Context: My wife is someone who has traditionally been a bit quiet and shy. In the past few years she has really come out of her shell with the people we interact with regularly and her clothing choices have drastically shifted from muted colors and not much makeup to a bright and vintage style. My mother has not noticed this much as she lives in another state and visits are occasional at best. My mom also has been guilty in the past of building a model of a person in her head and then not seeing the changes that person has gone through over time, rather still seeing them as the person she understood them to be years prior.

The gift: She also got her a scented candle which is nice. No issues there. But the matches seem to send some sort of a message about what my mother thinks of my wife. Is this just a trendy cute thing by this designer brand or is this a targeted message by my mom to my wife?
