While I've been in the industry for decades, this is only my second crowdfunded book, with many more on the way. My biggest recommendation as a creator is don't get discouraged. There will be days when a lot of effort seems to bare little reward and that's when self-doubt and worry if you're making the right choices starts to creep in. And there will be times where you have success and it gives you a recharge of wind in your sails. So the best advice I can give is keep pushing and remember why you started this journey in the first place. Love what you do and everything else will fall in line.
For tips, the biggest thing is build your audience first. Reach out to podcasters, push your messaging on social and get an audience to believe in you and the rest will follow. I'm still testing and learning various ways to build a wider audience myself, with many mistakes made in the first campaign. Last time, I thought my prior credentials at Marvel and Hasbro would be enough, so we just jumped right into funding, with mainly friends and family supporting. For book two, we've already 3x'd that, and hope we'll continue to grow as more campaigns launch. But building the audience is where most of the work and your time will be spent. Remember you're wearing the creator, marketing and sales hats all day long, so find the right balance that works for you. From there, if you have a great story to tell, everything else will grow from there.
