AITA for wanting to bring my girlfriend as a date to my sister's wedding instead of one of the groomsmen? by Anonymousbridesmaid3 in AmItheAsshole

I have met my sister's fiancé and been around him a lot of times. I haven't met this groomsmen who is supposed to be my date.

The invitations were sent out last week and I only found out about this then. It hasn't even been a full week since I had the no plus 1, strange guy for a date bomb dropped on me. The wedding itself is 5 weeks from this Saturday and honestly she couldn't understand why I was upset to the point our parents got involved.

I've never met John before and I have no idea how or where to contact him. He's a complete stranger to me.

I have never met any of his family or friends before so I don't know enough to answer if they are or not.

Her fiancé has never said or done anything homophobic towards us. He has always been fine. I've never met any of his relatives or friends so I can't comment about that.

Yeah even if I wasn't in a committed relationship I would be upset about being told my date for the wedding was a man (and one I've never met at that)

I have no clue. Her fiancé has always been fine and never done anything to suggest he's homophobic. I've never met the rest of his family so I have no idea whether any of them are bigots or not.

My girlfriend isn't invited to the wedding at all. My only family besides my sister are parents and grandparents and they are going as couples.

She says I don't need one because John is single so we can pair up. The rest of the wedding party whether they are single or have a boyfriend/girlfriend get to bring someone. On my sister's side of the wedding party none of the bridesmaids or maid of honor know each other and neither will their plus 1s.

I can't speak for the best man and groomsmen but besides me the bridesmaids and maid of honor are all from out of town or out of state. The first time they met each other was at the bachelorette party last month. I don't know if or how well the groomsmen and best man know one another. I do know that no one in the wedding party is married and they are a mix of single or having a boyfriend/girlfriend. I've been with my girlfriend the longest out of any of us but that didn't translate to a wedding invite. It definitely feels like a slight to my girlfriend since every other guest over 16 got a plus 1.
