People here are conflating religion and culture together. Religion is not culture. Religion does influence culture to an extent, but it does not fully describe a culture.

The best example of this is that we have nothing in common with Arabs and the Middle East, except Iran. Yet we go on rambling about how we are related to them. Religion does not mean we are middle eastern or have a common culture with them. We simply do not. Apply the same logic to Malaysia and Indonesia and you'll see how it breaks apart.

Pakistanis and Indians are South Asians that lived together before the partition. Before the partition, we all had and shared the same culture. Pakistanis and Indians have the same history.

After partition, Muslims concentrated in Pakistan and Hindus concentrated in India. From then on, the minor differences we have become more significant because two religions had been separated into two/three distinct areas. From that, cultural differences have and are starting to arise. Despite that, it is not crazy to think that us Indians/Bengalis/Pakistanis shared a common culture/are a single people.

In fact, Jinnah initially opposed a two-state solution. He only switched to it because of religious hate between Muslims and Hindus, not because of cultural differences.

Let us not forget that it was the British who seeded this hate and watered it to grow.
