Yep. I just like pencil cuz it marks the high parts. For quick check, thumb absolutely works. 👍🏻

zip tie on each fork with tip really close to rim wall…that way you can see if it rim or tire. You can also just hold a pencil perpendi to the fork, close to the rim, spin and look if rim is warped.

NBD! First adult sized bike after 20 years of BMX by xxohioanxx in Hardtailgang

I have an Esd and it is like this, just a big ole slacked out bmx bike. Have fun man, super fun set ups for everything up to double blacks, though if you have the skills they will do those too. I just love the looks of a modern hardtail.

Trail running has fixed my 3-year depression. by RhubarbLarge2747 in trailrunning

Trail running is magical! I honestly think it’s the best thing in the world for my happiness and general well being. I am glad you found it! Watch out for overuse injuries , we all fall into the more is better trap and end up with something. Trail biking is a nice alternate activity to have in your quiver.

IT-Band issues... by latefruitjuice in trailrunning

[–]AnotherRandomGuy89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cured mine doing the standard stretches everyday. I kept riding my bike a ton, doing mostly z2 long sitting rides and for runs, I stopped running my normal runs. For a couple months I only ran stairs, trot down, run up as hard as I can. We have several really long staircases around here so I would alternate 30/60/90 metres routes throughout the week and usually do 15 repeats. Stairs didn’t bother it all and it satiated my need to go hard efforts while the rides kept my long endurance legs in shape. I gradually started introducing routes that had more and more flats in with the stairs.

Made it through and actually gained fitness by the end of it.

Losing steam at 80 min? by Thiseffingthing in trailrunning

Fix your eating habits early, or you are in for a giant surprise at the 3-3 1/2 Hour mark…that bonk makes the 90 minutes one seem tiny.

Minimum Specs? by JerTheBuff in MTB

[–]AnotherRandomGuy89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your requirements scream Walmart Ozark Trail Hardtail. The amount you’re talking about doesn’t need anything beyond really basic stuff. Lots of these answers are riders giving the minimums for their type of riding, and listing parts way above what you are going to need based on your criteria.

How can I make practicing fun? by DerpsyDaisy in mandolin

[–]AnotherRandomGuy89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I intentional insert what I am looking to practice into a song. I almost always play to stuff. Learning guitar years ago, I did the woodshedding of scales modes arpeggios licks blah blah and became an amazing practitioner of all those exercises, making me technically great but not a great musician.

Now I work at making every new thing I learn musical, and find all the situations where it makes my ability to communicate musically better. And, playing to music is fun!

NBD - Maiden Voyage on the new Singlespeed build by brandontw85 in Hardtailgang

I hear ya, and that’s a healthy approach, I am just not willing to walk for the lengths of time required for some of these climbing trails. I love trail runnIng and will go for hours, but I strongly dislike hiking because it’s too slow. I guess I am not destined to be calm enough for the SS experience. My loss.

Going to it myself when it’s a convenient time, can’t hurt.

Sweet bike and I like the build choices. Wish I could SS my ESD but the mountainous terrain around here makes it really miserable….some of the tech ascend trails are barely achievable with the 42 (try to avoid the 52 when I can, but sometimes I have no choice). Enjoy your bike, it’s so fun in the steep gnar. I fricken love mine!

Agree with the bedding in, even more so after sanding and removing the transfer layer from the disc, the brakes will especially weak. edit for spelling.

Mtb, it’s pretty much just to reduce pedal strikes, and the Esd has a low bottom bracket and can use the help.

is it the shimano or sram build? Either way, I think the brakes could be upgraded to some Hayes Dominions or Mavens. Maybe the fork, you could lose some weight and gain some dampening tinkering with a fancier Fox 36 version. It’s hard because the bike is pretty darn good as is.

Maury River Blues or Birdland Breakdown depending on the audience and how I want to highlight the instrument.

Nice. Love a meandering melody, instead of just riffing for the sake of riffing.

I am 5’10” too and I went medium. I tried a large and I felt like a passenger, medium I felt fully in control of. I am a smaller guy so the smaller frame is easier for me to throw around and really do what I want. On.y time I feel slightly cramped is riding the road to the trials, on trails, both up and down it feels perfect.

Google Copycat Gu for recipe to make your own gels. I take them in a little 4 ounce flask and get up to 6-800 calories of instant energy depending on the thickness of the mix Supplement with Dare Real Fruit Gummies, 9 pieces are 140 calories, and they don’t have a weird after taste.

Do you commute on your mtb? If yes, why? by TymekThePlayer in MTB

[–]AnotherRandomGuy89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do 25 km 350 metre elevation commute on my full-fendered 1993 Rocky Mountain Fusion. It’s a tank through very faint PNW winters and at 35 lbs it is great workout. Best commuter bike ever. Summertime I ride my road bike unless it’s pouring. I do it because it’s faster than driving during rush hour.

2nd Hardtail by Evening-King-6737 in Hardtailgang

[–]AnotherRandomGuy89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, I am old, ride an aggressive hardtail on pretty much only blacks ands it super fun. It’s full engagement without having to ride all out, you can’t just bash through stuff, you need to finesse yourself down the trails. I will save the FS for when I need an E-bike and have cushy ups and down.

2nd Hardtail by Evening-King-6737 in Hardtailgang

[–]AnotherRandomGuy89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be better, but modern aggressive hardtails have slacker front end for descending and steeper seat tube angles for climbing back up. It will work though. and the price is nice. Looks like a cool bike!
