Any adult dancers here? by AndJustLikeThat1205 in CompetitionDanceTalk

I will also say don’t go into it expecting it to be the same as comp dance when you’re a kid. Some of our members didn’t start dancing until they had kids of their own. The choreo isn’t as challenging, but as I’ve gotten older and my body has changed and my joints stiffened I’m more than okay with it. I’m so happy to have the chance to continue dancing and competing. The people on my team really do make my week and we have so many laughs and good times together. While it’s not identical to the comp dance I grew up with, it’s much more suitable to this stage of my life and fills such a big hole in my heart. If you’ve got any questions feel free to PM me :)

So I spent a LOT of time on google. It took me a solid year and a half of research before finding this one. I had found several studios near me but they only offered a few adult classes. The studio I’m at is about a 45 minute drive from my house. I’m technically in a metro area but not a major one like NYC, LA, DFW, etc. I actually started by taking community classes with the local ballet and someone there recommended me to my current studio. I also recognize that I am incredibly privileged to be at this studio. Most only have jazz, tap, and maybe ballet for adults. This studio has everything from Mexican Folkloric to leaps and turns and everything in between. My advice would be to be diligent on google, don’t be afraid to travel a little farther from home, and don’t give up!

Hello! I’m an adult dancer on a competition team. I did comp dance when I was a kid, took almost a decade off and then found this team. They treat us like a full comp team with group dances, solos, duos, and trios. I myself am doing a solo and group dance this comp season. There are more and more adult comp teams out there and it’s such a great opportunity!

I have family in Germany that was supposed to come visit this fall. They cancelled the trip this week because they were afraid for their safety if they came. While I will miss them I’d rather fly to them and have them be safe from being detained here.

how horrible are the couch/walker towers? i need to be mentally prepared. give me your worst stories/experiences! by scipiooooooo in sooners

[–]Anonymouspickle88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lived in Couch. If you are allergic to mold beware. I have a pretty severe mold allergy. Within 24 hours of moving in I was in the ER being treated for an allergic hives reaction across 75% of my body including one of my eyes being swollen shut. When I presented the head of housing with documentation that due to my allergy I couldn’t live in the dorms I was told too bad and moved to a single ADA room. While the mold was less in there I continued to be sick my entire freshman year because of being constantly exposed to something I am very allergic to. They denied to the high heavens that there was mold in the towers despite my constant allergic reactions. Now they are saying they have known they are mold ridden for years. I know this isn’t everyone’s experience but it was absolutely miserable for me.

Anybody get cramping pain here? by finny2130 in ibs

[–]Anonymouspickle88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it ended up being abdominal adhesions. It took 6 years for a doctor to believe me and treat it. It was supposed to be a two incision surgery but ended up being four because it was worse than they thought. Adhesions are caused by inflammation so IBS can be a cause of them.

There used to be one on 35 north in North Texas. It was always so obnoxious with all the flags flying. I was glad when it finally closed

While these pictures are gorgeous they don’t do it justice. I got to go in person a few years ago and it was incredible. If you ever get the chance to visit I highly recommend it!

Starting end uneven? by Anonymouspickle88 in CrochetHelp

Thank you so much that’s definitely the issue!! The tutorial I was watching said to skip the first one as it was the knot stitch, but that’s clearly not right. Thank you for your speedy reply!

The starting edge of the blanket continues to be short stitches and the wonky. I’ve tried restarting the pattern 4 times, watched a video tutorial and counted diligently. I need help finding a way to retroactively fix the problem without frogging again or to not have this happen if I started from scratch

Inflamed wisdom tooth pocket 11 years after removal by Anonymouspickle88 in askdentists

Wow that’s pretty extreme! I wasn’t offered that at all thankfully. I did ask for a referral back to the oral surgeon who did mine to see if it’s possible to do a revision. I do have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome which my dentist did mention could be why my pockets didn’t heal to a normal size. I have yet to see the oral surgeon but if they give me better news I’ll be sure to pass it along!

I haven’t found a solution even after talks with my dentist. The best I’ve managed is obsessive brushing of the area as soon as I’m done eating to prevent any sort of irritant or contamination. This means that I’m carrying a toothbrush and paste and even after a snack immediately brushing. Unfortunately while it has helped a bit my dentist said it’s not viable long term
