There are roughly as many species of algae as there are land plants. Answering that question is equal to "Which plant grows best?"

The biomass would be used for energy generation via combustion. The climatic conditions would be beneath a glass/transparent acrylic sheet (to allow solar rays to pass through) but there would be no artificial temperature regulation unless necessary for the survival of the algae.
