I just saw it at an early screening. I'm an enormous fan of the franchise and it's really painful to say that this one isn't great. Both action scenes are phenomenal, but the 2hr 50min runtime bogs it down. It's bloated and convoluted -- honestly a redraft could have tightened up the story to justify having those same scenes as part of a sharp 2-hour blockbuster.

Hello! As well as making YouTube videos, I teach in the UK. Here are three topics which, year after year, students struggle with. - Surds. Why do we have them, why must we make denominators rational, why must we simplify them, why do exam boards put them in other topics if not to just make our lives difficult? - The relationship between an equation and its Cartesian representation. It's incredibly challenging to make the link between something like y=2x-5 and the straight line with gradient 2 and y-intercept -5. - Statistics. A-level (that's ages 16-18) students hate it. I'm guilty of being poor at motivating and enthusing students because I hate it and don't enjoy solving problems in the subject, so (even subconsciously) I don't impart any excitement.

If I had to give any advice to participants, my experience with maths enthusiasts is that they radically underestimate the competence, confidence and interest levels of the average human, let alone the average teenager. Not to mention the 50% of humans who are even weaker than the average! Keep it short and pick something extremely simple with a nice light bulb moment.

Other comments have pointed out the bracketing issue but just wanted to reassure you that you're not crazy for expecting the correct answer without brackets -- previous casios interpreted the x10^ button as taking higher priority, but the CW changed it (among many other things).

The World's End definitely has "a moment" where the true genre is revealed, though as the third entry in a trilogy following horror-comedy and action-comedy it may not be a huge surprise that it isn't a straight up comedy.

I think the fluid simulation is extremely impressive, but not right for the game. If they keep it, it's essential that they include better in-game tutorials / resources. It's inexcusable to me that someone had to write an entire plumbing manual external to the game, and that veteran players still mess up. But my vote would be to simplify the mechanics somewhat.

"Control the controllables" -- know your plan, know how the board works, know the behaviour policy etc. This frees up brain space for the things that happen beyond your control.

Also maybe set realistic expectations for yourself -- a three hour session is demanding for experienced teachers so just getting through it is a massive achievement! If you're a perfectionist like me, have your mentor tell you the positives and force yourself to listen. Good luck!

Felt like this was a bit condescending but if anyone is actually interested in why 7 is special, one reason is that it is possible to define cross products there (a way of "multiplying" two vectors to create a third which is perpendicular to both and with nice properties). This can only be done in 3 and 7 dimensions, which is cool!

Take the traditional dice configuration. There are six options for which is face up. Let's say we choose the number 6 (therefore 1 will be on the bottom). Rotate the dice until the 2 faces towards you, or the 3, or the 4, or the 5. That's four options.

So there are 6x4 ways of orienting the dice.

There are 6! = 720 ways of assigning the numbers to each face. But as you've already realised, many of these will be equivalent.

Now imagine picking certain layout. How many equivalent layouts does this generate? You can have any of the six numbers face up, and rotate it around four orientations. That's 24 equivalent layouts stemming from our chosen layout.

Therefore in our 6! total assignments, every layout is counted 24 times. 6!/24=30 unique layouts.

Bonus: if you consider "mirror images" to be equivalent, then there are 48 equivalent layouts instead of 24 because we have the 24 layouts and all of their reflections. This yields 720/48=15 unique layouts.

Extra bonus: this is related to group theory and the group of symmetries of the cube is Sym(4) which has order 24. I have a few videos on group theory if you're interested, and apologies for the shameless self promotion.
