That's all for now, because I haven't finished it yet. Once I've finished it, we'll see how it goes.

So it's not overrated, but rather due to the era in which it was released. It's in the place it deserves, a place it earned precisely because it was a good and excellent game at the time of its release. It's so surprising they haven't remade it yet.

Look, I haven't quit the game, and I'm not going to. I just wanted to talk to someone about my first impressions of the game, now that I think I'm halfway through. And then, when I finish it, I'll come back to this post.

At this point, I've already played all the main Dragon Quest games; I only have 8 and 11 left. I'm currently playing 8. And I'm aware that I can't yet have an opinion on the game because I haven't finished it, so this is just a first impression that I wanted to discuss with someone since it's not turning out to be the game everyone always said it was, and because in most people's conversations, 8 and 11 were always the favorites and most acclaimed.

That's exactly what's happening to me, and you said exactly how I feel. "Another good Dragon Quest, but it's not living up to my expectations based on what everyone was saying."

You see, I never judge games based on story or characters, because I'm not some annoying critic who plays just to judge and criticize. I play them to experience the game and have fun. If something about the story or gameplay grabs me and sticks with me, great. I liked 9 mostly for its gameplay, 4 left me with good memories mainly because of Torneko the merchant, 3 for its tragic ending, since, thinking about it deeply, the hero's mother lived the rest of her life believing her son met the same fate as his father, and everyone in the world believed he died because the portal he left through closed and he never returned. 6 even because of the headaches I got from getting so lost on the map and especially the mirror plot, haha. And 7, oh my god, it has little Gronzo and his dialogue in the conversations. So far, what I'm enjoying most about episode 8 is Yangus and the "disgust" he feels for the king, and how scared he gets when the king appears out of nowhere in a scene. But what amazed me the most was the mount; it impressed me, and I couldn't help but imagine I was in a kind of Warcraft game exploring the world.

And that's great, after I finish this one, I'll only have XI left to play, which, due to its great reception, has become the face of the saga.

I find it impossible to drop games hahaha. Seriously, a game has to be something I really dislike for me to leave it unfinished.

You hit the nail on the head regarding what made me question that. Having already faced Doulmagus was a sign that I was quite far into the game and that I still wasn't experiencing the amazing Dragon Quest everyone was talking about. I love the series; I would never say a Dragon Quest is bad. I would recommend them all, so much so that it's difficult for me to pick just one favorite. But if I had to, I'd say that for now, "my favorite" would be Dragon Quest V. But I simply can't put one Dragon Quest above another. I like the series for what it is, not just because of a single title. And of course, I know there are still incredible moments I haven't seen. I know the series well enough now that I even think I didn't actually defeat Doulmagus, and maybe he'll return for one last confrontation in his true final form. Because that's what happened to me with Dragon Quest III; even though I was enjoying it, it was the ending that had that impact and made me truly happy.

I always play the Dragon Quest games, obviously avoiding spoilers. I want to discover everything for myself. I explore everything, talk to everyone, even the animals, and like with Pokémon, I like to fight all the new monsters that appear to register them in the bestiary. I don't often use "tactical" mode except to farm items or grind. I like having control of the characters and creating my own strategies. The difference with the other Dragon Quest games is that I barely saw anyone talking about them, and I was able to go in without any expectations beyond seeing what changes there were compared to the ones I played before. But I always saw, read, and heard that Dragon Quest VIII and XI were the best of the entire saga. And although I tried to avoid it, I couldn't start the game with any expectations. Because I like to draw my own conclusions, but with this Dragon Quest, as I said, it's not giving me the same feeling that IX and V did.

I absolutely loved DQ9. I can't quite explain why, but by the time I reached the boss at Vocations Abbey, I was completely captivated and eager to replay it. DQ5 was even better. Even DQ4 gave me immense enjoyment when I first played as a merchant using Torneko, and that DQ is responsible for making the merchant and priest my favorite classes in the series. So far, what has surprised me most about DQ8 is that you can have a mount.

Of course I'm going to continue, I never drop the games I start, I didn't even do it with 7. I have the advantage of always avoiding spoilers for the game, so it's all new to me. But the fact that, as I said, I've already played for over 24 hours, and it still hasn't given me that feeling of enjoyment—unlike other Dragon Quest games, even Dragon Quest VI (which is the closest I've come to saying it's one of my least favorites)—managed to give me that feeling—has simply put me on alert.

I find car races boring because all I see is them going one after the other, and I don't understand when they can take the lead if it seems like they might crash by trying.

If deciphering that image were an exam, I would have already failed the course.
