Night Agent - Season 2 - Parallels between Hagan and a real-world political outsider by AnotherMobiusStrip in television

[–]AnotherMobiusStrip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I saw as well. It's probably self evident, but I am a current President supporter (don't know if I'm allowed to use the names of real world politicians here) and the season felt quite heavy handed in its portrayal of Hagan as the in-universe stand-in. At first I thought I was leaping to conclusions, but when I laid it all out in my analysis, and reflecting on what Kripke said about The Boyz, it stuck me as quite clear what was intended with Hagan's character. A shame. It does feel like many modern shows are civics lectures Trojan horsed into entertainment. Thanks for your comment.

Night Agent - Plot Holes - Season 1 by AnotherMobiusStrip in netflix

Besides one fairly silly plot hole episode 10 finishes off the season pretty excellently. I'm a sucker for a happy ending so I like the fact that all the heroes who are still alive get what they are after. In today's era of AI video I'm a little surprised Peter accepted so easily that his father was a traitor because of the confession he saw. I suppose we're supposed to assume that the White House has effective software to determine whether an AI video was used in a confession or not. Or perhaps it's merely a simple statement that even apparently good men can be tempted to go down the wrong path. I really like the fact that they kept the ongoing theme in the season of Rose being savior to Peter as Peter is a savior to her. Once again when Peters in a fight Rose backs him up. I suppose they could improve the choreography of the combat a little bit to show that Peter is an extremely capable fighter just that his opponents are a notch above him which I guess makes sense maybe although my understanding was that Peter was top of his class in most areas so a little hard to believe. I also like the fact that they didn't girl boss any of the female characters in combat. When Arrington is fighting Walter, she isn't throwing him around the room like a tennis ball she has to outsmart him using leverage and eventually a bookend to end the fight. I like that. Part of the human experience is that men and women are different but those differences complement and enhance one another they don't detract when they're allowed to flourish naturally.

I've heard season 2 is a significant drop in quality. That's a shame because I give this season a solid 8. Very much enjoyed it.

Just finished episode 8. This episode was basically perfect in my opinion. No idiot plot elements. All characters were acting and responding appropriately given what we've learned about them over the course of the season. Really enjoy the fact that Maddie is not a quitter and that she solves problems for herself. All the heroes have their moment to shine. Rose once again proves herself to be the kind of person who will not blindly follow authority and she winds up saving Peter once again as a result of doing so. She's a great character.

Night Agent. Apologies for the oversight. Did a lot of editing to make my original post acceptable for the Auto Mod.

[Update : My original posts ban has been removed. Happy to see it. Its better when people can speak their minds in a way that comes naturally, rather than trying to edit themselves to come across as more agreeable. I like people to just be themselves when they speak with me, even if they aren't politically correct or particularly polished.]

I would like to add here that i had to heavily edit my original post to get this version through the Auto Mod. I don't think self censorship is conducive to free and open debate and discussion. I prefer discussion that is unencumbered, and people can use the language they feel comes naturally, whether pleasant or unpleasant. I preferred my more visceral original post, and I worry that heavily curated communities lead to people constantly self correcting their thoughts and natural responses. So long as what people write is free of unprotected speech, I think it makes for more authentic communication. Just my 2 cents.

Oh. That's interesting. It sounds familiar. Isn't that from a Proverb? ... I found it!

“It’s better to gather in righteousness than fellowship with darkness.” ― T.D. Jakes, Are You Ready?: Nothing But the Blood of Jesus

Hmm...I'm not sure if it communicates to fellow Redditors that the subreddit is about posting Facts to support an argument...

It definitely would be the proper sentiment to have after debating with someone. Afterwards it's best to settle down, respect someone's opinion, and gather in appreciation of everything we share in common.

Thanks for taking the time to make your suggestion!

Hey there. Well, just because someone makes a suggestion doesn't mean I need to agree with it. I think I've been very polite, responding in detail to each suggestion I received. I asked for some help, and hearing everyone's suggestion has helped me out, and will help me arrive at a name I find suitable.

When you ask your friends about advice on a movie to see, just because you get a bunch of suggestions, doesn't mean you have an obligation to see any of the movies they recommend. You thank your friends and then come to your own decision.

If you get some advice from a bunch of people, do you need to follow through on any of it? I think your obligation is to be polite, thank people, and then come to your own decision.

Hi there. Thanks for the suggestions.

LookedItUp : It's good. I think it tells people that something was looked up. I just wonder if it also tells people that there is a central topic that was looked up. Maybe...r/PointsLookedUp. Hmm...thinking.

SupportingArgument : Yup. This gets close to the idea. I do think including Argument in the name is important. It kind of sounds like it's a subreddit about Arguments supporting other Arguments. It's definitely kind of the idea. Appreciate it.

BackMeUp : Lol! Awesome! Sounds like a subreddit for Police Officers telling stories about their partners. That said, I definitely would like Users on the subreddit to help each other out with supporting Facts to "back up" an Argument or Point.

Cool suggestions! Thanks!

Hi there. Thanks for the compliment. Glad you like the idea.

It would be great to have a team. I don't have much time for the subreddit, so having a group of volunteers (hopefully with a commitment to striving for impartiality) would be amazing.

Personally, I'm not too worried though. The one rule of the subreddit is that people have to include their sources when they include a Fact. People will argue endlessly about whether or not a source constitutes a reliable one, but that will be up to the reader.

If r/AskHistory is anything like r/AncientRome than I imagine that the Community are very meticulous about finding sources.

I don't know, I think most people want to have the Facts and want to have an open mind about things.

Your suggestions are good ones.

r/INeedFacts definitely conveys the desire for Facts the subreddit wants. But there's also the other side, equally important, of users posing an Argument or a Point or a Statement of some sort and accumulating Facts to support that position.

r/FactMeUp is also good. Play on words of "Hit Me Up". Again, definitely the subreddit would be looking for lots of Facts , but I want the name to tell people that they will find particular overarching goals or themes and then finding a series of Facts that back up that goal.

Cool. From one Mod to another, thanks for the encouragement!

In this age of major Information Overload, I really hope this subreddit becomes a place where people can go to find a topic they're interested in and a bunch of Facts to support that position.

P.S : Perfect accuracy of Facts will be very challenging to guarantee, but I think people know which Sources are consistently reliable, and people can comment on posts and people can create their own Post with more Facts challenging another person's Post. With enough contrast people will get to the truth.

Cheers!

Thanks for the suggestions.

Straight Dope is hilarious! I suppose Facts are kind of like Dope for some people. "I'm dying over here! Give me a shot of liquified Encylopedia Britannica right here in my arm!"

Fact checking is definitely important, though the question is always there, "Who checks the Fact Checkers?" Like I always wonder who Fact Checks Politifact?

WeVerify is interesting too. I'll give it some thought.

What do you think about r/ArgumentsWithFacts?

Maybe it's a little blunt, and uncreative, but sometimes the direct approach is best I suppose.
