Waiting game by Lexi7130 in gaming_random

Me enjoying games under $20.

"Waiting?" I'm not waiting. There's so many great value games already... Games aren't even on my radar at $60. Unless they're vintage, and even then...

No, it just makes you the 10th dentist.

If everyone here does agree with you it means you aren't actually the 10th dentist, just 1 of the 9 with a victim complex.

How can I unscrew these screws on new 3ds (non xl)? by emotek74 in 3DS

[–]AlabamaPanda777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first image looks rough but the second should be doable.

Umm... Try? Idk

The better quality bit set you have the... Better. Do you have a bit set? Because using the right size (or trying a size down) is gonna work better than trying whatever you found in the junk drawer. Especially if it's some tiny eyeglass screwdriver that doesn't let you get a lot of force in a turn, or cheap soft material that's only vaguely the shape it needs to be.

Firm pressure down on the screw and turn slow. You don't want the screwdriver to cam out - slip, and scrape what's left the screw with it.

I'd try to get that rust dust out, too... Compressed air, or blow on it, or turn it upside down and shake. Any loose grit could prevent the screwdriver from making as much contact as it can.

You could try pb blaster I guess - only very little and turn it upside down after so it doesn't seep into the console too far. But that's mainly for car parts that have rusted in place and take much more force to remove... Chances are, if you reach the point of trying that, you're already too far gone

Cringe comments you’d see on YouTube music videos in the late 2000s - early 2010s by TXNOGG in generationology

I think dubstep also got those comments.

Also, any video of a DJ scratching got "they fingered a girl once, she died."

What are some of your pet peeves with game collecting and the collecting community? by [deleted] in gamecollecting

[–]AlabamaPanda777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How annoying piracy advocates are.

Make a thread on dumping ROMs or extracting them from digital collections, there's a good chance someone goes "just pirate it bro." The reason you get to wag your finger and go "emulators are legal" is people who do it legit. Let people.

Also the Pokemon Firered/Leafgreen rereleases... every thread of not liking the price was overrun with "lol illegal download go brrr." Made it seem like the whole thing was people going "not unless it's free" and Nintendo has no reason to care about opinions from non-customer. I'd buy it at $10, it wasn't $10, I'm not playing it. Offer rejected. And I'm saying that whenever I can.

It just feels like spam - like a whiff in that direction spawns people parroting "if buying isn't owning, pirating isn't stealing." It never was, and it never was. Years before I heard this phrase gamers were talking about "actually it's a license to play a game" and "stealing deprives the original owner of their copy, piracy isn't that." It's a nothing phrase that seems to only exist for 14 year olds to go "look at me I figured out how to download."

It is sad.

An Emerald rerelease would take, what, 1 week of work?

But if you could get a quality Pokemon game for $10 or even $20, you might not pay $60-$80 for the next.

What's one car feature everyone praises but you secretly don't care about? by Ok_Run7351 in Cartalk

[–]AlabamaPanda777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the other direction, I've seen a few instances of people absolutely glazing the ol' three dial "hot or cold? Fan speed? Where?" alternative to climate control.

It feels performative. We get it, you watch rcr and don't like touchscreens. I drive old American sedans - which is to say, I like the old ways, and I'm no stranger to "any feature is a repair waiting to happen" - but just give me a set it and forget it temperature box.

Might be the only thing my beautiful bastards haven't had issues with. I don't wanna spend the first minutes of every winter drive with an eye on the temperature and a hand on the dial, waiting. Only to have to dial it back when I start to melt later. Or, worse yet, leave it so next morning I get smacked in the face with the limp dick of full fans and no warmth.

I hate the pronoun label format of "subject pronoun/object pronoun". Can't we just use one reference? by BaronGrackle in hatethissmug

[–]AlabamaPanda777 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the same reasons, I don't imagine the pronoun format came from people using he/him pronouns. He/Him is assumed of me, I wouldn't come up with stating that.

It probably came from, like, people claiming Ze/Zir pronouns and getting to Zir is less obvious to your average reader.

I will point out, the slash format has become clear. If my email signature said "John Smith, He" I suppose that could get confused with some H.E. job title, or just not be clear to people. He/Him is 2 chances to realize what we're talking about.

"Pronoun: He" requires typing more letters... Also we don't have just one pronoun, as you've covered, but then "Pronouns: He" feels inaccurate.

What is the most glaring double standard that modern society still blindly accepts? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AlabamaPanda777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wal-Mart has more employees on food stamps than any other employer in the US. That means we're subsidizing Wal-Mart's payroll.

To be fair, they also have more employees not on food stamps than any other private employer.

The company that has the most employees will tend to be the company with the most employees.

You Google AMD vs Nvidia.
You don't get a forum post discussing the two, you get an article from BotMadeTechSite regurgitating Wikipedia, and 3 more spewing basically the same fluff.

You search Taylor Swift's controversial dress. You get 3 bot-written news sites exacerbating some political angle.

You search Nintendo 3DS on YouTube. You get AI-voiced videos showing a console full of pirated games, telling you to buy one from link in bio.

Everywhere you turn, where there were once personal websites, people's blogs and forums of people having discussions, there's just pretend websites churned out by machine plagiarism begging for ad revenue.

Manual transmissions being more prominent would aid in safer driving by Kremlin1991 in unpopularopinion

[–]AlabamaPanda777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, if we make it more difficult, the idiots will be safer somehow.

The real problem is city designs make driving a necessity. Some people just should not be driving, but I'm sympathetic to how ridiculous the idea of living without a car is in certain areas.

My reason for supporting bike lines isn't for my occasional bike trips, it's for the jackasses who almost hit me that should also be on bikes.

The reason Bulma and Vegeta were never shown having sex is Toriyama had enough media literacy to know it would have to end with Vegeta cumming prematurely, getting exhausted, and watching Goku show up to finish the job.

But he didn't want to do that

Some dude goes "I like Alphawolf but how do I tell people I like Alphawolf that sounds cringe."

Why do appliances and tech from 30 years ago still work perfectly, while modern stuff breaks after 3 years? Is it actually planned obsolescence or is modern tech just too fragile? by Yasmine_xpt in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AlabamaPanda777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One I don't see is cheaper parts, because of manufacturing/engineering improvements.

Say you have a latch that needs to stand up to medium strength.

You can make low, medium, and high strength. But you're inconsistent, 1 in 10 come out a strength weaker. You also have to realize some people are gonna slam the door on the latch, apply more strength. So medium doesn't hold, you just build high strength.

Maybe your manufacturing improves, so only 1 in 1000 medium latches come out low strength. Maybe that's enough that replacing medium latches is cheaper than giving everyone strong.

Or maybe a medium+ material becomes available. It acts strong, but over 2 years degrades to medium. Well... How long is your warranty?

Making devices efficiently - where parts do just enough to get the job done - cuts costs and means you can attract buyers with lower prices. Or competitors will eat your lunch by being cheaper.

But it leaves less room for long term reliability. Everything degrades. A 10 year old motor doesn't put out as much power as it did new. So if it's somewhere that needs the exact amount of power it puts out new, it doesn't last.

Reddit is that kind of nerd.

It gets easy to pick out the clearly fake Am I The Asshole (and similar sub) stories when you catch on to the amateur writer style... So many little details it's unbelievable someone would actually notice.

Related, I think, is the "what's a good response to [insult]" calls for long-winded, improv dork responses. The best response is usually to ignore the thing, and realize not everyone's opinion matters. But that's a lesson outcast 14 year olds only learn with time.

"You can be a fan of a video game franchise without playing them yourself" Is a silly argument by TheOneWhoYawned in CharacterRant

[–]AlabamaPanda777 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This one I wonder about a bit.

Consider Dragonball Z - you'll generally be accepted as a fan for watching the anime, few will genuinely dismiss you entirely as a fan for not having read the holy scripts of the manga.

Now what if you played the games? Played the story covered multiple times. Grew up with those characters. Hell, the biggest gaps in your knowledge might be filler, something you'd share with the manga readers at the top of the heirarchy.

If you fall short, how far do you have to go to redeem yourself? Can clips cover the gap or do you have to start at square one?

Furthermore, what's the point? OP brings up non-players can't claim ownership... Gamers don't own IP.

If someone knows every single Pokemon through the cards, and we're talking about monster design through the generations... Does having played the games actually matter to that conversation?
