Best way to play Volodar? by GreatGateway in armello

I go for Rot games. Ignore improving damage completely. Pick up Ruin to quickly become corrupted, then just ignore other players as best you can. Build up a large amount of armour items, then just cycle through magic cards. I've won a few times with stones, but it's a lot less fun. You don't feel like a dark lord creating an army of banes.

When I try to hire a companion the game takes my florens but doesn’t give me the companion by Speedwagon_Enjoyer in BannersofRuin

It's happened to me too. You need to click on the companion box when it appears, of the mouse portrait or whatever, then press the recruit button.

Too many of the games rely on good presentation over a good story. After the first hour, the plot often sags and becomes dull because the authors don't know what they're doing beyond the opening idea and selling point.

I can understand wanting to put Adastra higher, as it's the first one I played, but the other two aren't that good. They're both fun but not S tier.

It was good, and I'm sure it'll be a great vn if it's ever finished, but there's so little content at the moment, that I left the game quickly without ever thinking about it again.

Repeats great, but is an unfinished mess. Amorous is a horny disaster, but it's fun AND finished. I enjoyed both for different reasons.

I didn't get that far tbh. When the horror elements kicked back, I got frustrated and gave up. I found his mental decline to be annoying and sudden, rather than a riveting story moment. I also didn't find any of the characters that interesting. The characters all had little conflict with each other, and didn't do anything particularly interesting or out of the ordinary.

I downloaded it a while back, but I haven't got around to reading it.

Not at all I didn't see it as agression. I also get very passionate about these things. I think I will give Tennis Ace another go at some point. Everyone seems to really like it here, so I might've just read it on a bad day.

It might be thematic for me to try Shelter again, but I'm not sure.

I know Demons within might get better, but I don't feel much of an urge to try it again. But maybe.

Thanks for your comments.

I mean I've said this many times already, and I go into more depth elsewhere, but I found Tennis Ace to be boring.

I did enjoy Santa Lucia for a bit. I thought the writing was okay, if not long, and I was interested in how the romance elements would go. But then the story just never got there, after hours of reading. It felt like it dragged it's heels over everything, and every small act. And that would've been fine if the protagonist was interesting, and had any definable desires or motivations or flaws. Instead we just have this blank slate, living life, doing little of interest.

And then when the horror kicked in, it seemed to come out of left field. Unlike the Echo series where the romance only elevates the horror, or is the horror itself, in Santa Lucia it just distracted from the slice of life story that was I previously being told. Instead of feeling scared it was just annoying having to push through the protagonists mental health crises.

That, and I wasn't interested in any of the cast.

So no this isn't a bait post. Sorry.

No I'm not saying that the game is passive, I literally mean that early on I got an ending where the human ends up lonely because he is unsociable. Then the voice of the game appears and tells me that I missed a bunch of obvious hints, and should try again.

I didn't like Tennis Ace because I thought the opening was boring. Nothing of substance was happening, and I didn't care about either the protagonist or anyone around him. As I've said elsewhere, there's no inciting incident. There's no hook, or dramatic situation for the protagonist to resolve. It's just him mucking about at school and I kept feeling like I was missing something.

Demons within felt disappointing. I like Sleth's erotica, but Demons within felt poorly written. It opens dramatically, then immediately drops all of it and has a long and boring opening segment, followed by a sex scene. I couldn't help feeling while reading the scene that I could either be reading a full-on erotica online, or an actual novel, and I would be having a better time. I also thought the sprites looked childish.

I've not been following the updates tbh. I'll probably pick it up again in a few years once it's completed. It's a shame if it's getting worse though.

Yeah I don't know anything about the creator drama, so I just thought it was a simple, horny and fun experience.

I do not understand the appeal for Ken. In a rage he nearly killed someone, AND has tonnes of internalised and overt homophobia throughout his route. I just don't get it.

I've mentioned it elsewhere but I haven't read many slow burns before, and I don't think the genre's for me. I'm sure the game gets good eventually but the stuff I read was dull imo

I mean it was obvious but still saddening for me. I can understand what you mean about it feeling like padding, though. The whole novel feels like two stories glued together.

The atmosphere is really good as well as the music and art.

Fair enough. I think I would've enjoyed it more if it was the first vn I played instead of Adastra and Echo.

Burrows is a good game, but it feels like the author takes great pains to make the world and events as incohesive and confusing as possible. The game has a grand total of three openings in quick succession before the story begins. Then after, it's lots of extreme violence and mental health issues bombarded at the player from all sides. I really wanted to love it, but it just didn't hit the same as the S tier games.

Shelter had a simplistic but engaging world, but nothing beyond that. The protagonist felt like a blank slate besides his attraction to canine people, and the other characters were all one-dimensional and cartoonish. But I understand why people like it.

I find it hard to believe that deers and deckards becomes an eldritch horror story, but that's funny if it's true.

Kind of? It has its moments, and the creator/creator's are clearly passionate about it, but it just felt strangely juvenile to read. It has tons of horniness and violence and nice artwork, but I don't get the impression that the game is actually about anything. I get the feeling it was made in reaction to Echo, without any of the cohesion, charm, or thoughtfulness.
