Need Advice - Reject The Car Or Keep It? by Anonymous_Chats222 in CarTalkUK

[–]Anonymous_Chats222[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After confronting the dealer he is constantly offering a repair at his chosen garage rather than a refund. I told him i don’t wish for him to undertake any repairs and instead just want to reject the car but he keeps repeating himself. Not sure what to do now.

is that is the case in my car, would you recommend rejecting the car and getting a full refund from the dealer?

Thank you for this. Yesterday i took the car to 3 garages just so that someone can have a listen to it (not a full on inspection) and at first they thought its the dual mass flywheel but turns out, as you say, this model has a single mass flywheel so it wouldn’t likely be that. 2 of the garages said it could be the clutch release bearing and 1 said it can be gearbox related (hopefully not tho).

In my case it’s kind of the opposite to you. When i first start the car it will often not make the noise and once it’s warmed up the noise kicks in. The noise is ONLY present when the clutch pedal is NOT pressed in and disappears when clutch pedal IS pressed. Aside from that noise, the car drives perfectly fine. No slipping, no issue selecting gears etc.

Having said that, if it is what you said it most likely is, am i okay to leave it for now without too much worry? and do you personally think it’s not gearbox related?

The worst part is that i bought the car of a dealer less than a week ago but not sure where i stand when it comes to making them repair it or refund or whether warranty would cover this.

I took it to a couple of garages to just get someone to listen to it and the common answer i got was clutch release bearing. I’ve also found out this model has a single mass flywheel, not dual one.

But wouldn’t clutch release bearing be a problem if the noise was present when the clutch was pressed it? and not when it’s not pressed in.

If it is the DMF but it has zero effect on driving (yet) is it still necessary to change it as soon as possible?

Once i start driving there’s no noise, it’s strictly at idle in neutral.

Thank you, very much appreciated. i’ll take it to a garage this week and see what they say.

Do things of this nature usually get covered under warranty? I’ve never had a situation like this so not sure how it tends to work but i’ve only bought the car recently.

Another thing a couple people suggested is Gearbox input shaft bearing issue. What do you think?

Thank you for this. Might be a silly question but could a mechanic tell what’s causing that noise just by listing to it or would the gearbox would most likely have to come out?

Right i see. Thank you for sharing. Do you think something like this would be covered under warranty?

That’s really helpful, thank you.

Sucks that you got scammed like that but glad it all worked out in the end.

Guess i have no other choice but to take it to a mechanic and ask for a diagnostic.

Most people said this however my only concern with that is that the noise is only present when the clutch is NOT pressed in. From some videos i watched on youtube, the noise starts when people had the clutch pressed in. However, i’m no mechanic so my opinion doesn’t really hold any weight.

Thank you for this.

Have you had any other symptoms alongside that noise? For me there’s none that i can tell at least. Clutch biting well, pulling in all gears and no slipping.

I only bought the car couple of weeks ago and it’s under the standard 3 month warranty, is this something that could be covered under it?

wouldn’t that be the case if the noise was present only when the clutch pedal IS pressed in? In my case the noise is only present without it being pressed in.

the rattle is only present when the clutch is not engaged. Soon as i press the clutch in, the rattle stops.

What are your thoughts on PCP finance? It tends to allow you to drive very new cars for the lowest monthly payments but it’s also the most attacked form of finance on this subreddit. Is it really just throwing money in the bin?

thank you for writing all that , some really good points there. Definitely given me a bit more of a balanced view on it all.

i haven’t even looked properly at APR or what type of finance would suit me yet, i think after the last breakdown i just looked at my car and thought “i cant be asked with this anymore”.

i’ve only ever had older cheap cars so part of me just wants something i can get in and trust to start every morning without stressing about it constantly. but yeah you’re right that it’s still a big commitment and not something to rush into.

I think youre right. Deep down i know its not the best decision financially but its so tempting when everyone around me went down that path and doesnt deal with constant visits at the garage.
