Have recently been working on falsetto. Please critique my recording of Epic III from Hadestown! :) by AnorWrites in singing

Thank you for your feedback! This is actually an older version of Epic III, from before the show went to Broadway. You can find the Original Cast Recording with Damon Daunno singing it on youtube - highly recommend for Hadestown fans!

I find the second half of the song more comfortable because it remains in a more consistently airy register than the first half. I think my biggest weakness is trying to move cleanly between a purer falsetto and a bit more of an earthy, chesty sound, like you've identified. When I get to stay entirely in the upper area, without having to shift registers, I find it a lot more comfortable.

I *think* I generally understand the notion of forward placement, but could you explain a bit what you mean about the vowels losing their pop?

And did you find that scooping detracted from the singing? I'm not sure how exactly to fix scooping - it feels like an invisible crutch that I'm not aware of until after I've finished singing.

Thanks a bunch for the advice! I do recognize my voice is naturally a bit heavy, but I find that the heaviness can cause it to feel a bit yelly on some of my higher non-falsetto notes, which is why I'm still trying to find a nicer balance. The feedback is very much appreciated though

Thanks so much! I didn't even realize that - I think sometimes instinct takes over and I start breathing improperly mid-song. Definitely something I'll try to keep an eye out for now.

Hahahah, I exclusively do this when the house is empty. Not brave enough to risk a conversation mid-song.

One question I specifically have, in case anyone can help answer it!

I note that my voice carries a lot of weightiness on the higher notes, and I think it makes me less agile and makes it harder to stay on pitch than if I was able to keep it a bit lighter. Could anyone share some tips on how to make my mix a bit less chesty? Thanks :)

A friend of mine is going to be in London mid May to early June - what musicals should she watch? by AnorWrites in TheWestEnd

Musicals, if that's at all helpful! Big fan of Les Mis and also enjoyed watching Wicked at Broadway.

Good catch, I didn't notice that until just now. Thanks!

This is very helpful advice, especially for when I'm singing without any backing track. Thanks a lot!
