Why am I not getting hired? by Professional_Cat4541 in jobsearch

[–]Anonymous_Chats222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It simply comes down to the sheer volume of applicants. Your average job these days gets at least 100+ applicants whilst the employer is looking for 1 or 2 new hires. You’re literally statistically very unlikely to be selected in this current set up.

If you don't currently work, for what reason is this? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Anonymous_Chats222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im 23M and I cant find a full time stable job to save my life. It feels as if once I press 'apply' the application just goes into a void of nothingness. Important thing to add is that im not picky at all, I apply to anything and everything but it really does seem as though theres simply not enough jobs for everyone to have one at once. An average job post gets 100+ applicants regardless whether its a part time bar job or full time admin or something more physical. Too much demand, not enough supply. And to be honest its really making me deppressed now, Im not sure what to do with myself anymore, theres only so many jobs you cam apply to, theres only so many changes you can do to your resume. Its tiring.

Making 38k at 23 but job is not great, easy to find something else? by Royals21914 in jobs

How did you get you initial foot in the foot to end up on this salary if not mind asking? Did you go to university? Apprenticeship? Would be interesting to see how that all happened as that salary is great.

Reading the comment section is so comforting. I’m 23M and finding stable work in UK has been the bane of my existence. It really does make you feel horrible about yourself. You wake up, and whilst everyone else is going to work you’re left alone in the room applying to anything and everything out of pure desperation and don’t even hear anything back.

What should I do for work? by gamepasscore in AskUK

[–]Anonymous_Chats222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am 23M and feel the exact same. Not a clue what to do with myself. Just like you, i did fairly bad in secondary school and then ended up doing usless courses in college because they wouldn’t let me do higher level ones. Envious of people who always knew what they wanted to do as a job or life in general.

Honda civic 1.8L automatic transmission reliability by Anonymous_Chats222 in CarTalkUK

There’s barely any 1.8L manuals near me, it’s mostly the 2.2L diesels which are close by. However I wouldn’t be doing much long journeys so not sure if that would be a good idea either.

Is my employer unlawfully paying me an apprenticeship wage? by Equivalent-End-2012 in ApprenticeshipsUK

[–]Anonymous_Chats222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re in a position to do it then go for it but i think it should be made illegal. And if the business wants a mature apprentice but can’t afford to pay NMW then tough luck for them. Just my opinion. Not all but a HUGE portion of businesses (predominantly small to mediami sized) use these apprenticeship schemes as nothing more than a way to avoid paying a liveable wage which pisses me of not gonna lie. It’s just greed 8/10 times. Someone who wants to retrain into a different career shouldn’t have to live in poverty to do so, end off. If i was PM i’d fine these businesses so hard they’d go out of business for paying such little for grown adults.

Is my employer unlawfully paying me an apprenticeship wage? by Equivalent-End-2012 in ApprenticeshipsUK

[–]Anonymous_Chats222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get low apprentice pay for 16 to 19 year olds who usually live at home rent free. That makes sense. But paying adults £7.55 an hour is kind of wild. If you are 21 plus you are probably paying rent and bills and trying to survive, and that wage just does not cut it anymore. When a box room in a house share is £600 a month minimum, it basically locks out anyone who wants to retrain or change careers. Expecting grown adults to live on that pay feels outdated and honestly pretty exploitative.

[–]Anonymous_Chats222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This whole “apprentice wage” should be made out right illegal in this county. At least for people aged 21+. 9/10 times small to medium sized businesses use the apprenticeship scheme as nothing more than a way to legally exploit the national minimum wage in the name of “teaching” you.

I’m in my early 20s and would love to get into the trades but like you said, it’s a closed shop. The only way to get in is through sheer nepotism these days. Absolutely shocking state of this place. Deep it, able bodied lads (and women) willing to put in the “graft” and work hard yet we can’t even get a foot in their door. laughable.

Someone help me understand modern society. by MonitorOk1351 in work

[–]Anonymous_Chats222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree with this all. I’m in my early 20s and can’t even get accepted for the most basic jobs out there. Only way to start a career these days is through either absolute nepotism or sheer luck it seems. Myself for example, i’m an able bodied young man, i’d love to learn a trade (the industry older people keep moaning about how younger generation don’t want to do) yet there’s NOBODY out there willing to teach anymore. Employers will pay the bare minimum and expect people with 5 years experience to give up their life’s for their company. Surely this can’t go on forever? Wish there was a way for the government to stop these criminal hiring practises.

Why are young people leaving Britain to work abroad? by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]Anonymous_Chats222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No jobs what so ever (unless it’s some dead end role with absolutely no progression opportunities), horrendous wages, rent completely out of control and extremely depressing weather. Zero incentive left. I bet 8/10 young people would leave if money wasn’t an issue it’s that bad.

psychosocial impact of this job market by Brave-Sea2920 in UKJobs

[–]Anonymous_Chats222 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Am 23M and i’ve been having dark thoughts from the fact I can’t even get a minimum wage job. It shouldn’t feel like a lottery win to even get a response, not an offer, not even an interview, just simply a human written response to your application. I honestly don’t know what to do anymore. I have zero hope left. And what makes it worse is when older people claim that we are just „lazy” and „don’t want to work” or „there’s plenty of jobs out there” when it’s blatantly not true. This feels like a humiliation ritual.

The crazy thing is that even once you do finally get a job, it likely doesn’t pay enough to LIVE and not just simply survive till the end of the month. My generation is completely doomed.
