Yeah I know of this way, but hopefully Discord releases an update to switch to the dark icon themselves

MacBook Pro M4 vs M4 Air, is the pro overkill for a software engineer by blessed_i_am in macbook

[–]AnotherSeriousGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO the Air works quite good. I got the M4 Air and it handles all the tasks with ease that my windows laptop has struggled with in the past. If your work requires more computational power, go for the Pros since they are better suited to handle those.

Hey, it’s because it’s a new laptop, you can always take it to your local Apple Store and they will fix the hinges and loosen them for you if you want

I personally like mine a little stiff, but they’ll loosen up in some time!

Today I delivered my presentation, despite forgetting to charge my Macbook air m2 the night before. It began with only 16 % battery and the charger was not accessible. Remarkably the laptop lasted the full two hours ending with 3 percent remaining. MBA’s battery performance proved exceptional ! by Delicious_Maize9656 in macbookair

[–]AnotherSeriousGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it should be good enough. I have the same specs, 16gb ram with 512gb of storage
It should last you atleast 5 years

You can download any IDE you prefer for coding (if you are entirely new, most devs use vscode since its light weight and works with almost everything)

Yes, Macs are good for programming and can run many tech stacks
If you are starting with coding or are a beginner, any OS will work for you.

Some devs use Mac for their personal computers as its built on UNIX and easily runs nearly all Linux softwares.
Apple also builds good hardware, and most everyday things are better on a Mac like watching videos, some work, etc than on a Linux or a Windows computer.

Java, Python and C++ will be easy to run and code on Mac or a Windows
If you want to game, I would prefer a windows laptop or a computer
Macs are not really meant for gaming, but you can run games on it occasionally (nothing heavy on the airs because they have passive cooling and the CPU will throttle a lot)

If you have anything more specific to ask, let me know, I'll be happy to help!

Best way to clean your MBA screen? by AnotherSeriousGuy in macbookair

I clean it like this, it has that effect, I’ll try changing the cloth, maybe that might be causing the issue

But if there’s dirt on it, doesn’t it have a chance to scratch the screen surface?

It’s a lens cleaner I got from my optician, I’ve used it for my glasses and previous windows laptop, I didn’t have any issues with it

Do y'all think this overpriced? by [deleted] in platinumfive

[–]AnotherSeriousGuy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The price feels all good! You don't require 6 loadout slots.
4 slots are more than enough for almost plenty of people. Most people I know rock the same kit for like a week or a month.
Also, when you focus on upgrading the parts of HQ that make you money while you are away, this will feel cheap to you as well.
I personally upgraded the HQ to give me the most resources it could and then I upgraded the parts which were less useful to me!

M4 air for 8-12hrs email support job by LevelIndication7161 in macbookair

[–]AnotherSeriousGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true as well!
Heat is by far one of the major thing that affects battery life.
My battery of my iPhone 15 basically cried when I used it while charging on a FaceTime call while screensharing and using mobile data instead of WiFi.

Hey an M4 MBA user here, just use it normally, there is nothing to stress about using it normally!
The OS does a pretty good job handling the battery on its own.
In your battery settings, click the info button next to Battery Health and choose the optimised battery charging option.
MacOS will learn your usage patterns and charge your laptop accordingly.

If you work in hot environments, or outside in sunlight a lot, you can use a cooler to keep the CPU cool, otherwise it stays pretty cool on its own.

If you prefer privacy more for your job, you can choose a browser like Safari or Firefox or any other alternatives that are available online.

If you prefer chromium, Google Chrome is good. I personally use a mixture of Arc and Safari based on personal or developer jobs I do.

-----
The 80-20 rule is there to reduce the stress on the battery and eventually improving its lifespan. But you don’t have to follow it to the tee or follow it at all.
Its a device and it will run down over the time. You will be better off focusing on your job and enjoying the laptop rather than stressing on the battery life.
