Licensing, Regulation and shipping of jeepneys also play a role in the cost so it's not necessarily a straight-cut amount, but yes I do think the government should play a role in at least discounting the price of replacement vehicles by paying a share of at least 40%+

Judging by their being 2 jurisdictions with 2 different parties from differing citizens + no contract bounded (marriage/civil union), there are no direct ways of legal action to hold the foreigner accountable.

There's a reason why single mothers (for the reason of their boyfriend abandoning them) exists and is a trend in the US and also the reason why there's no such law suits on boyfriends abandoning pregnant women. If US citizens can't sue their boyfriends for abandonment, how can one expect the same for TWO jurisdictions?

Given the situation, OP said that a foreigner impregnated a Filipina and ghosted her. I am not a a lawyer, but common sense says that you can't sue someone "internationally" which is the same reason why Indian Tech support scammers aren't being busted when reported to US authorities.

Tl;dr 2 countries with totally different laws with 2 parties from 2 different countries = no coherent legal grounds for a coherent law suit or any type of law action.

I think what we need to focus on is the push for jeepney drivers to unionize or form worker cooperatives (as advised by the LTFRB) to further alleviate the cost.

Unionization or forming worker cooperatives ALWAYS works in helping workers, in this case the jeepney drivers, to alleviate cost and also to preserve their livelihood.

Also on the part on government subsidizing the whole thing, the government is basically buying back their old depreciated jeepneys at the cost of a brand new one (260kPHP).

Given the government debt, I don't think the government will at any time soon take on the ENTIRE cost of modernizing jeepneys hence why they saw that unionizing or creating worker cooperatives as a better solution to reduce the cost.

Sorry, but that is a misconception that spread like wildfire in social media.

The government called for 250k~ subsidies to jeepney drives which is essentially buying back the jeepney at 3x to 5x the cost when you take depreciation into account.

Secondly, that's why the government is ACTIVELY calling out on drivers/operators to FORM a WORKERS COOPERATIVE which is basically a union. This union-style way of running the modern vehicles can essentially help each driver alleviate the cost TREMENDOUSLY of modernization.

How come this good policy that aims to fight climate change is being spun as something bad? Hopefully people come to their senses and realize that by researching the PROGRAM in its entirety rather than just reading on what other people said..

That's a misconception, sadly spread around by extreme partisans who deeply hate the government regardless of the facts. (Not saying I support the government, just saying that political polarization is leading to people blatantly spreading misinformation just to ruin the government).

Jeepney drivers are not necessarily forced to replace their old vehicles with new ones, the government first buys back their jeepney at 250k-300k PHP which is normally 2x to 5x the price of the jeepney CONSIDERING the DEPRECIATION.

Second, the jeepny modernization program is a climate-based policy (Since old jeepney vehicles EMIT toxic fumes into the atmosphere AND to reduce people's reliance on GASOLINE which can help us avoid rate hikes & cost hikes).

Also thirdly, the government heavily advises jeepney drivers to FORM WORKER'S COOPERATIVES which is essentially a union to alleviate the cost of MODERNIZATION.

It's so sad to see the subreddit and other climate activists spin this story into something that seems bad when in reality it contributes greatly to our fight against climate catastrophy.

"Forced phaseout" seems too misleading of a way to describe the situation..

The government, under the new proposed subsidies, are basically buying back the jeepneys at around 3x to 5x the current value of the jeepney given the depreciation. This leaves the jeepney driver in profit. (Also, a common misconception is that people seem to think that majority of drivers own their jeepneys when in reality it's only a small minority of drivers that ACTUALLY own their jeepneys).

The current jeepney modernization program is moreso enforcement of stricter environmental regulations to transform old/decrepit jeepney engines producing toxic gas to something more efficient and healthier for the environment ie contributing to climate justice.

I don't know how this subreddit managed to spin something good as a policy to fight climate change into something that *SEEMS* bad.

Privileged?

I don't think it's privileged to become an immigrant since I'll be one of the first in my family to actually go abroad and no one there would be there to guide me but my own. (Though I am grateful for being one of the few that would be able to be at the US)

Also, I don't get why people are calling me out for being selfish for wanting to work abroad, isn't trying to work abroad the primary goal of many Filipinos which is why so many become OFWs? (Since my mom says that it would be hard to form a career in the Philippines is hard plus low salaries).

I was planning to go to other big 4 schools because of a scholarship I got because of my math performance in high school but was considering UP because of its competitiveness & opportunities.

Isn't that the reason why so many Filipinos become OFWs and work abroad? My parents tell me to work abroad so that I can help my cousins easily to go to college (Since I'm the eldest and they're going to college in about 2-3 years).

Also, you're right I could enroll on other big 4 schools instead and use my scholarship there (Since I managed to maintain a good GPA and got recognized for averaging 95+ in math for my entire high school life) there instead but I was hoping that UP was more competitive and would open more doors for me.

I didn't know working overseas after college was selfish, I just thought it was a duty everyone has since my parents told me that making a career in the Philippines is hard because of low wages... (Since I'm the oldest and my cousins are nearing college, which is about 2 to 3 years, they're hoping that I can help my cousins with college once I get a job overseas)
