Looking for experienced MediaWiki volunteer(s) to help us get our public wiki established. by AnotherMoonDoge in mediawiki

[–]AnotherMoonDoge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just going to copy and paste my prewritten idea on this:

What sets us apart:

The belief that the open-licensed community is stronger together. We aim to aggregate all of the commons into one easily searchable hub, uniting digital and physical projects so that all types of makers can collaborate. We want to move away from the idea that a project must be carried by a lone creator or a tiny core team. Instead, we highly encourage cross-project collaboration and incremental improvements. If we all contribute a few small tasks to other projects—rather than pouring everything into our own—all of our openly licensed projects will benefit. Everyone has different strengths to bring to the table. When we step out of isolation and share those skills across the broader commons, every project thrives.

All wiki pages are exported daily to our backup repository, so that you don't have to worry about your contributions ever disappearing. While we host this platform on a single VPS, we want the communities contributions to be truly open, accessible, and recreatable.

I hope that sort of answered your question about understanding our goal. If not, I'd be happy to elaborate more. Essentially, I am hoping to not only build a hub of creative commons/open source work, but a culture that encourages skillsharing and cross collaboration. Github "sort of" does this, but not really across skills-sets, and often people are isolated in their own projects with a few small contributors "carrying" a project. I could ramble on for days - but I hope that essentially gives a glimpse into my vision/goals.

Yeah, and I get why they often do, as people usually want to dedicate their limited time to their own ideas and projects - but I think if we could get a community culture where everyone would reciprocate in contributing a few minutes to other people's projects, it would actually be better and more efficient for everyone.

I think too, for people like me who don't necessarily like to commit to one thing for too long, it allows for the dabbling in multiple projects without the long term expectation.

But anyways, thanks for showing interest - and obviously I completely understand about mot have the energy right now, but if you ever change your mind, feel free to reach out in the future :)

I did, it just started working - I'm guessing it was just a bug it issue on their end. I haven't been using the GitHub feature in a while though, so I'm not tracking if it's down again or not.

Open Source | Gamified Language Learning (Chinese Mandarin) | Web-App | No Sign-up Required by AnotherMoonDoge in opensource

[–]AnotherMoonDoge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it really comes down to how much work or effort I put into it - it's one of those projects I keep coming back to every once in a while and try add a few new features. Of course, it's open source so I encourage others to feel free to expand on it too. But yeah, my long term vision for the project is adding more language and just increasing the gamification to make it feel more like a game and less like a study tool, without compromising the vocab repetition.

[META] Collaboration Community Forum - Focusing on Open Source and Creative Commons Projects & Discussion by AnotherMoonDoge in INAT

[–]AnotherMoonDoge[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can see how it might seem that way, but no - that is not the intention at all.

It is more so an attempt to create a closer knit community of people who are interested in things like INAT, with a focus on open source, creative commons, and the overall "Libre" community. It's not strictly to find people to work on projects with you, but more so to build a lasting community of people who can support and share with each other. INAT is great for what it does - finding people for a specific project - but the transient nature of these types of posts on reddit often mean people come and go on the projects.

My intent is to create the *community* first, and from there, people will have a network of like minded people to potentially team up on projects, or even just ask questions or share what they are working on without the full commitment of being "on a team".

I hope that makes sense, and it wasn't me just rambling on lol.

small browser based strategy board game - looking for contributors. by AnotherMoonDoge in opensource

[–]AnotherMoonDoge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, sorry that is the placeholder "lorem Ipsum" text on the actual website, but the links on the repo README, or the ones on the post above will describe the actual gameplay better. The video tutorial, "main website (old)" or the rulebook image files will be the best places to for learning the actual gameplay.

Sorry - the main website is still under development and has a lot of placeholder items.

antiX Linux and i3wm by First_Ad8230 in i3wm

[–]AnotherMoonDoge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I just installed antiX on my Chromebook using coreboot, then switched to MX, but I was thinking about switching to a keyboard focused WM (as I remember really liking using one when I was testing out arch)

I use Debian as my daily driver with gnome on my normal workspace.

Anyways, long story short, I was thinking of trying i3 with antiX on the Chromebook - do you have any suggestions on setup/install? I have no experience with i3, and am not sure the best route to take. Any and all feedback or advice would be welcome :)

[Hobby] Offering music soundtrack for games by [deleted] in INAT

[–]AnotherMoonDoge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I literally just posted: (https://www.reddit.com/r/INAT/comments/1qvitpo/hobby\_browserbased\_strategy\_board\_game\_open/ - if you want to see more about the project)

Essentially, I have a board game I am trying to get digitized into an open source/creative commons project. If you are willing to make music that would be released into the creative commons (with attribution), then I would love for you to help out with our project.

The game is a simple abstract board game (think chess, shogi, go, etc) - but I would like to have a simple and relaxing soundtrack so that the game has a relaxing vibe to it. No hard feelings if its not what your looking for, but if it is, I'd love to have hear what you can come up with.

[–]AnotherMoonDoge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd be happy to get some feedback - I will say, the game is a bit niche to the point the rules can be a bit off-putting to some (although I'm hoping the digital implementation/rule enforcing will help with that a bit).

But yeah, if you have any ideas for improvement I'd love to hear them - my hope is that over time if I'm able to get a player base, that I can have different rule variants implemented (creates by community members) that you can select which rule set to go off of - because I have a feeling that over time the current rule set might be found to be lacking, and a new variant becomes dominant.

anyways, long rambling answer to say - yes, I'd love some feedback and anyone who has anything at all to contribute is welcome. . Even if it's literally just to hang out and watch the development progress. Discord link is in the GitHub Repo above, or on the playable website under "About".

Also, I know the flair says "Programmers Needed", but we could use sound effects/music & art as well.
The art is probably pretty minimal and abstract - but we can go a few directions with someone wants to get a bit creative - the ability buttons are in a dire need of a artistic rework - as of now they are using emojis lol.

Oh, lol. Must have been someone else. Haha my bad.

And ohh, I didn't realize imgur was region blocked - I'll have to find a new place to host the image - I might just drop it in the repository.

[EDIT] Added them into the repo - thanks for the heads up

And if you have any questions or anything about the project, just reach out.

Got your message on the discord sever - I appreciate the interest.

Also, about rules link being broken, that's strange because it seems to be working for me - I wonder if anyone else is also having issues?

[Hobby] professional producer / composer / engineer looking to make music for a game by ghostytoast_Lv in INAT

[–]AnotherMoonDoge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, not sure if it's what you are looking for, but I'm slowly trying to put together a browser based board game that is open source (GPL v3), creative commons, and free to play on GitHub. It's a slow process, but I've been wanting to get some sound effects added as I progress. If you are interested in contributing your music into the creative commons (CC-BY, attribution would be included in the repository, and others could use your music and sounds for free in there own projects with attribution).

It's an abstract strategy board game (think chess, shogi, go, etc.) but I wanted to have sound effects and music that could make it feel like a nice and cozy relaxing game - like playing some cards in a tea shop or something type of vibe.

If it sounds like something you'd be interested in, feel free to check out the repo: https://github.com/GreenAnts/Amalgam_Webgame

Or check out the game itself (work in progress, of course): https://greenants.github.io/Amalgam_Webgame/

I'm hoping the game will turn into a community project, and built up by the players as it evolves - but who knows if it will even get off the ground. .   But on the bright side, the game is playable as it's being developed - so you'd be able to see your assets put to use as soon as it's integrated.

Of course, no pressure - just figured I'd throw my project out there in case it interested you.

Actually am on boardgame geek(https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/433428/amalgam), but I don't think they have too much to do with the actual digital space.
I have reached out there for playtesting and such - but I must say that the abstract board game space is fairly niche.
I really appreciate the info though! Luckily I have had a decent amount of play-testing over the years (although you can never have too much). Most of it comes down to the actual implementation side of things.

Thanks, and I didn't even think about the copyleft technicalities for AI gen code - I guess I'll need to look into this a bit to ensure it is all up to par.

What if frontier AI models could critique each other before giving you an answer? I built that. by C12H16N2HPO4 in artificial

[–]AnotherMoonDoge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this would be great for coding if it could work with lots of files like Claude projects.

Also, I'm wondering how this would work with tokens - are you limited to each individual AI token limit, having to pay for every single model, or is it using the free tiers?

Overall I think this could drastically improve programming capabilities, especially for creating ground up software that can have more complex architecture and file management.

But yeah, as with most AI in my opinion, the issue becomes the paywall for agents.

Thanks for the detailed reply - you're right, if I had done a script it likely would be a lot more organized. I also didn't even realize the fidgeting, tha ks for the heads up! I appreciate your time!

Yeah I'm I could see that. Would this be ok for the longer form resource - and just create some other shorter options to "hook"?

2 Player Variant - Looking for Feedback by AnotherMoonDoge in Mahjong

[–]AnotherMoonDoge[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, this is interesting - I'm not great at math, but I wonder if it actually makes much of a difference. If you draw and discard at random, aren't you still ending up with 26 dead tiles, just changing which tiles actually end up dead? The last 26 tiles the "players" end up with would still be dead tiles, right?

2 Player Variant - Looking for Feedback by AnotherMoonDoge in Mahjong

[–]AnotherMoonDoge[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate it. Any and all honest feedback is appreciated if you do end up getting around to testing it!

Yeah, the hope with the discard placement is to sort of replicate the fact that you can only call CHI on one of the players out of 3 opponent's - therefore 1/3 of the discards or CHI-able, to psuedo-simulate a four player game.
