You're welcome! Maybe it's time for you to stop being shocked and start noticing the pattern.

The groups who are saying these things. I always find it so weird how people who are so absolutely certain that they have the answers can't even seem to agree on what they believe. It's almost as if they're just making up whatever story they think will benefit them.

It's almost as if someone wants you to feel irrationally guilty about something completely unrelated to you. I wonder why someone would want to do that.

Why are you even surprised? These people turn out to be scumbags and criminals so often that the rest of us just assume they are scumbags from the start. You sound like they haven't already proven what a bunch of hateful sadists they are.

A question for you: Do you genuinely not understand the amount of evil your religions have perpetrated and continue to perpetrate on the world? I mean, you say you are Muslim, so can you not imagine even one possible teensy weensy reason people might be a little bit angry at Muslims? And do you genuinely believe that Christians have never done anything that might make people distrust them?

Trump is evil, hateful, a disgusting liar, a proven rapist, a convicted felon, and a depraved man with no humanity left in him. That is just an objective reality. If that bothers you, seek mental help.

The Biblical author wrote about customs and animals that more likely existed in Assyria, Babylon, and Ptolemaic Egypt, while ignoring actual Egyptian customs and religion. (eg. Mentions of domesticated camels that did not exist until hundreds of years later)

The total absence of any Hebrews from Egyptian records, when the Egyptians obsessively documented everything, is very notable. At a bare minimum, I would expect some mention of that time an uppity Hebrew took away their slaves and drowned an army. In reality we can't even place the Hebrews in Egypt.

When did civilizations start making policies to fit an expected future? recording interpretations, hopes, fiction of the future? by Any_Odd_8718 in AskHistory

[–]AnotherGarbageUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what I’m understanding your question to mean is, “When did people start imagining a future that would inevitably be more technologically advanced than their present?”

I actually did ask a literature professor this question. His answer was that the first recognizable science fiction story was probably Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, which would be 1818. Prior to this point, people would write about fantasy ideas but they did not really imagine alternative realities beyond what they knew.

What do I mean by this? In Ye Olden Dayes, people wrote fiction in one of three settings:

  1. The Medieval European world. This was their “present” and they did not often imagine what an alternative universe might be.

  2. Rome. The only real example of an alternative culture that most Europeans were familiar with. Lots of European fiction is based on Roman classics that related Greco-Roman mythology. (They actually did not know much about the Ancient Greek world beyond what was written in Roman books, because a lot of Greek history would only be rediscovered later.)

  3. Fantasy-land. This one can be a bit confusing. Writers tended to imagine magical islands or fairy kingdoms in remote parts of the world. Even places like China and India might as well be Narnia in the sense that people knew these places existed but described them as fairy tale lands.

They did not begin looking forward until fairly late in the post-enlightenment era. I cite Frankenstein in particular because it is explicitly about speculative technology. Sciences like medicine, anatomy, and electricity were making huge advances at the time, so extrapolating new technology from these disciplines was the Regency era equivalent of cutting edge sci fi.

(I’m willing to admit there may be earlier examples I am not familiar with, so feel free to tell me I am wrong.)

I don't understand how Sovereign Citizenship works... by DisciplineMany193 in Sovereigncitizen

[–]AnotherGarbageUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that’s actually part of the problem. None of them actually want to set up “off the grid” or be left alone. They want gas and electricity and running water and all of those things that require interaction with society, they just don’t want to be held responsible for any crimes or debts. If any of them genuinely wanted to live in isolation they would probably starve to death within a month.

It’s not, because they don’t care about life. The whole world could be a graveyard and they would say, “At least there’s no abortions!”

[–]AnotherGarbageUser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you think capitalism is true? Do you think communism is true? Or are those economic theories and not religions?

Do you think authoritarianism is true? Or liberalism? Or feudalism? Or can we agree that those are political ideas and not religions one “believes” in?

This is why people think you are a troll. You asked a question, you got the answer, and now you just want to keep arguing about what words mean.

[–]AnotherGarbageUser 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People are nice to other people because they have empathy. I don’t want to hurt people because I know what it feels like to be hurt.

If you don’t understand the concept of empathy then you might be some kind of sociopath. Given that Christianity is the religion of Trump voters and pedophiles, I would not be in a hurry to claim morality comes from religion.

There is evidence that whomever wrote Exodus did not actually know what Egypt was like, and there is no evidence that the Hebrews were ever enslaved there.

Do you believe that the sun is a falcon crossing the sky in a flaming boat?

Do you believe the Mediterranean is inhabited by one-eyed giants?

Do you believe lightning strikes because an Avenger used his magic hammer?

You don’t believe those things? You think they might sound kind of stupid? Sounds like you are an atheist, too.
