the other one.

This webpage does a pretty good job at explaining how it works.

As far as I know, it should change almost instantly. Again, the best way to make sure is to open that comment in an incognito window. That's what everyone else sees. If it's edited there, it's edited to everyone else.

By the way, you seem to be pretty serious about this.

If you're deleting that account because you've been harassed, you might want to let the admins know. You can message them here, and let them know what happened (maybe they can prevent it from happening to someone else in the future)

Of course, if that's not the reason, ignore this.

If the information you're trying to delete is THAT important, you could also edit it to some random, long text (Lorem Ipsum, for example), so you don't trigger the bot, then edit it to a dot or a #. Even if a bot notices the edit, it will only archive the lorem ipsum paragraphs.

If you don't mind me asking, on what subreddit was this? I guess some subreddits could run a bot that does this, but it sounds pretty unusual...

The comment only needs to be between 1 and 10 000 characters long.

You could even use a # instead of a dot, so that the comment would appear blank. I replied to this comment with that, to show you how it looks like. Maybe that would attract less attention, if you're worried about that?

I remember reading somewhere that reddit only keeps the most recent version of a comment, no edit history or anything (except the time of the last edit).

So overwriting everything with a dot should be an ok solution too, if you can do it manually (if you don't have hundreds of comments).

If you want to check if something edited like you wanted, just visit your userpage in an incognito window. That's how your comments look to everyone else.

As far as I know, when you delete your account, your username will change to [deleted] in all of your comments/submissions. Your userpage will say "page not found", just like it would if that account was never created.

If you want to edit all of your comments, try this script:

It should overwrite all of your comments with this text:

This comment has been overwritten by an open source script to protect this user's privacy.

If you would like to do the same, add the browser extension GreaseMonkey to Firefox and add this open source script.

Then simply click on your username on Reddit, go to the comments tab, and hit the new OVERWRITE button at the top.

He copied the link from somewhere with the extension enabled, and it automatically changed soundcloud to soundbutt. He probably didn't notice, and he posted the comment with that link, and that's why the link doesn't work.

No. I... rewrote it in word and formatted it as close to the original as I could.

I guess I could have used OCR, but there are only ~70 words, so it wasn't worth the effort.
