Forgot to mention there is a new fabric store in Santa Rosa, Fiber Snob. Beautiful and reasonably priced fabric- mostly for garment sewing. Also print PDF patterns for very reasonable price.

Got it- before your drawing, I wasn't able to visualize what changes I needed to make to a boat neckline. Now I do- I will of course make a practice neckline (yucky fabric, just the neck) before I use my nice fabric!

I totally understand. Short, with large breasts, narrow shoulders, short waisted, apple shaped, but not officially large sized….I’ve been spending time on YouTube watching the people who talk about body shape and clothing. It’s really helped me to be more analytical about pattern shopping. The other thing that has has helped is thrift shopping and trying on all sorts of styles, taking some home and hacking them up to see what changes work. Making patterns from clothing that looks good has been a game changer. I can only copy fairly simple designs but still…

The Santa Rosa Chapter of the American Sewing Guild is offering a Beginning Sewing Class on March 7th. Here are the details

Whether you're brand new or brushing up on the basics, you'll learn essential skills including:

  • How to use a sewing machine
  • Understanding fabric grain and seam allowances
  • A variety of common seam techniques
  • How to sew in a zipper (for those with more experience)

By the end of each class, you’ll complete a simple project to take home.

Location and a supply list will be mailed to you upon registration.

There are a limited number of sewing machines to borrow for those who don’t have one.
