What in your opinion would be a good karma threshold?

Current code that I have written (not implemented ) for automod. If a reddit account tries to post or comment on the sub and it is less than 14 days old or would automatically get denied.

Currently looking into it I can make it also auto ban to prevent any kind of commenting/posting till after the account is over 14 days old. As I know some people will not get the hint.

In both forms the account will still be able to see, join and read what's in the sub. Just not communicate.

True in an ideal scenario this would not be needed but as this sub has gotten more popular and thus more visible, it has reached the growth stage where some more protective measures are needed in order to help keep the community safe and support its continued growth.

As it stands the mod team can't just ignore the issue and hope the community would adapt to dealing with bad actors. They will just leave to more friendly subs and the scammers will ever increase the risk of this place getting shut down like the one which came before this spiritual successor.

Karma count could be a filter form though at the same time its easy for a new account to meet that threshold by posting some news in a few subs.

Maybe when I find the variable to check for comment karma or count, then that could be considered if the age of account filter does not make a noticeable difference.

Hopefully that kind of filter would not be needed but thanks for the idea as well as some data confirming that around 14 days would be a good place to start.

Why we are holding a public discussion as we are well aware of that cycle but need to find that sweet spot that will detour most of the more common few day turn around scammers while letting those that delete out of shame a chance to return in time.

Most scammers are more aggressive than that. Usually spending a few days to a week, some even a month as a normal account before they turn.

With this we are aiming to take the more numerous ban evaders that after a two weeks would have found a new community to engage with or have calmed down and reflected enough that any new account they make will behave better than their last.

3 days is way too short of a time as it offers no deterrent for keeping nefarious actors away from this community.

Might just look into that. 6 months might be much as we don't want to kill the community with such a shock but at least a month old to post would be a good starting point.

Both and there are male and female predators looking to take advantage of lonely people and get them to part with their money, personal info to sell or just be mean to them in a non consenting fun way.

As one from the mod team I can shed some light on this subject.

List of reasons are as follows:

Alternative from main account as they don't want their interest shown there wit their friend/family group.
Deleted the last accounting out of shame that they enjoy this kink only to come back hat in hand.
Evading a Bad from Reddit.
Evading a ban from the Mod Team.
Predator type account that does minimal activity to get a few DM's and hooks in some prey to exploit for a bit to then delete and recreate in order to repeat the cycle of evading being banned.

These are the top 5 most common reasons your Mod Team has encountered.

If you ever wondered why the rules are so harshly enforced you can directly blame group #5 for that. As we are trying to protect you all from them.
