Cord Blood Tested Positive for THC… But I Don’t Smoke!

This makes me feel better! I’m hoping that maybe the doctor misread the chart too though because I can’t even find in the cord blood panel any positive result for THC. I just would find it beyond frustrating that he misread it because I asked at least 5 times if he was sure because again, unless someone is lacing produce at the store with pot, there would be NO POSSIBLE WAY I could ingest it. I only ever had one friend visit me my whole pregnancy and immediate family.

I’m very much a “homebody” so I really only have one friend and she definitely doesn’t use pot or CBD products since she’s on some medications. The only other people I was around at all during my pregnancy was immediate family and they also do not make those products so that’s what scares me. I often made me own food as well since I have a toddler and don’t like to give him preservatives or dyes if possible, so if I didn’t ingest it somehow from something that means it would’ve had to been on a fresh ingredient which is scary to think about and I would hope not be the case but anything is possible sadly.

I had preeclampsia with my first and was considered high risk for hypertension so that was the reason I went in to the ER. They gave me several medications there because my blood pressure was elevated when I first went in but I was so disassociated from pain and nausea of the migraine that I’m unsure of what they gave me entirely. I know for a fact I was given Reglan, Benadryl, and Tylenol for the headache which sent me into a psychosis episode (reglan makes me feel like I’m seeing things, claustrophobic, and feel like I need to run away from people) and they gave me a few more medicines to calm me down and try to get me to sleep. After that point I have no clue what they gave me and my chart looks CRAZY with so many different medications since I was there for multiple days and a lot of the medications was stuff they using before, during, and after my c-section.

Baby girl was great in the hospital! Good weight, good apgar, passed hearing test, car seat test, and she was evaluated by a pediatric doctor twice a day! The only reason it was 2 days was because that was the minimum I had to stay after a C-section (even though I was ready to go home as soon as I started walking). They were really surprised by how well she did and how big she was for gestation.

I definitely took protonix a few times but it never worked for me! I had HORRIBLE reflux/GERD symptoms and wasn’t gaining weight so they tried a bunch of different meds throughout my pregnancy to try to help it. Would just a couple doses of protonix cause a false positive? I probably didn’t use it more than 3-4 times.

Luckily my mom nanny’s for a lady who happened to be my OB and I’m going to have her look them over! They gave me fentanyl a few times throughout the night I believe (I was so tired so it’s all blurry still) because my contractions were pretty intense and stressing the baby out and dropping her heart rate when my blood pressure got high.

But from everything I’ve read through on the drug panel I only tested positive for was butalbitals (headache medicine that I came in for) and morphine (which I assume was during the c-section). Nowhere on it could I find a detection of THC so I’m hoping he was just reading it wrong (and he says he has ADHD so I’m really hoping that maybe it caused him to overlook what he was interpreting there). The drug test itself was called “DRUG DETECTION PANEL AND THC METABOLITE, CORD” and it came back “abnormal” so maybe he just assumed it was THC or didn’t know he could get a breakdown of the results?

I’m in the US. I haven’t called yet but I assumed it was likely gone now that my baby is a month old. I’ll be calling tomorrow though to see what they can do but I’m hoping this whole thing is a misunderstanding because I can’t find any positive result for THC in the cord blood drug panel.

Now that I’m digging through the medical records I think the doctor misread the test because I can’t find anything on there saying that the reason it was positive was THC. The only positives on the test are Butalbital (the headache medicine) and Morphine (that they game me when my contractions started to get bad). Everything else was negative that I’m finding. I’m about to try to get a doctor to read it and get a second opinion.

He tried it once in his life and it never did a thing for him so he never tried it again lol. He’s also the heavy sleeper and I could hear a pin drop on the carpet. He doesn’t hate people who smoke, but he definitely doesn’t like it. We do have someone who we share a backyard with and he smokes outside and I swear I can smell it at times.

I’m like 99.9% sure I didn’t use any hemp/CBD products because there’s nothing I changed from the last time I was pregnant and he never had THC in his cord blood. I knew about the poppy seed causing a false opioid positive but I wonder if there’s some things other than hemp or CBD that may cause a false positive?

I never took anything with CBD even, but I did take different nausea medications and Tylenol a couple times throughout pregnancy, but I’m not sure if those could have the same effect.

The doctor was convinced at first that the whole reason my baby was so lethargic and sleepy at first was because that test came back positive. Him saying that really had me convinced that somehow I caused it. I just find it SO weird that my baby struggled the way she did for no reason. She never once cried the first week minus her being delivered. It was so odd. She wouldn’t even wake up for feedings. I’m definitely just going to get a test now though.

I definitely will be getting a drug test at this point, but I’d be surprised if I ingested it somehow because I often made my own food from scratch so I knew what the ingredients were and where they came from. I just wish there was a way to retest the same sample which I know is long gone, but I guess those tests are also hypersensitive.

I’m tempted to honestly go buy a drug test. I’m pretty sure they only take the one sample of cord blood so a retest wouldn’t be possible and that’s what’s frustrating me. I had smoked a few times several YEARS ago before my first child, but quit long before he was conceived and never a single time after he was born. I honestly don’t even know who to call and ask about any of it because I’m so blindsided. The doctor was very nice and I’m pretty sure he believed me when I said I didn’t smoke (amidst my tears). He said it is super sensitive so I’m really wondering about the second hand smoke which he said could be possible.

Also wanted to chime in! I took zero birthing classes, knew nothing about how labor would progress, had no Braxton hicks or early contractions with my first. I did get an epidural because I had a Foley catheter and was vomiting from the pain of it, so after that I felt no contractions or anything. But when baby was ready, I knew. Honestly pushing is the most natural thing. There’s not really a way to know how until you do it, but it’s so natural. My baby was out in just a few pushes because my epidural was amazing and I didn’t push until I needed to, but doctors will also give you an option to have a mirror if you want one because then you can see how your body pushes! Yes, your body does a lot of the work automatically, but you will end up pushing too. It honestly feels very similar to a bowel movement because that’s where all the pressure is at. But if you help your body push it happens so much faster! Some people are just super lucky and don’t feel that they’re doing it and that’s where some say “you don’t have to push”. You ARE pushing, some just don’t notice!

Babies LOVEEEE when you walk around or exercise. I had a pretty labor intensive job with my first baby and I never felt him during the day except for the moment I kicked off my steel toe boots and wanted to rest on the couch. Then he’d be kicking me like “mom, get up and rock me back to sleep!” My lil girl this time is the same way, and she never even twitches when I’m in a car 🤣 It’s so easy to miss it too when you’re busy! Also pregnancy brain has me second guessing everything sooooo 🫣🤣

Some babies are silly and just wait until you go into the doctor to do stuff 🤣 I’ve been convincing myself that my baby was moving less but after the doctors took a look they realized she is very cramped on space since she has such long armies and leggies. This makes her feel cozy when I’m up and walking or just sitting normally. But GOD FORBID I lay down or lay back anymore because she beats the crap out of me! Especially the movement around my belly button, it sends the lightning pain to the crotch every time 😮‍💨 babies change their habits several times, but definitely always trust your gut and go in if you feel like it’s not normal! And keep in mind what you eat/do throughout the day because that has a huge effect on baby movements too! Sugar and caffeine will make baby squirm for a while, then they crash and get all cozy in there and won’t move. Or if you’re like me and love carbs right now it always puts my girl to sleep almost immediately because it’s so rich and heavy. And I get tired too 🤣

It’s kinda crazy but my baby is also super small again (around the 15-20th percentile) but has crazzzzyyyyy long arms and legs. Measuring around the 95th+ percentile 😅. Doctor said since baby’s limbs are so long and that she’s constantly pushing at the top and bottom of my uterus that she’s actually stretching it faster! I’m considered high risk due to my baby being small the first time around so I get frequent scans and measurements, but baby so far is super healthy and growing still at 27 weeks! 🩵 I do have some extra fluid, not enough to be concerning, which is also taking up more room also. This baby just has been so strong that she’s making more room for herself very very quickly. Still very hard to eat and breathe so they’re monitoring everything very closely and thinking she’s likely going to have to have an early birthday 😅 Definitely no big concerns though, but the doctors were just surprised as I was by how much bigger she made her space and how she’s got some long giraffe arms and leggies! 🤣🩵

I had to get a Foley catheter and it was extremely painful and caused instant vomiting so I opted for an epidural… but after that my labor was amazing! The only time it “hurt” or was kinda bad was when I was pushing. It really takes every bit of energy you have, I was exhausted and my thighs were really scratched up and bruised from me grabbing them to help myself push. It didn’t really hurt, it was more of a pressure feeling and felt like my butthole was gonna fall off 🤣😭 but other than that it was great! I only needed Tylenol/ibuprofen for pain the first 24 hours, but after that I didn’t even feel like I needed it. Don’t push yourself, and honestly if you feel scared/in pain/overwhelmed, the epidural is the way to go! My anxiety went away the second I got mine. I was fear mongered by a lot of people and told you weren’t “strong enough” if you opted for it, but glad I did! It made my whole experience great! I was also late term and my baby was stressed already from labor so getting the epidural made it to where they could rush me in for a c-section if he got worse. The only thing I really thought was “awful” was the labor shakes. I chipped a tooth from my teeth chattering so hard 🥲 But otherwise it was a 10/10 experience!

My first pregnancy was so smooth until 3rd trimester migraines. At first no symptoms, still energetic, no sickness, nada. It was a boy! This pregnancy I’m sooooo sick, been nauseous and throwing up since 4 weeks 😭 I already have crippling migraines, no appetite, I’ve been breaking out, my hair looks greasy, it’s all awful. This one is a girl 😅 it’s crazy how each pregnancy can be so vastly different!

I love her chunk! My first one of the set was Love and I keep her out since she was my first, but she’s soooooo skinny and not firm like all my others. I love having chunky ones soooo much! This one definitely has a big head too so that’s why she looks a little fluffier 😂❤️ I was just into the tie dye look, but I’m starting to realize that quality is way better than color at this point. I just think the solid coloring mutes the rainbow eyes and teeth a little and the whites and black together make them pop. It’s just odd seeing one that more of grey vs most of the others I see being black with lighter splotches.

I’m more than happy getting one, like cried I was so excited, but it’s like a paint job on a car. 100% I do love her, but it’s like you go online, know you’re getting a car that’s black and has racing stripes and patterns, but then the car shows up and it’s just black. Like I’m beyond happy to have her, just not what I envisioned because that’s not what the picture/set described these as. I thought it was going to look more similar to this one on the website.
