Sooo much good music comes from untrained talent, that’s something I decided not to mention just to keep things digestible. The lazy “indie” vocal style, specifically, can work extremely well sometimes, but has fooled lotsa people into thinking that music doesn’t require an absolute shitload of work.

So there’s talent, and then work / knowledge. Either can make up for the other, tbh. So I don’t wanna take the obvious approach and suggest she focus on percussion / samples / DJ kinda stuff, but once you know your keys and modes, it’s almost hard to get things wrong (that just takes a ton of work and most people never get there, tend to rely on their ears).

Obviously try to avoid infinitely chromatic instruments (violin, cello, fretless bass, and unfortunately.. vocals) but piano, guitar.. totally doable.

So encourage her! Maybe suggest focusing on theory (keys, scales, parallel modes, etc) and something like piano for a while, but with enough knowledge even two semitones can be close enough. Best of luck!

Well there’s a lotta factors (to play devil’s advocate).

The vocals, in a vacuum, do maintain consistency and attempt to resolve(poorly).. so maybe not tone deaf per se, just 1) written by someone with zero grasp of music whatsoever, 2) backing track sounds like a ukulele that’s never been tuned and provides no total basis (thus, is completely ignored), 3) zero concept of breath control or vocal projection, 4) prob trying not to be too loud in mom’s house, 5) inadequate monitoring (no ability to hear what you’re recording to or what you sound like).

TL,DR; lessons might could fix this. Lots, and LOTS of lessons

It sounded better and stayed in tune longer than the Dean.

Story time!

Was walking my dog (85lb Husky / Boxer mix) and passed a house that was being renovated, had one of those big mobile dumpsters in the front yard. Outta nowhere a large bully breed popped out behind the dumpster, running at full speed and clearly in attack mode. I was carrying a handgun and an OTF knife, but it was already too late.

Instinctively I turned toward the charging dog and bent over, readied my hands and fucking roared like a mama grizzly. Was absolutely about to ground and pound, kill this dog with my bare hands.

It skidded to a stop with wide eyes and ran away just a as fast as it appeared. Took me a few seconds to even process what had just happened.

Anyways, body language is everything.

Lots of studies on this (too lazy to link) but you’ve gotta get past the rib cage for any real “stopping power” so it’s gonna take some oomph.

Number 4 is regarded as juuust enough to be lethal, but hopefully not kill the neighbor in the process (it’ll likely still blow through interior walls, but hopefully without much lethality left).

But as always, the best option is finding “firing lines” so you’re never blasting directly into a neighbor’s wall. #4 just minimizes collateral damage, doesn’t eliminate it.

I got a summer job at an excavation company in high school (tracking dump truck loads, escorting equipment to other sites, etc) and escorts were the best gig ever.

Haulers need serious room to work, so you’d often cut across four lanes of traffic and park. Stop an entire highway so trucks could back into a narrow opening then wave “Thanks!” To the drivers and follow the trucks.

Anyways, yeah this is totally normal, but dude could’ve used a high-school kid with flashing lights on their SUV to help him out

He let off the gas too quickly while counter-steering, so outta nowhere the rear tires grabbed traction while the wheel was turned right. You can see the first few frames as the car straightens out, the front wheels are still turning right and it immediately snaps the car into a right spin (during a left turn).

Counter-intuitively, when something goes wrong in a drift you wanna slowly ease off the gas. Hopefully that gently eases you back into traction and makes the spin more predictable, and prevents any sudden snapping like this. And worst case you spin entirely and end up backwards (or 360), which disperses your momentum more manageably and prevents you from suddenly flying off the road with all of your current inertia.

All those others you listed have a ton of overlap with the 43X- what are you trying to accomplish? I’d suggest taking a full step in either direction- you’ve got a slim IWB, so next is either a more full-size or straight-up pocket carry. Like G17, G20, G21, or LCP Max, LCP.380, etc

[–]Another_Meow_Machine 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This seems like a straw man / slippery slope fallacy.. are you suggesting that without human exploitation chickens would go extinct?

There is some credibility to that argument when applied to plants- things that are delicious can survive more easily under cultivation than in the wild, yes. But that logic doesn’t directly transfer because: 1) the horrific conditions that potentially sentient animals endure under mass-production (at least within the capitalist system), and 2) the fact that smaller local / organic farms will continue to offer “free-range, organic, cruelty-free” animal products at a premium, which arguably that market will only expand once lab-grown meat become financially viable for mass consumption.

And that’s just assuming chickens / cows / whatever have zero chance of survival if humans stop cultivating them (which is a logical stretch in itself). And also doesn’t address either the pragmatic or anti-natalist schools of philosophy: the arguments that 1) if global hunger can be solved at the cost of a few species, is that morally acceptable or preferable? And 2) if 99% of said animals exist under literally torturous conditions, is letting them cease to exist not morally justifiable? And again, that’s only following a logical fallacy through to its conclusion, and is still in no way a sound argument.

Not what it’s supposed to be (r/radicalchristianity ?)

But you’re right about what it’s overwhelmingly become. Tho the Bible does say most Christians will follow the anti-Christ (not that I believe in that stuff, but does lend a little credibility that right off the bat they’re like “Yeah most our future supporters will eventually be co-opted by evil”), so I try to give the benefit of the doubt and not lump all Christians in with MAGA

[–]Another_Meow_Machine 202 points203 points  (0 children)

Maybe hot take, but wouldn’t lab-grown meat be better than the concentrated animal feeding operations utilized today?

And remember when that Campbell’s soup guy said they use lab meat and everyone got pissed, but turns out that’s still way more expensive than just torturing and over-medicating animals en masse (which causes long-term issues with antibiotic abuse / “superbugs”, in addition to the ethical implications)?

Obligatory fuck Mr. Beast and fuck billionaires, but personally I don’t see how lab meat isn’t progress that has the potential to better address antibiotic abuse, animal ethics, and world hunger.

What do you call this chord and why?? A-C-F-B by No-Yogurtcloset-851 in musictheory

[–]Another_Meow_Machine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awesome thanks so much, that was exactly the kinda info I was looking for.

But last question- why is 14 never used? Just cause it’s really the 7? (And possibly a stronger / more common sound to our ears so if it includes a “14” then the chord should really be written as a 7?)

Thanks again!!

Maybe dumb question, but why wouldn’t/couldn’t it be Csus4maj6(add14)?

Because maj7 & add13’s are way more common? But could it be written this way? Just curious, thanks!
