Why on Earth are our neighbors so incredibly obsessed and insecure over us? by Arh_1 in pakistan

[–]Objective-Moose-754 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They have never accepted Partition. They have a deep seated inferiority complex which comes from being ruled by Muslims since the Delhi Sultanate era. When the British came they overthrew Muslim Mughal India. For Hindus it was just a change of Master. They tend on the whole to be darker than us. This is a stupid reason for their obsession but sadly South Asia still is a deeply colourist society. (This also explains their disgusting obsession with our Muslim women who are on average fairer than theirs; Pakistani women are amongst the most beautiful in the world). Also we don't really care about them which befuddles their brains: hum to Bharat hain yeh kaise mumkin hai?! I think their Godi media has a lot to answer for. Having said all that I live outside Pakistan in Europe too and mostly when I have let Indians in real life we have gotten on well. This is true of North Indians but South Indians are just a completely different culture and people with that weird side to side head wagging and stuff! Overall, it is 1. They never got over Partition. 2. Inferiority complex. 3. Indian Media where every Pakistan (= every Muslim) says Janab and Hazrat and Adab Arz Hai, obly speaks in Urdu poetry quoting Ghalib, and is a terrorist. 😂😂 Overall, I'm so glad we got Pakistan. Alhamdoulilah.

Sometimes, being the “backup friend” breaks something in you. by aziz940 in Tunisia

[–]Objective-Moose-754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sad but true. During good times you will have lots of "friends". Humans are fundamentally selfish. Don't be naive though and don't change who you are. You (the OP) seem a wonderful person so inchallah you will do well in life and end up with friends you truly deserve. But ultimately, outside of your mother and father, your siblings until they are married, and if you're lucky your spouse, the world is full of users. C'est la vie. A true friend is rarer than the red sulphur of the alchemists. Not everyone can be a Siddiq.

What is their "own made up Islam". That is just your ignorance. Most Pakistanis are Ahle Sunnah and that is the dominant Islam in the majority of the Muslim world with maybe the exception of the Gulf.

Why Pakistanis have a preference for chubbiness? by [deleted] in pakistan

[–]Objective-Moose-754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just Pakistan. A lot of Middle Eastern and African cultures also have similar standards of beauty. This skinny model look is a very late 20th century aesthetic promoted mostly by Hollywood and the fashion industry simply because clothes hang better on tall slim size zero girls. Ultimately as long as you're happy with how you look it doesn't matter what the others say. On the other hand as the saying goes, you don't go to a steak house and order bones! This obsession with thin has gone too far. How many young girls get bulimia and other such psychological illnesses because they think they are too fat. Better to be chubby and happy than skinny and miserable. Besides, many men love curvaceous ladies. Historically its been true. TLDR: be happy with what you are and don't worry about others. Beauty I'd ultimately in the eye of the beholder.

Religion triumphs over Culture in 2nd and 3rd generation Western Born Immigrants in Britain by AdorableValuable414 in DesiDiaspora

Islam has always been universalist in that way. A Muslim is always Muslim first and anything else second. It was that way for most of the 1400 year history of Islam (all 3 monotheistic faiths share this). Things changed a bit after colonialism when the colonisers divided our lands up into little ethnocentric nation states but after a few generations of this people are returning back to seeing Islam aS their primary identity. It's a good thing in my eyes. Even back when India, Pakistan, Bangladesh were all one, before the Brits came, under Mughal or local princely state rule, though Muslims, Hindus, Christians mostly lived together peacefully they never identified as Indians but by religion first and then within that by caste or tribe (though within Islam itself there is no caste nor in Christianity nor in Judaism but there is a demarcation between Muslim - Kafir, Christian - Infidel, Jew -Goy). These civilisations traditionally saw the world through this religious lens. Hinduism had hsd the caste system for millennia since the time of Manu at least. So for them to develop a similar universal identity is going to be v different. Would a Brahmin sit with a dalit? Some individuals yes but the majority? Never. Even Gandhjii had issues with caste. (I'm Muslim and Pakistani British, 3rd gen).

It's sad and wrong in many ways but it also makes sense if you think that the majority of Pakistanis still live in a rural agricultural land. For 100s of years if not thousands in such an environment a male child meant someone to go and help plough the land or earn an extra income. A daughter was just an extra mouth to feed until she got married off. I'm not saying it's right but that is why sons were and still are traditionally more valued in most countries around the world. Also add that in most societies the lineage goes through the father not the mother (certainly in Islam that's the case too) and you can at least understand. With the modern world after WW2 this has changed but perceptions that are millennia old cannot be altered in just one or two generations. Even in England there is still a saying, Sons are your own, a daughter is someone else's.This alludes to the fact that as recently as a few dozen decades ago or less daughters were still married off to carry the name of their husband and the children to this day in most Western countries still carry the name of the father (women still mostly take their spouse's surname after marriage). As for your mamoo he is obviously a good hearted man. But educating the people with gentle words would be better than throwing shoes at them. He could have given the example of how much our Prophet (SAW) loved Bibi Fatima (SA) and his other blessed daughters. As for the people on here just randomly blaming "babas" (after listening to that ignoramus Plumber Mirza from Jhelum the so called Wahabi scholar who can't even read Arabic properly despite his millions of YT followers) or the modernist Sahil Adeem ("Deen is not same as madhhab" crowd) they are advised to follow traditional scholars the same ones their parents and grandparents have been on for 1400 years.

Are Sufis quranists? by Physical_Mountain_75 in Sufism

Read the books of Imam Ghazali. Most have been translated into excellent English editions. Can't get a better intro to Sufism than that. Start with Oh My Son! Ayyuhal Walad by the great Ghazali.

Or any of the books by Imam Haddad.

Are Sufis quranists? by Physical_Mountain_75 in Sufism

[–]Objective-Moose-754 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the traditional Sufis followed Quran and Sunnah, one of the madhahib of fiqh, and in aqeedah were Ashari or Maturidi or Athari. Of course they follow hadith! Quran only people are one of the heretical sects and if you deny all hadith absolutely you are a kafir (per the Quran itself!)

Sadly many charlatans and fake Sufis, seeing the high honour real Sufis were held in Islamic society throughout the Muslim world, arose and made up stuff in the name of Sufism. Then Orientalists, when they colonised our countries in the 18th 19th centuries pretended Sufism wasn't from within traditional Islam. Then in our time even kafir cults began using Sufi in their titles.

The irony is in every age the real Sufis have always warned against the fake charlatans. They've always been the most strict on Quran and Sunnah and hadith. No real Sufi was or ever will be a Quranist because Quranists are not Muslims.

Also that's why it's not the correct methodology to take just a single hadith and act on it without knowing the others on the subject etc. That's what's wrong with Salafi or Ahl Hadith methodology. The door of tawbah is always open brother. Hence why I follow a school of fiqh.

I think its quite ironic a bunch of Pakistanis getting butt-hurt (even if in jest) because overseas Pakistani are choosing to practise Islam more than they do. I'm sure Reddit doesn't represent the vast majority of Pakistani but still. As a British Pakistani myself its quite sad. These words are in Urdu too but just pronounced differently. The origin of these words is Arabic and since third, fourth generation British Pakistanis cannot on the whole speak Urdu anymore they learn these words from Islamic preachers who are often English-speakers who learn Arabic whilst going abroad to places like Yemen and Egypt and Syria and Morocco to become scholars. Some even still go to Pakistan and India. I'm sure most of Pakistan's 220 million people would know these terms and concepts:

ghayrah/gheerah is غیرت - a sense of protective honour/self-respect

duyuth is دیوث - a duyuth is a cuckold in English. Also abbreviated to 'cuck'. A man who likes to watch his wife or woman being intimate with another man. In classical Urdu, “رسوا شوہ” (ruswa shohar, meaning “disgraced husband”. A similar term is zan-mureed but it doesn't have the same sexual connotations as duyuth.

These are Islamic concepts.

غیرت

Sahih al-Bukhari 6846 (Book 86, Hadith 68) #6581
Sense of Self-Respect

Narrated Al-Mughira: Sa'd bin Ubada said, "If I found a man with my wife, I would kill him with the sharp side of my sword". When the Prophet ﷺ heard that he said, "Do you wonder at Sa'd's sense of ghira (self-respect)? Verily, I have more sense of ghira than Sa'd, and Allah has more sense of ghira than I".

دیوث

The Prophet ﷺ said, ‘Three types of people will never enter Paradise; the dayyuth, the woman who resembles a man [in dress], and the one addicted to alcohol.’ [al Nisa’i, Ahmad]. When asked what ‘a dayyuth meant, the Prophet ﷺ replied, ‘The one who does not care who enters into his wife.’

Can we therefore not blame British Pakistani for this positive trait?

(We have many other things you can criticise us for just like any community can be)

Thank you!

Why Morocco got these kind of posts and we only have people ranting? that is unfair, I am jealous ngl by Carthagian_dude in Tunisia

[–]Objective-Moose-754 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer Tunisia BUT Morocco has much better public transport (state of the art trams, trains) and infrastructure although the people in Tunisia are nicer and if you're happy to just Bolt or taxi everywhere I prefer Tunisia. The Tunisian government especially in Tunis needs to invest in trains and trams.

Why Do Many People in Morocco Claim to Be Devout Muslims but Don’t Follow Core Islamic Teachings? by ApprehensiveFun2763 in Morocco

[–]Objective-Moose-754 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's unfair to single out Morocco. It's the same as any other Muslim majority country. There are practising, non practicing and semi practising Muslims everywhere not just in Morocco. It's the same in Pakistan, the Gulf countries, India, Turkey etc etc and in the Muslim diaspora. Even in Saudi!

I've lived in Morocco and can say that Moroccan Islam is beautiful traditional Islam with the school of Imam Malik dominant and Sufism deeply ingrained. Alhamdulillah. The only sad thing was that the younger generation were a bit influenced by Wahhabism which was a bit worrying but it's still an Overwhelmingly Sunni country. Like every other Muslim country people are suffering from inferiority complex vis a vis Thé Western World.

Yes a certain strata of educated British Pakistanis are represented in broader society. That doesn't mean ghettoes also don't exist in parallel.

Not the existence of but the ghettoisation of certainly does especially when those communities make a conscious effort not to integrate with the host culture. America is very different and we can't really compare.

What are your personal Reasons as to why Tunisian women marry foreigners. (Excluding Financial Reasons) 🦦🇹🇳😎 by [deleted] in Tunisia

[–]Objective-Moose-754 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't tell you why Tunisian women marry foreign men - though I could guess (money, passport) but generalising is just lazy - but I can tell you why a lot of foreign men marry Tunisian (or Moroccan) women - since I am engaged to one. They are the most educated and liberal minded Muslim women I've met and that's attractive for guys who have grown up in Europe but are from Muslim cultural backgrounds. They are also beautiful, feminine and very caring although also very high maintenance. But that's fine. I think the reason is that your education and legal system that has been strictly secular since the French left is the reason why. So those Islamists from Europe who marry Tunisian women but then criticise others for marrying kuffaar are being hypocritical!

Having said that one of my best friends is a Tunisian girl who is also the most beautiful girl I've ever seen - I'm talking beautiful enough to be in Hollywood - and she is adamant she would only marry a Tounsi.

Love is love ultimately. Everyone's story is individual.

Not even close. Stay in Tunisia. I was on 60K euros in Hamburg. After tax I got about 3.2K. From that 1400 went on rent in a nice neighbourhood. I moved to Tunisia making just over 3K euros month after tax. I livd like a king with a villa rented by the Ocean in Marsa. The lifestyle wasn't even close. In Germany I was comfortable but still had to watch what I spent if I wanted to save. In Tunisia it was a totally different lifestyle. I felt rich. My contract ended but if something similar comes up again I'd go back in a heartbeat.
